Flame tried to keep up with the others but slowed behind a little. He groaned and spread his wings.

He made a rather sloppy landing next to Discharge and stared at the chariot. "What do you think did this ?" He asked, not taking his eyes off the mangled chariot.

(OOC is there any blood or trails around the chariot?)

((We're not quite close enough to tell yet. At least we weren't.))

@@MagicalStarRain

Discharge heard the ponies behind him calling, most prominently Lost Knowledge. He suddenly flared his wings to slow himself down as he skidded to a halt just a few feet shy of the chariot. He stopped dead still and turned back, seeing Night Song flying to him, the fog parting in her wake. "Hold up Night Song! Something's off...there's no bodies." He turned back to the carriage and gingerly started making his way over, being cautious of the surroundings as he approached.

He stood on his hind legs and leaned forwards on the chariot, getting a look over the whole thing. "No bodies...no blood, and no tracks other than the chariot wheels...what's going on here?" It was around this point when he heard a deep rumbling coming from further in the forest. He couldn't see any shadows, and he only heard the one rumble.

"Stay on your guard...I dont think we are alone after all..." he warned the others.

(OOC: Ah. Seems like I misread things then. I thought we are already close enough )

No blood, no tracks, torn seats. Whatever it was that attacked the Chariot was surely a clean eater. Either that, or a group of bandits that used some kind of sleep charm, but that couldn't explain the dent on the chariot. Maybe something big smashed itself to the carriage and the Royal Guards were forced to abandon it?

@,

The rumble made Maroon's fur stood on its end. He turned around to give his back to the chariot, eyes scanning the tree lines. He trotted backward slowly to the carriage. "Is there anything left in the carriage? Be it weapons or maybe some supplies we can use later," he asked to Ardent.

((I dont really suppose it matters to be honest, I probably didn't make it clear enough where we where. I don't think I even thought about it really.))

Discharge looked at Maroon, before hopping over the chariot and looking for any signs of any compartments or anything like that. He tried lifting the seats, nothing - but there were distinct claw marks on the back, he checked the floor, nope. He hopped off and looked under the carriage - there was a key attached to a small chain, he quickly grabbed it with his mouth - "only this key...but no lock anywhere..." he then tucked the key into one of the pockets on his jacket.

The deep rumble came again, this time louder, and more of a roar than a rumble.

"Well...whatever that is, it definitely knows we're here..."

Quip sighed and pulled out a grenade. "Oh please, nothing like what happened to Aqua will happen to us here. We killed that timberwolf for good, and we don't even know whats out here yet. And if i know one thing, Timberwolves don't sound like that" he said to Chatty. He was starting to get irritated by the red pegasus.

There was a sudden silence that fell over the group, and the air stood still. This silence was followed abruptly by a tremendous thumping of the ground, in a pattern that was not dissimilar to something running...

Discharge's eyes darted around back and forth, looking in the direction of the noise for any signs of movement - but he could't see a thing. Then, as if on queue, the chariot was hit by something large, causing it to rock violently, despite the fact it was only on one wheel. Turning around, Discharge saw the unmistakable shape of a rather large, and presumably annoyed Manticore!

Discharge leaped out the way and rolled along the path, ending up on his feet and brandishing his Kukri "How the hell did we not see something that size coming?!"

Goldseek drew his scimitar and got ready to fight. The Manticore was huge. "No idea, but I have a feeling it's not here to help!" He studied the creature. "I've dealt with Manticores before, but this thing is insane. "Take out the wings and it loses some speed, Take out the stinger and it loses some strength. What first?"

Quip laughed at Goldseek's question, and he knew there was only one simple answer. "Hehehe, BOTH!" he announced and pulled out another grenade, and quickly throwing them both in the Manticore's direction, but specifically at the tail and point on its back between the wings. (Does this require two rolls and two flips? Or just one roll and flip for both grenades)

Lost Knowledge saw the manticore and immediately it took him back to his years of studying mythology. He knew enough about them to know that fighting them wasn't a situation you wanted to find yourself in. But of course, there's nothing he can do about that, now.

He assumed his fighting stance and sent his hatchet flying towards the beast's tail, hoping to cut off it's stinger.

Sorry for the long reply, I keep getting distracted.

