Pets roles in Equestria Girls

Okay by now I think most of us have heard about the Spike is a dog rumor.  Regardless of what this means for Spike as a character it brings to mind something else.  What about the other pets?  I mean all of the real pets minus possibly Gummy are pretty realistic as far as pets go in cartoons.  But I am concerned that the whole Spike as a dog thing might throw a wrench into them.  If they do appear do you think the creators will make the apparent mistake of making them talk like Spike or rather have Spike be an exception?  Do you think they just won't appear at all?  Final option is the belief that the Spike is a dog rumor is just that a well founded rumor?

They might appear in some sort of cameo appearances. That or they migh have pets that represent the pets we used to know.

I don't really know right now. I'm drawing a blank on this pet concept.

Well, most of them, I wouldn't see a need to change the pets. Dogs, cats, tortoises and rabbits are normal pets. Owls and alligators, however, that's a little weird, and if they include the pets, I dunno if they're just gonna leave 'em or if they'd change them. Or if they'd just not include pets at all.

 

As for Spike being a dog? I think that's really unfair to Spike. Sure he's a different species than the mane six in MLP, but he's an actual functioning character in the show. He speaks and interacts with all the others, he's in almost every episode and he's a main character. I've always thought of him as the honorary 7th to the mane six. To make him a dog just seems like a serious demotion. Granted, we don't even know if that's going to happen yet or not, but I'd really like not to see it happen, if that's what they were originally thinking.

I guess the pet roles are a possibility since the spinoff is in the setting of high school. It doesn't matter to me, it wouldn't be a spinoff or a show without some pets.

I agree that Spike has an important role and shouldn't be a dog, I mean-  he is one of the main characters. what would he even look like as a dog.

Spike should not be a dog. He is one of the main characters in the show- heck, he even has his own episodes - and does not deserve to be demoted to a pet.

Spike is seen as a main character in the show and is treated as an individual. I think it's pretty dumb to make him a dog, of all things. 

As for the other animals, they'll probably appear on occasion.

Spike should totally not be a dog. I can see him being characterized as maybe Twilight Sparkle's younger brother or just younger friend but definitely not a pet. All of the other pets will probably stay the same. Twilight could still have Owliscious but maybe the writers will adapt his character to a parrot or something... or even just keep him as an owl! As for Gummy, the writers could turn him into a pet lizard or something like that so that he would be more socially acceptable.

I totally agree, coffee. He needs to be in the show, but not a dog.  He doesn't deserve to be a dog. Would a dog be able to talk (beside the diamond dogs. They are mutated dogs), would a dog have its own episode, would it have someone to look up to, would a dog have 6 loving friends?! NO!!

Well, they could find a way to keep him special, I'm sure. He could be a magical talking dragon dog, or something like that. Corny I know...

I think you guys might appreciate this though: 

 

It'd be pretty cool if they made him a talking lizard or something. But, when you think of merchandise, most little girls would probably want to get a cuddly plush dog-Spike. 

 

Besides, the talking dog in Family Guy seems to be fairly equal to the rest of the cast, but I'm not sure since I haven't seen much of that show. And then there's Jake from Adventure Time. So it's not like dogs can't be important characters in cartoons.

I honestly don't think they'll highlight them at any point of the show, only Spike since he's pretty much Celestia's messenger and has a bigger role. But I guess maybe they'll feature the pets SOMETIMES... but really I don't think they'll focus on them too much. It would be kinda pointless, but I guess we'll see them in the background maybe? 

 

But I kinda don't like Spike being a dog, he might as well be human with the rest of the mane six. After all, he acts pretty human in Equestria already. So it would make sense to have him as a human like the ponies.

I have to agree with most people on this spike plays an important part in the show and does not to be a dog! if they make him a dog they should at least make him talk or something. I think he should be like twilights little brother or friend, not dog

Spike is as intelligent as the mane 6 are so surely it would have made more sense for him to be a young boy as opposed to a dog. But  then again we are talking about a Hasbro creation here so they probably didnt put that much thought into it.
