Arrrrrrgh! I'm a pirate. I'm going to suck up my fanboyishness and vote for an episode that provided excellent development and characterization for all of the mane six rather than one that did so mostly for just my favorite character. Due to the powerful scenes and the build up I found The Return of Harmony to be one of the greatest episodes in the series,and it's probably my pick to win the tourney now that Hurricane Flutters and Sleepless are unjustly, criminally and cruelly gone and I demand a recount

Curse you M.A Larson for writing such great episodes and then forcing me to choose between them.

Sonic Rainboom was a wonderful episode, but I have one problem with it.  The big climactic moment when Dash finally performs the Rainboom didn't feel nearly as big or important as I feel it should have.  It just sort of came and went, which I found to be somewhat disappointing.  Return of Harmony is also an excellent episode, and it knew where its big moments were and how to make them feel even more dramatic.  

 

And so, I vote for Return of Harmony.

Now, this is where the competition turns brutal. Both of these are the most revered episodes in the community, and each are great in their own right.
 

I do have to go for Return of Harmony Part 2. It just absolutely ignited the Brony fervour in me, and even more so seeing it in others. This was the episode coming in after a long break where the Brony fandom had some fresh air to develop and blossom after the first season - and also accumulate anticipation. Even when you take our favourite crew of equines and corrupt them into their polar opposites, the situations you get from it are so amazingly humorous. Some examples:

 

Twilight: "Do you even know what you just stole?"
Grey Rarity: "No, but if you want it, I WANT IT!"
 

Grey Pinkie Pie: "This may look like fun... but it's not!"
 

Twilight: "Congratulations, Spike! You're the new Rainbow Dash."
 

Grey Pinkie Pie: "You better think before you laugh at the Pink...ie Pie!" *cute angry face*
 

Grey Fluttershy: "What's soaking wet and clueless?" *sticks bucket of water over Twilight* "Your face!"
 

Not to mention things like Rarity's kung fu kick protecting her boulder, and the chase after Grey Rainbow Dash. This episode was just full to brimming with brilliant situations that, after waiting to see the ponies come in again after so long, was just so welcomed.

 

I do also like Sonic Rainboom - I think the artistic sides of us all loved seeing that Rainboom explode into sight, and the ever famous "yay" scene. Aside from these two scenes, however, I think it just about matches quite a few other episodes where you get an unknown character trait in a pony for them to overcome. All the appeal comes from the fact that it's a Rainbow Dash episode (she is apparently the second most popular pony) and the Rainboom itself was wonderfully animated.

Nyergh, can we just give all four of the semifinal episodes a gold trophy?

Gotta give it to Return of Harmony.  Discord's great, and the gray mane six was a fabulous idea, plus the Applejack montage.  One of my favorites.

 

But Sonic Rainboom was good.

I really liked 'keep calm and flutter on.' I think it was the episode that finally showed fluttershys friends that there is more to her than they thought. Also it displayed that friendship is something to be valued above ones own desires, a very valuable lesson indeed ^^

I liked that episode too - however for this thread you'll need to vote between the two episodes that have been pitted against each other. In this case it's Sonic Rainboom v The Return of Harmony Part 2. It's part of a giant tournament.

I know. I just had to say it But for topical purposes I have to go with sonic rainboom. Rainbow dash is such an awesome character.

And ever since that damned 'my little dashie' story Ive had a serious soft spot for her, even thought it was jsut fanfic...

Oh come on.  This is cruel and unusual punishment.     Both episodes are so epic in my mind and so evenly matched that I could decide this vote in one of two ways:  Flip a coin, or choose the one that does justice for the greatest number of ponies.  I'm too lazy to get up and grab a quarter so The Return of Harmony gets the nod.

I'm going to suck up my fanboyism for Rainbow Dash and vote for the Return of Harmony Part 2. John De Lancie really did portray Discord very perfectly, and he really brought the Mane 6 down to their knees but taking their elements, so they can instead be the opposite of their element or as I could say the Anti-Elements of Harmony.

These are two of the greatest episodes we've ever had, but Sonic Rainboom is my favorite of all time, so I have to go with it. The character development, the moral, and the rainboom itself were all amazing.

Tricky. I can empathize with both of them, but sort of like my reasoning for the last round I'm voting for the episode that provided good characterization for all of the Mane Six. Plus, adorable Dashie, best dessert, Spitfire, Psychoshy, Cinderella references and sweet songs with even sweeter Rainbow Dash solos break ties .

Sorry Sisterhooves, this night I'm voting for Best Night.

To tell the truth, I got up to pee and just turned on my computer for giggles and see if I had a shot.  Yeah...right.     Anyway. to the matter at hand, which ep do I want to vote for?  Seeing Rarity's and Squeaky Belle's relationship development in Sisterhooves Social was very touching and entertaining.  But I have to pull the lever for At the Gala, Prince Blueblood being a jerk, The Pony Pokey, Applejack's sales pitches, Twilight's hope for alone time with the princess, RD's crazy stunts to get noticed, and "You're going to LOVE ME!!!"

Sisterhooves, sorry. But I'm voting the Best Night Ever, it had all of the Mane 6 singing plus Rainbow Dash's cute voice cracks.

Plus, I did really enjoy Pinkie Pie's song that described how all of them were spending their time.

I vote for The Best Night Ever, first of all, amazing song, Fluttershys most memorable moment, Pinkie being adorable, The dresses, this episode is just simply wonderful.

 

Sisterhooves Social was a wonderful and sweet episode, and with Sweetie Belle making the really crappy food, but, it still isn't in my top 10 favorite MLP episodes of all time.

The Final Four!  February Madness!  This is where they separate the men from the boys- or rather, the stallions from the colts! 

 

Sonic Rainboom was a great episode.  A lot of world building with the introduction of Cloudsdale, Some great development for Rainbow Dash, and a pretty spectacular moment when she hit the titular moment.  Fluttershy was great in this too, with one of her most iconic moments in the cold open. 

 

But... this is Return of Harmony we're talking about here.  This is the episode where they pulled out all the stops and everything clicked.  The humor, the animation, the little character moments, all of them were just done so well in this episode.  The Mane 6 were discorded!  The Elements of Harmony were defeated!  Twilight was about to leave Ponyvile!  Chocolate rain!  Big Macindog!  Buffaloes in tutus!  Human Sacrifice!  Dogs and cats living togeth- oops, wrong franchise. 

 

But then the letters from Celestia return, and things start to get awesome.  Twilight gets re-inspired, the mane 6 get un-discorded, we have that great chase after Rainbow Dash with FLuttershy pulling the balloon, the defeat of Discord, and one giant homage to the ending of Star Wars Episode IV. 

 

Sonic Rainboom was very good, but Return of Harmony Part 2 is the best in the series.

Really hard to vote for this one. Darn you! Joking, but anyway I vote for Too Many Pinkie Pies pretty funny and random for a Pinkie Pie episode. I liked the Best Night Ever for the singing and everything that was going on, but I'm a sucker for randomness.

I had to go with Too Many Pinkie Pies also, was rewatching it last night and it was just relentless fun. I do like Best Night Ever a lot but it wasn't quite as memorable IMO.