@

2 Rolls, it's two different attacks after all.

Tail grenade - Roll 5, flip a tail.

The grenade strikes the tail directly, exploding on impact almost exactly at the half way point. The tough chitin armour that plates the entire tail shakes off most of the damage, but suffers a minor crack from the force.

Wing grenade - Roll 4, flip a tail.

The second grenade falls short of its target, hitting the Manitcore in the shoulder as it rears up to take a swipe at Night Song.

Luckily the force of the explosion was enough to stagger the beast, causing it to halt its attack as it regained its balance.

@

Roll 3, Flip a tail.

The hatchet spins toward the base of the stinger, but the tail is flailing around too quickly for an accurate shot. It lands with a thump, sticking in the chitin armour, but not doing any noticeable damage.

Clearly pained and enraged more by the attacks, the Manticore raises its tail high above its head as it runs towards his aggressors and attempts to slam its poisonous stinger into Lost Knowledge. It must have been dazed by the recent explosions so close to its head, as it only manages to scrape the stinger down his shoulder - the wound is a deep one, but no poison has been injected this time.

__

Discharge sidestepped the charging beast, and lunged directly into the air before plummeting back down towards its extended tail, brandishing his kukri straight forwards with hopes to at least disable the appendage.

Roll 2, flip a tail

The kukri hits the tail at an odd angle, and slips out of Discharges grasp sending it falling to the ground at the feet of the Manticore.

It extended a wing and batted Discharge off, sending him back into the air.

Night Song was on the ground observing the wreckage from the destroyed chariot, when she was all a sudden shocked into flying. She turned suddenly and saw the fearful Manticore burst from the shadows! Without further thought, she loaded her bow and fired her arrow, which was aimed for the Manticore's stinger.

Flame quickly grabbed onto his spear but grimaced as pain shot through his leg. "I'm gonna have to let you guys deal with this one." He muttered, grabbing a hoof full of rocks from the forest floor and flying up to a high tree branch. From there, he started throwing rocks at the manticore, trying to distract it so the other's could take it down.

@@MagicalStarRain,

(lol, no one likes that stinger do they?)

Roll 3, flip a head.

The arrow lands in the armour of the tail, just below the stinger. Somehow it managed to dislodge Lost Knowledge's hatchet, causing that too to fall to the floor. The Manticore didn't seem too happy about getting hit from above, and decided it wanted to play the same game - immediately spreading its huge wings and taking to the sky. Staring Night Song in the face for a few seconds, it swiped a massive paw at her and sent her flying towards a nearby tree.

@

(Does that even require a roll?)

The rocks seemed to bounce harmlessly off of the Manticore, doing little to injure or distract him from maiming the group he was focused on.

@,

Night Song felt a dull thud on her neck and the side of her body as she got hit into a tree nearby. Not very used to pain and being the few who didn't get hurt so far, the blunt pain she felt when she hit the was very immense. She was surprised she didn't even faint, though she wobbled alot and could barely keep her vision clear. Shakily, she took to the sky again and fire another arrow, this time it was aimed for the eyes.

Quip frowned when his second bomb didn't exactly hit the intended target. "Looks like this overgrown piece of... something, needs more than just a grenade or two" he said as he pulled out one of his grenade nets. Hopefully it would do more damage than slight irritation.

"Hey, wanna see how i defuse a bomb?" he yelled at the manticore. He then threw the net, aiming for its face. "I throw it in your face!"

(Normally (and by normally, i mean if it lands on his face without error) If the manticore for some reason tried to take the net off, or moved his face a lot, one of the bombs would explode, and then explode the others)

@@MagicalStarRain,

Roll 4, flip a head.

The arrow hits the Manticore in the cheek, causing it to roar in pain and fly back a little, almost crashing into the tree Flame Dancer was sitting in. It was too focused on brushing the arrow out than to actually attack anything.

@,

Roll 6, Flip a head - Critical hit.

The net lands clean on the Manticores face, attaching itself easily to the overly large frame of its skull. As it was already trying to get the arrow off, it caught the net as it brushed its paw across, pulling it and causing it to explode. The grenades around the net exploded in a clockwise direction, sending its head flying in all opposite directions in turn. Crashing to the ground in a heap, it struggled back to its feet. Its tail flailing wildly in every directions and its wings looked battered and broken.

