The new releasing game is a reboot, so it has NOTHING to do with the previous games.

You definitely won't get the same experience if you play this new one and then the old ones, the new one is much slower than the older games.

Play DMC3 and DMC1, in the order i said.

Try to get the secret ending in DMC3 if you can, it will help you with the story.

I got the secret ending first try.(SPOILER AHEAD GOD DAMNIT) I personally Like Vergil better than I do Dante, and I was devastated to see Vergil go down like that. It was nice to see he had survived in DMC1, but when he exploded it kind of lost that feel. I feel bad for Dante, too. He practically lost his brother two times and that must have been painful.

Yeah, it's really sad.

Holy shit, that's the sexiest gameplay of darkslayer I've ever seen. It'll take me a long time to be able to achieve that, I can barely even use the melee and summon sword button at the same time.

Yeah this guy Kail is sick, he has tons of videos with every style, he dominates the game like nobody else can.

I love how he uses the jump cancelling technique all the time, that is way beyond awesome.

Oh also, found something that gets DmC to deeper shame.

Watch from the beginning to 0:40.

Ew, crude penis humour. That's like, the worse it can get when it comes to humour. It's overused and stupid, for one thing. This new DmC should commit seppuku, as it brings dishonour to the family.

Alright, later today I will probably be getting DmC. I'm so hyped for it. I wanna beat DMC2 first just in case there's any references, even subtle ones, to the older games and I don't wanna miss that. I'm on like mission 9 of DMC2 and that last boss was pathetic and pointless. Seriously, what's the point of a boss that can only attack short range when you can just stand back and obliterate him with Ebony&Ivory and/or the shotgun and then devil trigger and use the demon gun that is so OP it destroys EVERYTHING? xD

I give DMC2 points for having a certain style about it at least.

Got DmC tonight. Will write a review for it when I'm done but gonna beat DMC2 first. Can't wait to get started on it though. I was hyped for it before the demo but the demo sealed the deal.

No refferences to older games as far as i know, except for this

DMC2 is known for being so easy because of the weapons, so yeah, you can obliterate any boss even that one you mentioned with just guns.

I will be glad to read your review for DmC, take your time.

Corny innuendos aren't that much funnier, either.Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Anyhow, after watching some of the cutscens from DmC,I honestly don't know if I wanna buy it anymore.Granted,I don't expect a great story from a hack-'n'-slash,but it could at least be tolerable like Bayonetta's.The writing is just...eugh,I'm definitely waiting for a price drop on this game.

Now,MGR on the other hand...THAT'S a good first day buy.Or at least it looks like it would be.

I wasn't a fan of the Dante half of DMC4, so I'm sort of neutral on the corny sex jokes dante makes with lucifer.

I watched some cutscenes as well, especially from the very end of the game. The ending of it was horrid. The writing, the way it worked. In fact, it was pretty much sequel bait. It also was cliche, as in the end the two brothers fight. It smelled like DMC3, to me.

Just gonna say I could do without the endgame spoilers outside of tags, Nim. lol

I know you kinda got a hate thing going on for the game but I really really hate spoilers unless I specifically ask for them no matter how obvious or tacky they may or may not be.

I beat Dante's side of DMC2 and I'm really hoping they somehow have a Sonic Adventure-esque final story because the end to Dante's was such a huuuuuuge cliffhanger. Started on Lucia's last night so we'll see if her story will wrap up anything but I sincerely doubt it. DMC2 really feels like a "this should be your first DMC" because it's far more simplified and you are extremely overpowered. I really liked the music and overall style of the game (Dante's hair animation was pretty sweet, actually) but this is one of the VERY few games where I'll say the voice acting is actually really terrible. I'm not picky about voice acting, I watch anime dubbed for cryin' out loud and have no problem with it 99% of the time, but this game had pretty bad stuff. Dante himself was the most tame of them all.

And I guess I was wrong about the lock-on. I could really swear that there was a lock-on button in the demo for DmC. Maybe it's just got really good auto-lock-on so it still feels right. I remember the combat feeling as smooth as ever.

I forget to add spoiler tags to everything. Sorry 'bout that.

And yeah, DMC2 was in-fact the easiest game of the series. One of the reasons why it was called the black-sheep of the series. It was easy, and Capcom also stripped Dante of his personality for some reason in this one. He was quiet and dark, which shows something apparently happened in the canon-storyline between 4 and 2.

Quite alright. It happens.

I think it's more like they wanted Dante to be more the "tall, dark and quiet" type. I wouldn't say he had much of a personality in the first one either though. It wasn't until 3 and 4 that he had that cocky personality.

