This is a poem about unity and peace amongst mankind, an ideal which I'm glad to say is largely practiced in our community.

 

"Death and Taxes (What Unites Us)"

 

Death and taxes;
Can't live without them they say.
Well is that all?
I'm here to say nay.

We all know love,
Even if we deny it.
We all face fear,
Whether to fight or commit.
We all dream, I say,
And this is where beauty resides.
And the most terrible thing to do
Is to cast them aside.

In each of us is an artist, a wonderful poet;
For we live life every day,
And life's art if I know it.

If we thought for a moment 
Of these things that unite us;
Instead of arguing,
We laughed, shared and discussed,
We could work together 
With everyone,
And even death and taxes could be overcome.

Taxes are here to stay,

death will come for you.

Hey, it's nearly due.

You don't have a say.

We will die alone, 

we just live with each other,

I say this with a sad tone -

why even bother?
