(OOC: Did we ever say what the name of the Equestrian port city was?)

Snowy somberly stared out at the sea from the deck of the Arbitrator. The storm had been far more dangerous than Snowy had expected. Lightning had struck one of the masts, effectively neutralizing any speed advantage the Arbitrator had over any Pirate ships. The strength of the winds had made flight all but impossible for everypony on board, which resulted in the death of many of the ponies that had fallen overboard. As soon as the storm had cleared up, Snowy had ordered for the Arbitrator to return to the nearest Equestrian port for repairs.

"Celestia, this is just grim." Rich walked up to his captain. "Here's the full damage report, nothing that can't be fixed. As for the.." He sighed. "casualties, I guess we should be thankful it wasn't worse. Morale's at a record low, this isn't what they imagined when thought they might die in the line of duty."

"Well if you care for my opinion, in which we all know you do not, I would say to raise morale.... use me. A non-Equestrian just DYING to serve Celestia, so they should be grateful to have the birthright to. Sound good?" Guin asked, everypony who knew her (only RPs, not NPCs) knew she loathed anypony who thought they could control her. But she'll put on the little show dog act if it meant she could stay on board.

To Cascade's surprise, the mare smiled radiantly, and pulled her into a tight hug. "Oh, how I've missed you," she said. Cascade's mind was abuzz, confused. She could see that her mother's wings were just like hers, and everypony else's on the island. Evidently the confusion was still showing on her face when her mother released her from the hug, because she began talking. "I'm so sorry I didn't get to watch you grow up, Cascade. I'm so sorry I never knew you. I had to return here. I didn't have a choice."

"What... What do you mean?"

"If I had stayed, I would have died." A tear ran down Mother's face. "We aren't like ordinary ponies... And neither are you." Cascade tilted her head, and said, "I know I'm different than-" "Oh, honey, you have no idea just how different you are from other ponies.  Just how special you are. It's no coincidence you're drawn to the water, like no other pony is." Cascade's eyes were wide at this point, as she stared at her mother. With a prideful flutter of her flipper-wings, Mother said, "Cascade... You're a Naiad."

Cascade looked puzzled. "A... A what?"

"A Naiad. A water nymph. A free spirit of the water." Mother reached into the pool she had so recently vacated, and pulled out an... an orb of water... She just scooped an orb of water out of the water. Cascade had to blink several times, and rub her eyes, to make sure they weren't playing tricks on her. "There's a reason you've always preferred the water, Cassie."

Cascade flinched. Nopony ever called her that. Nopony but her father... And she hadn't seen him in many years...

Her mother smiled softly. "Oh, Cassie, you have so much potential. We could teach you so, so much. It's time to embrace your true identity, as a Naiad, and learn who you really are." She tossed the water orb at Cascade, and Cascade reflexively lifted a hoof to keep it from splashing her in the face, but was surprised when it bounced off of her arm and fell to the ground, where the water was released, and gushed over Cascade's hooves.

"Try catching it this time." Cascade's mother pulled another orb out of the pool, and tossed it lightly at her daughter, who caught it. Cascade's eyes were reflected, wide, in the glistening surface of the water orb...

((Naiads can live endlessly as long as they're not separated from water, which binds them to life. They can spend time out of the water, but will age normally until they submerge into the water, at which point they will be rejuvenated. If a naiad takes serious injury, they can descend into the water, and after a short amount of time their wounds will heal. Even better, naiads can manipulate water, as evidenced by the orb, and when their skills are honed, they are truly a force to be reckoned with. They can create ice as well, but generally prefer not to. They can also learn to communicate with undersea life, but again, that takes time to learn. They can convert their body into water molecules if they choose to, and seemingly dissolve once they enter the water. Possibly more, but I'll keep Cascade's naiad skills limited at the moment, since she's A, the youngest naiad to ever exist, not to mention she only just discovered how she was one, and B, for the sake of balance in the RP.))

((Feel free to have a ship approach the Naiad Island now, if you wish. It's northeast of Casaflanka, and marks the boundary point between the Windigo Sea and the Antlertic Ocean.))

"You're right." Slicer stood up and faced the massive storm cloud's which had just passed over.

A crew mate stepped over to Slicer. "But Captain...We were lucky enough to-" He was cut off as Slicer placed his katana at the Crew member's throat."We're. finding. Cascade." He growled, Staring into the crew member's eyes.

He then put his katana back in its sheath and walked up to the helm. He spun it around, The whole ship shook as it turned back towards the storm.

It was a long day for Cascade. She spent most of it training with the other naiads, mostly her mother, whose name she soon discovered to be Swirlpool. They taught her how to swim even faster than she could before, and how breathe in the water. They taught her how to manipulate the water, to the point where she could juggle eight orbs of pure water, then toss them up in the air, only to have them fall back towards the ground as snow. She learned to walk on the surface of the water, and to descend below and activate sort of a chemical camouflage where her body seemed to melt away into the water itself. By the end of the day, she could create larger whirlpools than she could have before, and not only that, but invert them, creating a sort of waterspout. And she had barely tired through all the training, which the other naiads considered largely unremarkable, considering she had spent most of the day in the water.

Cascade looked off into the sunset, Swirlpool at her side. "It almost feels... unreal." She told her mother. Swirlpool merely smiled...

