Zygen 6,066 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 Well yeah pretty much, it is one of the main reasons, I have others but the reason Fluttershy is my favorite pony mainly is because I'm shy and shes shy to. It is pretty natural for people to like characters they relate to. So it certainly isn't weird. However it of course isn't always true. Anyways, yeah me and Fluttershy have shyness in common, I mean thats mostly it, but yeah. . Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Sonata18 105 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 I like Vinyl and Octavia. I used to be in the school band (played the trumpet). Now I love club music and have two subwoofers in the trunk of my car. Guess that matches up a little, lol.
GuillermoGage 246 January 8, 2013 Author Share January 8, 2013 I'm democrat, don't judge me XD I like Fluttershy, most likely because she's timid and apologetic but cute about the way she goes about it. Of course, I'm still reasonably new to MLP, so there'll probably be more facets in her personality for me to discover later on that might not be quite so endearing XD Twi comes a close second though, tied with Rarity, in the 'fave stakes'. Muslim ? How so ? I'm not questioning the validity of your post, just I'm curious as to your reasoning Unless, of course, it's one of those 'gut feelings' that none of us can explain ^-^ At least you are responding to my question. The question is not, "is your personality like that of your fave pony", it is, "Are certain personal beliefs associated with ponies even without it being a part of that pony itself?" The question is not, "is your personality like that of your fave pony", it is, "Are certain personal beliefs associated with ponies even without it being a part of that pony itself?" Ah, my bad. I saw the link for this thread as 'Is your favourite pony a sign of your personal...' and assumed it to be 'personality' Well, in that case, I sadly would have to say that due to my current lack of greater knowledge of the characters, I wouldn't be able to tell what sort of 'beliefs' one pony has that I could relate to, I'm afraid I'm still curious as to how you liken Fluttershy as a Muslim ^-^

Ummmmm... I tend to vote liberal and I like rap/pop music (don't like country). I don't attend church. I do love hunting and fishing and shopping at Bass Pro. I don't think that has anything to do with vinyl/octavia. I like when Big Mac is featured though. For the mane 6, I really like them all about the same amount... maybe I like Fluttershy slightly more than the others. Mutemutt 773 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 I'm not really sure how to answer this question. I'm curious as to why rarity = "conservative" and fluttershy = democrat. How did you come up with these connections? My favorite is Applejack, but what kind of personal/political beliefs does that suggest? I'm not trying to be rude or anything; I'm just trying to understand so that I can give a good answer.

Like all the Sonic the Hedgehog kiddies on deviantART wanting to remind you, "I believe in Jesus Christ my savior" and Sonic characters praying. Or how people that are into the zombie craze have a sort of right-wing vibe to them. I know there are other things with associations like this. Abstract 832 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 (edited) My mane 6 favorite is Fluttershy, and I am politically pretty liberal. Without having any real evidence of course, I think she fits into this mindset fairly well. I think it goes without saying, that Fluttershy would be an environmentalist in our world, as are many liberals. I believe that she would definitely be on the side of equal rights for all factions and minorities, and be a big proponent of welfare-type programs, for those who cannot help themselves. I would also bet that she would find freedom of (or from) religion quite to her taste as well. (Again, no real evidence to back any of this up, but it seems to all fit her pretty well.) On the other hand, for the issue of pro-life vs. pro-choice, I think she would probably deviate on this, and be of the pro-life mindset, which is generally not the position of many liberals. But it's a good thing, really. I myself am very much pro-choice, but to be 100% of any political mindset is, more often than not, a sign of blind following and not using one's own head to make decisions. Fluttershy shows here that she is more than capable of doing so, and that makes her a real human being (or...pony. Whatever, you know what I mean. ) As for personal beliefs, she does match me in that she has (what I believe to be, anyway) very strong beliefs and opinions, but she does not make it a point for everyone to know her beliefs. Both of us fail ourselves here every so often, but not to a point of, say, Rainbow Dash who couldn't keep her mouth shut if her life depended on it. (I kid, I kid. ) Fluttershy believes in, well, being a bit of a doormat. This isn't a positive quality, but nevertheless, one we do both share. I don't know her stance on the matter per se, but I personally would rather be stabbed in the back again and again, then to mistrust someone. It's just our nature, I suppose. But what makes me damn proud to be like Fluttershy in personal beliefs, is the belief that animals should have the same rights and treatment as ourselves. I love that she makes near to no differentiation between her fellow ponies, and her beloved animals. To her, they are of equal status and are both deserving of the same kind of love and treatment. To me, that says far more about her than any other other quality she could have, and truly defines the kind of person (pony) she is; the best kind. D...did I do it right? It is not about associating with similarities, it is about noticing if an arbitrary connection exists among fans of a character. It seems like there are more people who are open about preferring Princess Luna than there are ones who will say they prefer Celestia.

