Pros and Cons of Each Mane 6?

If this has already been done... sincere apologies, but this has really interested me. I'd love to hear a brief but also insightful pros and cons list from all you Bronies. This thread is for you guys to write about what you like and what you don't like about each character, or what you simply notice as their talents/shortcomings. It doesn't need to be elaborate - maybe three Pros, three Cons, feel free to do more. Oh, and you MUST include at least two of each! None of that "This pony has no cons because she's the best pony", that's no fun!

Twilight Sparkle

 

- Pros:

-- Unimpeachable intelligence and appreciates the value of knowledge
-- A core desire to make things right for her friends
-- Opinions on events are generally unbiased and sensible

-- Very good-looking, both in terms of colour scheme and design

-- Plays the biggest part in defeating Nightmare Moon, Discord and King Sombra

-- Can burst into flames - that's badass.

-- Her organization skills are top-notch
-- Her magic is good enough to divert an Ursa Minor, overcome a feared dark unicorn and earn the attention of Princess Celestia even at a young age.

 

- Cons:

-- Evident problems with anxiety
-- Seems a bit too serious at times

-- If I may say so, she sucks up to Celestia a lot

-- She almost completely abandons her friends when Discord's in power

 

Applejack

- Pros:

-- Overflowing with honour, pride and fairness
-- Absolutely selfless, especially in Spike at your Service
-- Very athletic and hardy
-- Saved Ponyville a bunch of times, including MMDW and diverting the stampede

-- The most dependable of the mane 6

-- A devoted and loving family member - even when they're not her own family members! (Rarity and Sweetie Belle)

-- A purely personal pro, but her Southern accent is really attractive

- Cons:

-- Clear lack of manners
-- Her pride sometimes manifests itself as impatience

-- Her fondness of tradition often backfires, such as in Winter Wrap Up and Apple Family Reunion

-- Is the most prone to getting into arguments

 

Rainbow Dash

- Pros:

-- Always helps out her friends

-- Super ambitious
-- Manages to have admirable confidence while still having great reasoning skills
-- Amazing talent as a flyer, even outflying the Wonderbolts whom she idolises
-- Very good character design

-- The only Mane 6 pony to gain her own fan club

-- Knows how to limit her competitiveness in certain situations
-- Duly appreciates the respect of other ponies, especially Scootaloo's

-- Knows how to put former experiences aside and focus on current circumstances - apparent in Griffon the Brush Off and Wonderbolt Academy (where her appeal to Spitfire only includes academy achievements rather than her Best Young Flyer performance)

 

- Cons:

-- Seems to be quite lazy (takes so many naps)
-- Can be quick to jump to conclusions

-- Falls victim to cockiness when in the presence of her fan club

-- In elaboration of the above con, she is generally quite boastful

-- Really needs to stop bluntly insulting others!

-- Clearly super talented

-- Being overly dramatic makes for brilliant comedy

-- Being the most "ladylike" of the Mane 6, she can use charming persuasion to help out others
-- Have you noticed she has some sweet kickboxing skills?

-- Quickly appreciates sisterly love

-- Beautiful enough to completely mesmerise Spike... and a load of other ponies too!

- Cons:

-- Overly finicky
-- Seeks attention a bit too much
-- Her pride and joy, dressmaking, actually turns out to be nothing special as Fluttershy appears to have just as much knowledge as her

Fluttershy

- Pros:

-- The gentlest of all the ponies
-- An admirable desire to be more assertive, while also realising when to limit it
-- A great natural talent with animals
-- Ignores pegasus demographics and does what she wants to do - a bit like us Bronies

-- Her Stare is a pretty damn cool ability
-- Even though initially timid, she will overcome this in order to save her friends - from the dragon in Dragonshy and the cockatrice in The Stare Master
-- When wanting to express frustration she limits it so as to not disturb other ponies

-- Displays the sub-talents of musical direction and sewing

-- The fact that she must be pushed hard to express her true beliefs shows tact, as well as subtlety

 

- Cons:

-- She isn't very eager to try new things
-- Her flying abilities are terrible!
-- Appears to gain the most collective disapproval from her friends
-- Succumbs very easily to pressure

-- Her episodes are quite formulaic

Pinkie Pie

- Pros:

-- The jolliest and most selfless of all the Mane 6

-- Displays unmatchable enthusiasm and interest in new things

-- Provides the most amazing comic relief for the show - gorgeous sense of humour

-- Incredibly talented songwriter, as well as a beautiful singing voice

-- Knows when to limit her hyperactivity, e.g. initial disapproval of extra clones in Too Many Pinkie Pies
-- Absolutely ridiculously adorable

-- So many opportunities for character development

-- Seems to be talented in just about everything - playing musical instruments, tic-tac-toe, baking, racing, singing, memorising information, contortionism, defiance of physics, predicting the future, ice-skating, and pulling objects out of nowhere. She's everything.