Maroon Sky was undeniably surprised when the manticore made itself known and start wreaking havoc to the group. Most of his teammates' attacks were unsuccessful to stop the rampaging beast, but Quip's creation was proven to be effective. Maroon Sky decided to help and he telekinetically lifted his stone club, swung it in a wide arc as hard as he could straight to the manticore's snout.

(I'm going to assume it's not enchanted, as you didn't state it was)

Roll 6, flip a tail.

The club smashes clean into the freshly burned muzzle of the Manticore, causing it to rear up on its hind legs and cover its mouth with its forelegs. It was visibly distressed now, and it showed.

It roared loudly on its hind legs, forelegs spread wide now as it slammed down onto the floor with all the force it could muster. The ground shook terribly, sending all the ponies tumbling to the ground as the creature berserked. It smashed its paws against the pony who had just flung the club, batting him against the chariot with force. It then turned to look at the bomb expert, lowered its head and began to charge.

Quip was surprised the bomb net didn't rip the manticores head clean off. But less surprised at the aggravation of the beast, and its charging towards Quip. "As if this trip could get any worse..." he mumbled to himself. He didn't want to use any more bombs, but what else could he do? Oh yeah, run. Like what doesn't happen in every single movie. He wasn't just going to wait for somepony to save him.

Quip attempted to scramble out of the way, but to where? Almost everypony but Quip was injured or airborn! He decided the best direction to run, was towards it. Crazy, but he just might be able to slip right under the manticore if he was quick enough. Hopefully causing it to be confused or slowed.

(Can actions like this also be rolled and flipped for?)

@,

(Hmm...I think we will do, yes. 1/2 is bad - 3-6 is good? No point to flip.)

Roll 6

The Manticore leaped into the air as it approached the pony, ready to crush him with all its might - but before it could land or even swing, Quip was gone, darted underneath it and in the Manticores original spot before it could even land. It used the last of its wing strength to soften its landing, before turning back around like a mad bull.

__

Discharge saw his opportunity, and took out his kunai and rope. Throwing it at the Manticore, aiming at its spine and holding tightly onto the rope.

Roll 6, flip a head - Critical

The Kunai pierced the spine of the beast, causing it to flop limply to the ground. Discharge then pulled the rope taught, yanking the kunai back out as he flew down to the ground, kicking the beast in the head with his back legs.

He jumped off its head and rolled along the floor, landing beside Quip as he tucked his kunai away.

"I think it's done" he panted, "who wants the killing blow?" he shouted with a somewhat sadistic tone.

(OOC: Barnacles. I forgot to post that detail.)

Maroon Sky could feel air escaped from his lungs when manticore's massive paw connected with his body and slamming him to the chariot. He grunted in pain as he could feel one of his knees dislocated from its joint. That would be a big trouble. He could only watch as the beast charged to Quip, but luckily the green stallion was nimble enough to get out of the way. The beast finally collapsed on Ardent's last attack.

Maroon Sky slowly rose, trying to test his hooves. His left hind hoof screamed in pain when he out his weight on it. He cursed himself for forgetting which stone club was enchanted and which was not. He telekinetically pulled the offending stone club closer as Ardent asked who want to slay the beast. "If it's still breathing, just leave it alone," Maroon Sky said. "Let other beast in this forest eat it alive."

He flew into the air a few feet - "Is everypony okay? As far as I know nopony died this time..."

He then remembered his Kukri on the ground, instinctively checked his sheathe before flying over to fetch it. He landed next to the chariot as he picked it up, and he noticed Maroon was shaking on his back leg. "You alright?" he asked, clearly not noticing anything other than the visible pain.

@,

"I will survive." Maroon Sky said, trying to bat it off as if it was nothing. It would hinder his movements, that's for sure, but it wouldn't keep him from following the group. While he would be practically a sitting target when something attacked the group, at least his attack methods never required any sharp movements. "Manticores never lives alone, and I'm sure that there are more than one pack Timberwolves in this forest. Sooner or later one of them will find this one and teach it what does it feel like to be a prey."

He latched his unchanted stone club to his saddlebag. "Oh, and if I recalled correctly, you found a key in the chariot. Can you see if there is any names on it?"