I think it all has to do with how we are raised - bearing that our external environment and our own individual personality shape us. Our perceptions are easily swayed by what we feel or what we think support our own, and since our perceptions are ever changing through growth, I feel it's an all in the moment kind of thing. A majority of us like Luna because she has a story and that we may relate to the incidents that followed her whereas Celestia did not or was not shown a negative side which a number of fanfics did or tried showing. The human element I suppose, is what we are looking after. Something along the lines of pain and happiness. Sam makes a good point I shalt endeavour to do so in future. Hmm, I wouldn't say ALL Flutters fans are democratic, based purely on my own beliefs Well my girlfriend IS Muslim, but she doesn't particularly act like fluttershy, apart from being quite shy. I suppose to truly answer this, you'd have to collate a few choice phrases and comlare them to a Muslims beliefs. The more I think about it, the more I can see where you're coming from, though. Well, I live in Wales but am in fact english (sorry, a pet hate of mine). I said I was a democrat, not that I voted Democrat. To be honest, I don't particularly agree with the stances of either Labour nor Conservative, but that doesn't mean I can't take an interest in politics overseas. That said, my views on the Democrats are likely naive and/or outdated - I am basing, and have based, my support on them from the meaning of the word democratic, I prefer to put things to a vote and accept majority, hopefully pleasing thd most amount of people. However, someone did once say to me that democracy was two wolves and a lamb voting on who to eat, which I quite like. Like mentioned before these opinions are based on limited knowledge, but I'd be delighted to be enlightened
Hansel 1,512 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 (edited) Ugh.... Yeah, I don't wanna sound crabby and possessive of this thread that I created How many Fluttershy favers here are liberal? Are American Rainbow Dash fans into gung-ho patriotism? I kind of interpret Fluttershy as being a Muslim. I personally can't really see Fluttershy as a Muslim. Like most other Abrahamic religions, Islam is an assertive religion with strict rules and guide lines, which doesn't fit too well with Fluttershy's personality. I honestly can't see any of the ponies fitting into any real world religions... seems kind of absurd to me, but if I had to choose, I'd say Fluttershy would go for something similar to one of my friends, a mixture of a few northern European Pagan religions, primarily Wicca. It's pretty free spirited and shares an affinity with nature and animals, without a great deal of pressure that most organised religions tend to have. It's also a pretty warm and kind philosophy and fits her element rather nicely. Edited January 8, 2013 by Hansel Pancakes taste like well seasoned DVD cases. Lightning Dasher 149 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 I'm sure that like most other bronies, I can see a bit of myself in each of the Mane6 in one way or the other... But I can relate to Applejack and Rainbow Dash the most. Honesty and Loyalty are my best qualities when it comes to my friends. Applejack - Like AJ, I think being honest with yourself and others is one of the most important qualities. Everything about her personality just makes her awesome. She's hard working and steadfast in her beliefs. My favourite AJ moment has got to be her first letter to Celestia. "Dear Princess Celestia, I wanted to share my thoughts with you. Ahem.... I didn't learn anything, I was right all along." She puts her family and friends first and goes out of her way to help where she can. Rainbow Dash - Both AJ and RD are athletic and loyal to their friends. When it comes down to sports and competing though, I lean more towards the "Being Awesome" part. You've got to have that RD attitude when diving into something. Put it all on the table and go full out. I love to show off at things i'm good at and enjoy show boating. Though AJ wins in the sportsmanship department. Dash really stood out in the Wonderbolts Academy, showing that she's still a team player though. Just because you're good at something, it doesn't mean you got to step on others like Lightning Dust. With that being said, Fall Weather Friends has got to be one of my favourite episodes of them all because of these two. Ponies make it impossible to sleep. "My stomach was making the rumblings, that only hands would satisfy."
Cowl 128 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 (edited) The problem with forming a correlation is that it will be skewed towards the best (designed pony) and away from the ponies with worse design/less characterization. If all ponies where created equal. Then you actually would be able to draw conclusions from the correlation, since most people will pick ponies that are similar to themselves or who they want to be. However, this isn't really the case. I imagine that rainbow would probably be over represented while fluttershy (probably) would be underrepresented (trying to incorporate fannon is too complicated for me). PS-> my favorite is Twilight, which is just like my personality. Though I also think that RD is awesome, but also has no relation to my personality. Edited January 8, 2013 by Cowl And to all things comes an end. We are no more than pages in a book. Turn the page, and thousands die. And for what? For the greed of two powerful leaders. Turn the page and floods, earthquakes and volcanoes are destroying the world. It is a time for acts of despair and of bravery as well. Another turn of the page and countless refugees flee. Is this the end of the story? No. There are countless pages to turn. And to all things comes a beginning!
Loriem 639 January 8, 2013 Share January 8, 2013 My political beliefs? I am a Libertarian, I think Marijuana should be legalized and regulated like alcohol, we should balance the budget, cut spending, reform the tax system to a national consumption tax, and the only regulations on business should be privacy, safety and information. Now, I don't see any of the characters in the show sharing my beliefs, but I do share judgment more with Twilight and Pinkie.