-- Even when she's at her most insecure, she attempts to reason with her inanimate friends that her friends aren't deliberately avoiding her, which shows faith in her own beliefs

- Cons:

-- Too many personality elements for writers to keep up with
-- Is the most prone to out-of-character moments

-- Other ponies don't often take her seriously, or rely on her for important things
-- Her desire to please everyone often comes across as over-attachment
-- She doesn't look good on T-shirts :c

Pros:

- Will be there for her friends when they truely need it

- very proud of her accomplishments

- Isn't afraid to give up dreams for her friends(see Wonderbolt Academy)

- Will open up when necessary(See Sleepless)

- Will give honest opinions

- Usually stciks to her opinions(unless she gets some good convincing)

- Great leadership skills
Cons:

- Blunt with her honesty

- Has an ego, can be a bit too proud

- Can be a bit of a dick

- overdoes things

- Can be shallow

- Insensitive

- Not open about her emotions(see Sonic Rainboom)

- Can also be stubborn

 

Rarity
Pros:

- Proud of her accomplishments

- Beautiful

- Worries when there is something wrong with her friends

- Nows how to use a ladies intuition

- Cares about her sister

- Professional about her work
Cons:
- Can be a bit too dramatic

- Often doesn't stay true to her element

- Often careless towards her friends or her sister(see Sonic Rainboom or Sisterhooves)

- Still has a lot to learn about being a sister

- Worries about things at the worst times

Fluttershy
Pros:

- Adorable

- Very caring towards animals

- Very caring towards her friends

- Will rip you a new one when you piss her off

- Often smart enough to stay away from dangerous things
Cons:
- Her shyness and fearful nature very often goes from genuine fear to just being a wuss

- Will rip you a new one when you piss you off

- She be a bit too assertive(not sure if this belongs on the reason above)

- Pinkie Sense!

Cons:

- Can be a bit insenitive 

- Can worry too much

- Sometimes doesn't learn from her mistakes(one of my problems with A Friend on Deed)

- Pros:

   - Is a character that feels very real

   - Has issues that changes throughout the seasons. Her flaws aren't static.

   - Absolutely adorkable

   - Relationships with Princess Celestia and Spike are fairly unique

 

- Cons:

   - I miss her Season 1 insecurity (her flaws change)

   - Sometimes suffers from "Main character blandness"

   - She doesn't truly shine in most episodes featuring her (working better in group episodes)

 

Applejack

- Pros:

  - Has subtle, more emotional problems and flaws. She tries so hard to be the responsible one and do everything... because she never got to be a kid. 

  - Learns from her lessons. She's been more willing to accept help and less competitive since Season 1.

  - Hilarious, sarcastic sense of humor

  - Prettiest design

  - The straight mare

  -  Is very very d'aww when she's sad. She usually keeps herself under control, so when she breaks down... 

  - Coolest pony. Sorry, RD. You just can't touch this.

  - She is selfless and treats saving people's lives like it's nothing

  - She gets the job done and doesn't dump work on other ponies. She's gonna do this on her OWN.

  - ...She is just awesome in everything she does. Come on, I'm a human. Sometimes there's just a little bit of a fangirl in me.

 

- Cons:

  - Sometimes plays the dumb one. And that's annoying.

  - Her sense of superiority can get kind of irritating. 

 

Rainbow Dash

- Pros:

  - Is really focused about how other people see her. And I have a strong fondness for image-based characters and image-based flaws. 

  - Tries to be a good friend, but can be insensitive. At heart, she is really caring, though. 

  - Love her voice

  - She's arrogant, but really insecure behnd it all. Again, love these sorts of character types.

  - Despite her friend, Fluttershy, being much more obvious about it, Rainbow Dash too has a little vulnerability to bullies or peer pressure. Just because it wasn't as bad doesn't mean that it didn't hurt, and you can tell in episodes like Sonic Rainboom. 

  - I kinda sorta almost liked her more than Fluttershy In Hurricane Fluttershy.

 

- Cons:

  - She is not awesome.

  - When she tries to be awesome, she fails.

  - Especially when she tries to be awesomer than someone else.

  - Sometimes she is very mean spirited. 

  - I didn't really like her in Season 1. 

 

Rarity

- Pros:

  - Is one of the kindest ponies and is very self sacrificing

  - Love her accent and voice so much.

  - Is in fashion for the art. As someone who appreciates design and fashion, this is very welcome.

  - Mature and hard working

  - Is actually seen being friends with her, well, friends. She's BBFs with ponies who are very different from her (Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy), and by Season 3, she and Applejack seem to understand each other and are friends too, which displays plenty of character development on both sides.

