Firefly - A drawing of my OC North Light

So I FINALLY drew my OC North Light on my own for once! I've always struggled, as one of my main motivations when putting effort into drawings is that it's for someone else!

This was technically no different, as someone requested OCs (More specifically; the Cutie Art Crusaders demanded OCs for their OC-episode), so I finally got a second reason to make it~

 

I got the idea while listening to 'Fireflies' by Owl City, and thought this kind of scenery/scene would fit 'im (North) perfectly~

So what do you think? I never seem to be able to keep to one single style... This is like my 3rd new style in like 10 drawings!

 

I'm open for ideas and critique - I'd love to hear things that may help me in becoming better!

Omg that is so beautiful and cute :D. Your Oc looks so cute :) and the little firefly hes looking at makes it all the more awesome!

 

Not to mention the art style is very nice looking to :).

Thanks! It makes all the hours I've put into it worth it... I feel like I might be a little bit too fresh in drawing for something as detailed as this, as I'm really slow... But I guess I'll pick up in speed eventually if I draw more~

Eh who cares it would probably take me like 300 hours to even get close to this :P, heck i probably couldn't do this even then.

 

The fact you can do it at all is great :). Besides practice makes perfect :).

 

And glad I put a smile on your face :D.

D'AWWWW so adorable! Great drawing, he is so cute :) I like his cutie mark too

 

The background is really well done also :D And so are his eyes!

I for some reason always start making almost every detail on the eyes before doing anything else... Looks kinda weird when everything else later on is just plain, and the eyes stick out quite a bit!

As soon as I saw this I thought it was gonna have to something with the show Firefly. (I'm a massive Browncoat. XD)

I have only heard a TINY bit about that show... Or whatever it is... Though what I have heard is mostly good... I might have to take a peek at that one day...

Dat hair texturing..  :o  I can see the painstaking brush strokes that were involved, I've spent enough time in SAI to know how tedious that can get ^_^  Great job! :3

Wait, what? The mane-texture? That stuff took me like a maximum of 10-15 minutes, and was probably one of the easiest parts for me to fix~ What really takes time for me would be outlining...

It's the other way round for me. :blush:  I was originally a vector artist before going into raster, so outlining always come naturally after hours of practice in Illustrator. It's the fills and textures that stump me because there's no provision for that (or at least, no easy one) in vector, the fills are always a solid colour :P

Signature to come soon. I think. Yeah. Once I think up a nice one. Or when someone makes one for me. Damn it. I need more time to draw and animate poni. >_<

Well there's always the debate of whether to use black lines or follow the colour of the coat but in a darker shade. Personally I like either way :P

Well, since I'm really slow at outlines and stuff, and you're not, then I guess you could make an outline based on your own stuff and/or a sketch of mine, and then I fix details and/or colours that you don't add yourself... Not sure, whatever works for thee, I guess~
