Drawing Help

Hello, everyone. I've been thinking about drawing ponies and OCs lately, but I have no experience with them whatsoever! I was hoping someone out there would help me out with where I should start in the way of drawing ponies that DON'T look like stick figures... Any ideas?

Hello there! To start off drawing in general, there are several ways you can approach it.  A number of tutorials have been made for just such an occasion and I have included a few for your convenience.  These should help you get started on the basic proportions, shapes and poses that are similar to the show's style so that you can try drawing right away!  You also have a plethora of reference material in the show itself for other poses and expressions, so be sure to make full use of anything you can use.

 

  

 

  

 

  

 

As far as OC design, that is more subjective and not an area of expertise to me.  My main advice is to try not to go overboard with an OC, in both appearance and coloring (unless that is your full intent) as they can turn out a bit gaudy and unappealing.  Stick to colors that make sense and look appealing together.  That simply takes some experimentation to see what works and what does not.

Well really the best way to learn to do it is to just take a pony picture from the show or even an OC take and start drawing the default pose you have for pony creator, and keep drawing that a bit while having it somewhere you can see it if you need to check it, maybe even do some tracing of the drawing to get down different shapes.

 

But really the best way to learn is to keep practicing, seriously if I can get to the point where I am today from my first pony pictures(Which trust me where ugly) then I imagine anyone more or less can draw atleast decent pony's. Just takes a bunch of practice .

Thank you all so much for the tips and advice (no joke, it's really helpful). I'll start out slow and take things simple. Who knows? Maybe I'll get some things on this site or deviantART!
