writing A Hero (poem)

Inspired by this by TwilightCircuits, I decided to write about what heroism is.

"A Hero"

A hero need not be pure of heart

Or stronger than a bear.
He need not purge his very soul
Of fear, contempt, despair.

He doesn't need to be the light
To battle 'gainst the dark.
He need not be a chosen one
Or brag like Tony Stark.

A brave man doesn't run from fear,
He defeats it and moves on
'Cause how can a man fight like a wolf,
If inside he's just a fawn?

A hero does not stay in light,
He carries it beyond,
Becomes a light out in the dark;
To night, he is the dawn.

A brave man knows what he believes,
That hope and love are true,
And brings this light to those in the dark,
To bring 'bout life anew.

He fights for truth and mercy,
So love can ever spread.
He fights no matter what the odds,
Even if it ends with a hero dead.

This is beautiful. It made me laugh, the part about bragging like Tony Stark. :P LOL. This is really good. How long did it take for you to write it? It sounds like it was really well thought out. Great job. :D

Thanks! It probably took me about 15 minutes, but I had been writing a lot so I was already in poetry mode when I started. The hardest part was rhyming with dark, so I ended up with the funny little Tony Stark line.  :P

That might actually make a really good song If given to someone who knows what they're doing. ie, not me.

Im sure someone could use this though.

I have to agree with everyone on this. I love how the poem was trying to tell a truth most folks don't understand or want to believe. Not all heroes are pure because just like regular folks heroes aren't perfect.

I also got the "never give up" feeling while I was reading through this poem.

I've written songs before and I play three instruments so making it a song wouldn't be a problem, but I lack the vocal skill or recording equipment to ever perform it or share it, unfortunately.

That poem was beautiful. :(  It really reminds me of someone fighting against the odds, no matter what the cost.

Like the Avengers.

Thanks! I was going for that sort of vibe.

Thank you, Data Void! Your opinion means a lot. :) That is exactly the message I was going for.

I also play a bunch of instruments! What do you play?

I play Viola, Violin, Cello, Piano, Guitar, and Drums.

The ting i find about singing is either you can or you cant with instruments all it takes is dedication an practice!

I agree about singing although, vocal training can really improve one's singing voice. A couple of my friends are dedicated musicians, and they all improved their singing immensely after getting lessons.

I play trumpet, guitar, and piano well. I also can play a recorder and the harmonica a little, and I know some about playing drums because my best friend (a drummer) is obsessed with drums. I've always wanted to play the violin, but my concert band as a kid didn't allow string instruments for some reason, so I went with trumpet instead. It comes in handy when playing jazz and ska though.