  - She's not rich or high in social status, and the little touches like her lack of common recognization and her false eyelashes add a hint of subtlety and sympathy to her character.

 

- Cons:

  - The writers keep ignoring her positive aspects and emphasize only the negatives. As a general rule, I like the characters at their most flawed. Rarity, however... yeah, just give me some Suited For Success, okay? Rarity is a character who has well defined flaws by now. Her kind, generous side, however, still has much to offer. One of the main factors that led to her slide down my list of favorites.

 

Fluttershy

- Pros:

  - I am not the biggest fan of Fluttershy, it's true. But sometimes, she can be the most sad and gut wrenching of the characters. Except Applejack, of course. Speaking of her... Fluttershy is constantly haunted by the ghosts of her past. I wonder... an episode with Fluttershy and Applejack... Applejack, who pushes her grief and her past issues to the side on one side... and Fluttershy, who allows them to control her. Sounds like a recipe for a great moral about overcoming stuff that happened in the past.

  - There's many members of the Mane 6 who have issues with pride (Rainbow Dash is the obvious one), but this flaw is my favorite in Fluttershy. It's such a delicious contradiction! The pony who seems the least confident and least sure of herself can be smug and overestimates her own abilities. 

 

- Cons:

  - Same shtick every time. Oh look, Fluttershy is shy and not assertive. What else is new? Why, I do believe that Rarity might be a fan of fashion and Twilight Sparkle has a talent for magic!

  - I guess this one reflects on the show itself. Fluttershy keeps getting overshadowed by her friends. If I could, I would label Hurricane Fluttershy both the best Fluttershy episode and the best Rainbow Dash episode. Is this what some people feel like about Applejack?

  - Fluttershy must have memory loss or something, because she keeps forgetting the lessons she learns. The reason why I'm starting to warm up a little to her lately is because she actually seems to be changing as a character. 

  - Just like how Rainbow Dash is not awesome, Fluttershy is not cute. Least cute of the Mane 6 fo sho. 

  - "Yay" isn't that funny. Not even the first time around. Why does nopony notice the comedic genius of Twilight's 50 foot long scroll rolling out in The Crystal Empire or that hilariously awkward pause during the parade in One Bad Apple? Why did this get famous?

 

Pinkie Pie

- Pros:

  - I love that she seems to be good with other ponies. She has the social graces in a way that Rarity does not, and it makes her stand out as a character.

  - Insecure about her friends not liking her? What did you think I'd say, that that is a flaw that I'd never find interesting?

  - She's really nice and is actually a much better friend than meets the eye

  - I like that she's skeptical too in her own way. Serves as a "not so different" trait when compared to Twilight Sparkle.

 

- Cons:

  - Not funneh. Why does everypony highlight these qualities in ponies that I do not see? There have been a few times that she's made me laugh, I admit. But again, I'm weird; for some reason they are all Merriwether episodes.

  - She can get pretty annoying. The Last Roundup had me feeling just like Applejack. Just. Like. Applejack. I actually wanted to remove her mouth there like Trixie.

- Pros: Very intelligent, skilled with magic.
- Cons: OCD.



Applejack
- Pros:Honest, always willing to help others.
- Cons: Can be stubborn, can seem like she's just kinda there in some episodes.



Rainbow Dash
- Pros: Loyal, fast, and when she's not being a dick, awesome.
- Cons: Cocky, acts like a total dick at various points in the show, self-absorbed.



Rarity
- Pros: Generous (sometimes), willing to work day and night for her friends, funny.
- Cons: Ungenerous (sometimes), negative aspects of her character are portrayed in the show more than her positive ones.

Fluttershy
- Pros: Adorable, kind, and funny. Also, she reminds me of Gohan.
- Cons: Can't seem to strike a good balance between shy and assertive.

Pinkie Pie
- Pros: She's weird.
- Cons: She's weird.

Pros:

Most mature, most level-headed of the group. She's also usually the one to notice things before other ponies or say or do things before other ponies like apologizing. She's also best sister (as of yet)
Cons:

Lack of interesting episodes about her due to her lack of lessons to learn. Being the most mature has it's problems. 'I didn' learn anythin' I was right all along'. It's probably a bit harder to come up with worthwhile, unique and interesting lessons for AJ to learn, without making her seem OOC for that episode. IMO, AJ was channeling Twilight's OCD way too much in Apple Family Reunion, for example. I don't think it would take her as long as it did to figure out things shouldn't have been done the way they were being done.

 

Rainbow Dash
Pros:

Great personality with plenty of strengths as well as flaws to make her realistic, and entertaining to watch. Cute, funny, competitive, awesome, pouty, Scootalove (aka Sappy Dash Mode), etc etc.