After several hours of sailing through the massive waves that battered against the side of the ship, They made it out of the storm for the second time.

Slicer showed no sign's of emotion as the ship moved away from the storm. He and the rest of the crew were soaking wet. "Captain...We need to find land." Said one of the crew member's. Slicer nodded, Then a loud shout from the crow's nest could be heard. "LAND HO."

Slicer looked past the bow of the ship at a small dot in the distance. "Take us there." He said, Quietly. He walked to the bow of the ship and sat down. the sun was behind them as they sailed towards the island.

"Swirlpool! Swirlpool!"

Cascade and Swirlpool jumped, and looked around. An icy blue naiad was calling at them from the tallest building on the minuscule island.

"What is it?" Swirl called. "A ship approaches from the west!" "Thank you, Blizzard," Swirl responded. She stood, and so did Cascade. It was evident that Swirl was the unofficial leader of the naiads of the Sea of the Windigos... They gazed into the water, attempting to glean a view of the black dot that was a ship in front of the setting sun...

It wasn't until the ship was substantially closer, and what seemed to be the entire population of Naiad Island had gathered on the western shore, until the ship had grown near enough for Cascade to recognize its distinctive purple hue from where the stood in the crowd...

Slicer remained emotionless...Until he noticed a big group of ponies standing on the beach of the island. He stared as more and more bunched up into a crowd. He quickly flew to the helm to grab his spyglass. He then flew up to the crows nest and looked through at the group. *What a strange bunch...Very very pecu-Ca-Cascade ? IS THAT...CASCADE." He yelled, Dropping the spy glass and spreading his wing's. He jumped out of the crow's nest and without a second thought he flew as fast as he could at the island.

A form detached itself from the ship in the distance, and Cascade squinted at it, trying to decide if it was who she thought it would likely be. It looked like it. Slicer had found her. She was, to her own surprise, not pleased about this sudden occurrence  She was far happier here, with her mother and her own kind, than she had ever been on that accursed ship. Her head sagged, as she furiously tried to decide what to do...

He had failed to notice their wing's. *You should have just left...Be happy to have her gone.* *Oh shut up.* He thought, Still holding onto Cascade in a tight hug.

Cascade felt undeniably awkward hugging her captain... Quite possibly her former captain... She still hadn't decided... She patted him on the back uncomfortably, and glanced around. All the other naiads were staring.

"An outsider..." One of their number murmured quietly, almost fearfully...

After a second, Slicer let go and Looked into Cascade's eyes. "I missed you." He said, Giving her a warm smile. He then noticed some of the ponies around them back away. "I uh...Helloooo." He said in a cheery voice. "I'm a friend of Cascade...Is it alright if some of my crew come ashore ?" He asked. He felt much happier than usual and it was showing.

(OOC: Guin I'm confused, why did you make a distinction between the NPC's and the RP'ers by stating "everypony who knew her (only RPs, not NPCs) knew she loathed anypony who thought they could control her."? Does that mean Snowy and Rich both know you hate to be controlled?)

"Yeah...I guess we should be thankful for that..." Snowy shifted his eyes from the ocean waves to the report that Rich was holding in front of him. He remained quite while he read it, taking his time to read the list of casualties  "Praise Celestia, the damage isn't as severe as I had thought. Thank you for the report, Rich."

Snowy stared at the griffon for several seconds before he responded in a low growl. "For the love of Celestia that is not how the Equestrian military works. There are at least three dozen griffons that I have met personally that serve Equestria in her military. There are countless more that serve as mercenaries. If you really want to serve Equestria when we get to the port I suggest you go to the nearest recruitment office and either join the military or become a mercenary and see where they place you."

Cascade looked Slicer right back in the eyes, and responded, "I missed you too," and managed to keep the uncertainty of the statement out of her voice. Swirl approached the pair, and Cascade quickly pulled away from Slicer. "You know this pony?" "I do." "He may bring his crew onto the island to resupply, but they are allowed to do no more. Once they have what they need, they must leave. Outsiders are not allowed to stay here." Her tone was authoritative, final.

@,

Cascade looked into Slicer's face. That manic twinkle that usually controlled his eyes as gone, and he seemed sincere. For once. She thought. Here was the pony who had risked his life to try and save hers, that she had traveled with for years. Behind her was the group of ponies that she barely knew, yet offered her so much potential...

"I thought that was what I wanted, but... I'm not so sure anymore," she said, looking somewhat past him. The naiads of the island had mostly dispersed, but those that had remained offered her scandalized looks at this statement.

Fade flew up and landed a respectable distance away, carefree enough to let the relief show on her face. Cascade was alive and well, and now that they'd found her, they could set sail once more. She looked around, blatantly curious about the ponies standing close to Cascade. They looked so similar to her. Slicer and Cascade were talking but.... Something was wrong....

Was Cascade not returning with them?

(Fine. I don't care how badly this breaks things up, I want to have some fun.)

Red always whistled while he rowed, and today was no exception. He sort of wondered if the others had found the missing rations and other things yet. He figured they had, that Spark mare was quick as a whip and just as sharp-tongued. It had been annoying overpowering the guy who was standing by the boat, but he had gotten the job done. Red took out his map and reviewed the lines, Xes, circles and general scribbling. One small island to the north-east had been circled multiple times. Right then, guess I know where I'm headed next.
