writing The Forgiving Fire

I wish I could escape the fire

This unnatural light of ignorance that surrounds me

Filled with the voices of tortured, angry souls

The flame itself stretching forward with determination

Its sparks igniting the ground with burning passion

And the voices of the flames grow ever more violent

Thrashing about alongside the twisted fire

Expanding and burning

I wish I could escape the fire

Yet, I am held here by a strange sensation
A yearning, and an unquestionable curiosity

It keeps me rooted where I stand

Unable to turn away

Unable to flee this horrid blaze

And so I stand

And in time, the flame consumes me

I admit that fear was in my eyes

And in my hands as I trembled

Shaking as they touched that cruel fire

But…

The fear was replaced right then

With translucent understanding

A single touch was just the beginning

The sensation of worry dissipated

My skin becoming enveloped with the pulsing fire

All across my body, and then inside of me

My heart was the flame’s prize

If only for a moment, despite my loss of fear,

I figured I had died

And how wrong I had been

Wrong of the effects of this fire

And wrong of its nature as well

These souls were not of the malevolent sort

And their intentions were never that of destruction

Of pain, and suffering

Of loss, and of fear

Instead, this flame which before I had wished to flee,

Only wished to create

To spread a form of understanding unknown to our ignorant minds

And oh how Ironic that is!

That I had thought this fire to be of ignorance