He had quite a personality in 1, actually. He got a whole lot darker when the end of the game came around and he (FUCKING SPOILERS YOU ASSES) killed Nelo Angelo. I think the first fight with Griffon was fucking hilarious. "Flock off, feather face!" sent me into a spew of nothing but laughter for minutes

I don't recall him reacting at all to

killing Nelo Angelo actually. Seemed like he just took the pendant and walked away. Though there were no subtitles in my version on the HD Collection and the voices were extremely quiet so I could have missed a line but honestly I don't really remember much personality out of Dante. Hell, there was some crazy inconsistency between him being betrayed by Trish and suddenly wanting to 'fill her dark soul with light.' There was no inbetween story that would say "oh he cares about Trish now." He specifically said he never wanted to see her again before he got to Mundus and saw her chained up.

In case you didn't know, Trish was designed to look exactly like Dante's mother, Eva. Hence why he spared her in the first place. He has feelings for her because of the fact that she looks like Eva.

And when dante does pick up the amulet, he has a flashback to their 8th birthday, the day the two got the pendants. Eva called for Him and Vergil, and the two were arguing over who wanted chocolate cake. And I'm pretty sure he screams in agony, but i can't remember. If he didn't scream, then he might have been in at least some shock. He found out his brother was alive, except oh, he's dead again and I just killed him. Losing a sibling like that two times is heartbreaking, I wouldn't be surprise if he was too shocked to even say a thing about it..

I knew about Trish and

he even specifically said the only reason he saved her was because of the way she looked. It was immediately after that that he said he never wanted to see her again.

Also, I remember the flashback now but I still don't recall him reacting to it. I really don't feel like Dante had much personality in 1 or even 2 though I liked the "let's leave everything to chance" shtick he had going on in the second one.

Alright, beat Lucia's side in one night. (Mostly because she only has 13 missions as opposed to Dante's 18)

Overall I would say I enjoyed it. It's not a terrible game just feels really weird if you go into it straight from another DMC game.

I knew Dante's coin was double-headed about halfway through Lucia's side. There's no way it wasn't. lol

Lucia didn't seem to want to hold her supposed accent though so that made things kinda weird.

Now I'm gonna finally start DmC and do the first mission at least before bed.

Tell me what you think after you've played it for a bit. I want to see what your opinion is after actually playing it, rather than giving it praise over a demo.

Ha, when you've got a demo that is THAT good it's hard not to praise it. Rare is the demo that doesn't give me exactly what I want and doesn't make me want to buy a game.

The game will probably be a lot of fun to 100% between needing to go back through levels with new equipment to go into new paths and find everything as well as trying to find the keys to open doors it's gonna be really fun. At first I felt like they took out the exploration aspect a little but then I realized they just morphed the way it plays out. You just go back through missions with later weapons and items and you'll be able to explore more of it. In the first level there's a place where you need the demon weapon but you don't even get that until the NEXT level. That kind of backtracking is pretty awesome, especially if it leads to blue orbs and/or secret missions or maybe even more keys for later areas.

I really enjoy the music in this game. It's a mix of death metal and industrial metal and overall feels really nice.

I like how Dante isn't just a cocky bastard in this one too. He actually seems to have some emotions.

As for the combat: even without the lock-on it's amazing. They quite literally make Dante so responsive that you don't NEED a lock-on besides the light and lenient auto-lock-on that they already have. I was pulling tons of combos off and switching between the demon and angel weapons in the midst of it all just made it look that much better.

Though I noticed it's way easier to keep up a combo because the combo timer lasts WAY longer and enemies aren't nearly as fierce (on Devil Hunter anyway) as other ones and they telegraph their attacks really well so you can usually predict their next move.

I love the feel of Limbo. I kinda felt like Limbo would be a repetitive experience but so far, 2 missions in, it hasn't felt like that at all. The environments are really varied and between pulling with the grapples, moving scenery and overall atmosphere of "the demons are watching you" and the "KILL HIM" words everywhere.....man this game feels amazing.

The demo doesn't do the game justice, honestly. Sure, they give you a feel for some of the gameplay but it says nothing of the story and very little of the atmosphere.

Note: This is not the review I was talking about. I only review AFTER I've beaten a game so I will go far more in-depth when I beat it and upload a review so keep an eye out for the review in my blog, y'all.

Aight, peeps. Got a review up in my blog for DmC. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and it is DEFINITELY the best in the series imo. I'm also still not convinced this isn't a prequel and not a reboot. Nearly everything in the game could still be played off as a prequel to the entire series.

Gotta say but am a huge fan of the DMC games since they first came, got all of them (even bought DMC 2 twice if you can believe that) and never regretted my decision on playing them. Favorite of the series would have to be 3. Enjoyed how the updated the combat system, bosses, and seeing how the entire series had started. Currently playing 3 on Very Hard, hoping to beat it on the higher difficulties but I have my doubts.

Have seen the new DmC, looks to be good from what I have saw and heard. Will wait until the prices go down for it so I can buy and try it out. Also good to see that there are Devil May Cry fans here! :)

  • 5 years later...

I've only really played Devil May Cry 3, but I thought it was a pretty fun game. Never finished it though! I'd like to try the other games at some point, which shouldn't be a problem since DMC3 is first chronologically.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