Cons:

She is straight-forward and many people will simply be turned off by her personality, in general. Rainbow leans more towards a 'love her or hate her' character than she does a full spectrum of feelings. She can be brash, overly-competitive and even come off as mean, despite how I may or may not have arguments against certain points regarding these.

 

Rarity
Pros:

She has a complex character. She's in-depth and it takes someone who looks below the surface to notice a lot of her good traits, sometimes. In many shows she'd be the vain villain who is self-centered, but she isn't.
Cons:

She has a complex character. There are many moments in the show where Rarity is thrown under the figurative bus. For one of many examples; Rarity seemingly making Sweetie pull her cart in Sleepless in Ponyville? Many, including myself, would figure that Rarity and Sweetie probably agreed to this arrangement before-hand, seeing as Sweetie was 'making' Rarity go, and that Sweetie was going to earn this trip by helping her with her things. But it's moments like these were she gets shittons of hate, because a vast majority find it much easier to call her shallow, self-centered, or any number of things. If the show put a little more effort into sometimes making things like this less ambiguous and open for interpretation, some of that hate wouldn't be happening, I believe. Granted, she can be very vain and in my honest opinion obnoxious sometimes, but she doesn't deserve half the hate she gets.

Fluttershy
Pros:

She's had lots of growth despite some inconsistencies, and overall I enjoy her relationships with some of my other more favorite ponies. Yeah, that's it :3
Cons:

Her demeanor is inconsistent and, IMO, overrated. As many have said, sometimes it seems like Fluttershy is shy where you think she'd be assertive, and then there's times where the vice-versa is true. Asides from that, her entire 'cuteness, soft, quiet spoken' personality, etc is all just a bit too cliche for me, for it to be deserving of her absolutely bloated fanbase.
 

Pinkie Pie
Pros:

She's to MLP what the Genie is to Aladdin. The epic comedy relief character. Pinkie is funny and is just enjoyable to watch to see what she does next.
Cons:

FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN!

good:Has a strong sense of right and wrong, nearly always keeps her word. A very hard and diligent worker. Family and friends are very important to her. Is mostly level headed, mature and wise.

 

bad:Can be very stubborn and set in her ways and often has a habit of overdoing it.

 

 

Twilight Sparkle

 

good:Has an inquisitive mind with a strong thirst for knowledge and love of learning. Is slightly ambitious but not the point of arrogance and has the patience as well as willingness to put in the hard work to succeed.

 

bad:can sometimes lack basic common sense aka "street smarts" and in some cases has been shown to fairly closed minded. She can sometimes be slightly anal retentive and also struggles with social anxiety and severe OCD which thought has gotten better is still quite a struggle.

 

Rainbow Dash

 

good: Is very loyal and will not hesitate to stand by her friends when they are in need. She has ambitious goals but is willing to put in the hard work and sacrifice to make them come true but without compromising her principles.

 

bad:Can sometimes be extremely arrogant and struggles with some very deep seated insecurities about showing emotion and maintaining her "rep".

 

 

Pinkie Pie

 

good: Is very friendly and has a positive attitude and a sincere desire to make everypone smile.

 

bad: Has almost no concept of personal space and can sometimes go into creepy stalker mode. And sometimes struggles with when to be silly and when to be serious.

 

Fluttershy

 

good: Is very kind, gentle and compassionate.

 

bad: She seems to learn a lesson and then forgets it a few episodes later making her as a character a bit inconsistent.

 

 

Rarity

 

good: Can on some key occasions be generous, and is often willing to go to great lengths to do things she wouldn't normally do to make her sister Sweetie Belle happy.

 

bad: Can sometimes be selfish, shallow, vain over dramatic premadonna.

Good: Loyal, devoted, brave, heroic, athletic, protective of her friends, and is very ambitious in her aspirations.

Bad: Brash, arrogant, impatient, hot-headed, egotistical, reckless, competitive, immature, lazy, mischievous, braggart, blunt, and insecure about her reputation.

Good: Beautiful inwardly and outwardly, generous, aware of her own flaws, creative, supportive, understanding, polite, sophisticated, clean, willing to suffer discomfort when need be.

Bad: Vain, self-centered, selfish at times, overly dramatic, gets carried away with herself, and can be downright shallow.

 

Fluttershy

Good: Peaceful, kind, compassionate, warm, nurturing, forgiving, patient, modest, polite, graceful, and gentle.

Bad: Extremely timid, weak, cowardly, very sensitive, dishonest at times, and too quiet.

 

Applejack

Good: Honest, loyal, hard-working, ethical, practical, friendly, outgoing, strong, competent, level-headed, down-to-earth, independent, responsible, motherly, mature, wise, leader-like, understanding. She has a lot of integrity.
