I...am....confused. Is this gonna be a series type of thing with seasons and all or is it gonna be just a one episode special type? I had a conversation with a friend of mine all day and we ended up giving up on figuring it out. So can someone explain.

According to my resources, it's going to be a movie. However, none of it is actually backed up with evidence. We'll have to wait for more news.

I really hope for Hasbro's own good, that they are trolling about this whole Equestria Girls thing.... are they really serious about it ? :/

Equestria Girls is a series. The movie is a separate deal. I'm hoping that the movie is a G4 MLP movie myself. Maybe it will be the long awaited Celestia and Luna back story. Now that would be something worth watching!

Definitely, I have always been a huge fan of Luna so anything with her in it is going to make my inner fanboy very happy and we haven't really seen much of Celestia outside of her rolls as ruler or teacher so seeing a bit more of Celestia the pony would be great.

Equestrian Girls is a completely new series.

The movie is something seperate. When exactly the movie will be places in the timeline of the show is unknown. The movie can take place in between season, before two episodes, etc. And no this isn't a farfetched idea. Some movie about a series take place in between the series itself.

We also can assume that the movie can take place before the series as well.

 

On thing in curious is how they will handle the movie. Will they treat it like a two-parter (only longer obviously) where there is a serious situation, or will it just be a fun movie.

I'd assume that they'd go the serious situation route. If you've got ninety-ish minutes to fill with pony, there'd better be a plot weighty enough to use all that. So this is where you dial everything up the elevens because, heck, who knows if there will ever be a MLP movie again?

 

Otherwise...what? Do we watch Rainbow Dash at Wonderbolts camp? Do we have a Rashoman-type story where the ponies try to remember what happened at one of Pinkie's parties? Do the CMC get their cutie-marks? Does Twilight get Princess training?

I'm hoping it's like My Little Pony G2 perfected. You know that slice of life show with ponies. It wasn't bad but good writing and modern sensibilities could take this idea and make it work in it's own right. It may not be FiM good but I think Hasbro is smart enough now to know that devolving it's characters to brainless idiots like G3. They've seen what works with G4 and any smart business sticks with what works and avoids what didn't.
