GrooveBroove 680 February 1, 2012 Share February 1, 2012 Considering the generation the way it is now, I would have assumed letting someone know would be much easier. I'm actually surprised that it isn't. But then again none of us are never really in the same shoes when it comes to these kind of things.
Hayden 3 February 1, 2012 Author Share February 1, 2012 Your parents would say that to you? That would be insane. Just explain to them why you love the show. When I explained to my father he didn't call me a fag. He thinks Bronys are nerds though. If those students at your school call you gay for watching MLP FIM, just say that I am not gay and I am a true man for watching MLP FIM and admitting that I am a Brony. If there are students bothering you just ignore them and say I will stay Brony forever and there is nothing you can do about it. I can't believe your parents would call you that! That is a little to extreme there. Teen life is like that.
RainbowDolly 10 February 1, 2012 Share February 1, 2012 I ordered the shirt with the giant close-up of Pinkie Pie's face but it hasn't come yet. I'm praying it will fit since I'm an adult and these things are in junior sizes XP
Kyreth 194 February 1, 2012 Share February 1, 2012 I think it takes time to work the courage for it. At least it does for me. I took me a couple of months to tell any of my friends or family that I was a brony. Took a bit longer after that to start changing my desktop wallpaper and stuff so everyone knew. A week ago I ordered a Pinkie shirt (hasn't arrived yet). It will probably take me a while before I can wear it in public. I can't make signatures. Sooo... yeah

Twi Rubix 726 February 2, 2012 Share February 2, 2012 If you want one without them knowing, try to find a shirt that doesn't seem like its from the show, like the 20% cooler shirt Colton mentioned.

Luna_tic 120 August 3, 2015 Share August 3, 2015 (edited) Well, you know your own parents and how they feel about things. If you come from a loving home, though, you should probably just outright say it and not be ashamed. Just be realistic and say it's entertaining and has relatable, clean storylines. There are so many worse things you could be than a Brony, my dad is probably over it... But who cares about mine? I moved out for college 6 years ago Whateva I do what I want. And I know this post is super old, but somebody can come across it that is having the same issue. I do what I want. Again. Snake 516 September 1, 2015 Share September 1, 2015 who cares if they think you are gay? there is nothing wrong with that. Just tell them you're not. If they don't listen, that their problem, not yours.I say just buy one anyway. Tell your parents it's a huge thing and lots of straight guys watch it. I showed my mom pictures of hot straight guys in brony shirts and thats all it took. Also granted im a female so it was probably a lot easier. signature by; https://mlpforums.com/user/26424-minikirby123/art by; http://pucksterv.deviantart.com/ profile picture by; https://mlpforums.com/user/36534-prophet/

Ponyboat 62 September 3, 2015 Share September 3, 2015 I'm sorry your parents think liking a cartoon solidifies your sexuality. I understand parents can be difficult but if someone calls you gay don't worry. That's not their business. You should just buy it. Maybe be nonchalant about it and they wouldn't look into the design? RavenholmZombie 1,330 September 3, 2015 Share September 3, 2015 (edited) I was buying merch long before (and by "long before" I mean "about a month or so") my family found out. Even though my father would rib me about it, he didn't really care and, to be honest, unless your parents are extremely conservative and firmly believe in Gender Roles (which is unlikely nowadays), they most likely won't care too much if you want an MLP shirt or any Pony merchandise for that matter.
