Would a Super Rainbow Dash be stupid?

I think it would be a rather bad idea because I already thought her Rainbow Power form was too much. (Not just her, but she did stand out)

 

Additionally, I love Dashie but her ego would reach critical mass and suck everything in like a rainbow-colored vortex. I wouldn't stop watching the show because of it, but I'd facepalm hard enough to be heard in Equestria.

RD already outperforms every other pony in Ponyville and, although she's really nice to everyone she's already got an ego the size of a small South American country so how much more annoying would she be if she suddenly developed super powers? Also, she can already fly fast enough to break the sound barrier! That's over 760 miles an hour! If she went any faster than she already does she'd burn up in the atmosphere! lol!

A lot of you, btw, act like this is going to be a permanent thing, regarding both transformations. They aren't, as this type of thing would only make sense in the season openers and finales when they're fighting these big threats such as Tirek and Discord. If these transformations would be used willy-nilly in the slice of life episodes, then yes, it would be unfitting. But the writers are much smarter than that, and I trust that they won't make this mistake.

 

Even so, though, who's to say that having a super form doesn't come with its own lessons to learn? It does, And since you fear that Dash will be so arrogant, well, all the more reasons to make her be like that, since there's a bunch of topics on here asking, "Is ________ a Mary Sue?" It makes her more flawed and more realistic that way.

 

Ah, but then again, a bunch of you are against adventure episodes anyway and only focus on the slice-of-life aspect. So yeah, I'm probably just wasting my time here. =/

I have a couple questions that I pose for any "super" form that isn't canon.

 

Why? How would this develop the character? What situations would she need to use this? When would she even have a reason to go super?

 

 

 

 

Here's the thing, something like a super form needs a reason to exist in a story. Dragonball z, Naruto (or pretty much every shonen action anime), even Sonic have a plot largely based around fighting and physical altercations. The thing with these types of shows is eventually these characters get too strong for there to be a believable challenge with their usual enemies. No challenge means the fights are not going to have any real stakes and your show risks becoming boring. There are three popular ways of dealing with this problem.

 

Have your character kick ass in the most awesome way possible: Hellsing Ultimate would be a prime example of this, Alucard is so powerful there is no real doubt that he is going to win, rather its the spectacle of HOW he wins with that big ol grin on his face where the enjoyment factor comes in. If you don't have a visually striking style and an interesting character though this is not a recommended solution.

 

Have your character periodically nerfed: The pokemon approach, its why that Level 100 pikachu can get beat by a starter pokemon decades into their journey and why Ash seems to forget all his lessons in each new area. This can get REAL annoying for long term fans though.

 

And finally, The ever famous and Popular super form: Made popular by Dragon ball z its the way they go about raising the stakes. When their new villain Frieza came onto the scene it was made perfectly clear that none of the characters had the strength to take him on. They beat on him, blasted him, did everything they could to no avail. It was only when the main character erupted into this new form that they actually could beat this bad guy. It was pretty cool, they set it up alright and the pay out was awesome to my younger self at the time.

The problem with this solution to maintaining conflict though is that in order to make conflict again you have to make a character not only more threatening than Frieza but you have to make one that waves off super saiyans like they were nothing. This is called Power Inflation. It sort of cheapens the super form when a robot chick in denim can still break your arm and whoop your behind like you're Yamcha. Eventually Super Sayian was something that pretty much everyone could do, and the ones who couldn't were regulated to rarely seen background characters because they could not hope to compete with the power inflation. 

 

 

Why do I bring all this up?

How many fights have the mane six been in? Maybe a handful? couple of conflicts on pivotal moments in the show that they dealt with by working together to take out a stronger opponent, which is actually MORE interesting than someone spontaneously growing hair and getting a strength boost. In fact wouldn't of it been more interesting if Frieza were taken down because he was outsmarted and beat through tactical teamwork as supposed to one randomly going super, isn't that how they beat Vegeta in the end? MLP doesn't need this kind of solution because it doesn't really have the problem that shows like sonic or DBZ had. Its not an action martial arts show, its largely a slice of life one with magical elements. 

 

I was really worried about the Rainbow forms specifically because them being able to do that whenever means that the stakes would HAVE to go higher in order to maintain conflict, which would spiral into the power inflation that happens so much in those types of shows.
