Personally, I'm familiar with the whole "zombie apocalypse" thing, but in my life I have never seen anything quite as bloody as 28 Days/Weeks Later. When I say that I'm familiar with the zombie apocalypse aspect of life, I've played COD Zombies on World At War, Black Ops and Blops II, and they never came as close to the level of intensity that 28 Days/Weeks Later showed. In COD, you've got four guys in different maps armed with a vast array of weapons, explosives and perks. However in 28 Days/Weeks Later, you got like either a single guy or a group of guys traversing totally empty cities wreathed with scenes of destruction and carnage, racing to get away from the vast majority of infected, ravenous, maniacal killing machines that were once innocent, good humans, all bitten and injected with saliva that does intersperse with their bloodstream, turning them into animalistic, bloodthirsty zombies. In fact, you couldn't even call them zombies. They were not killed, just bitten. Hell, as we saw in 28 Days Later even a drop of blood in the eye can affect you. For me, this was the introduction to the genre of a zombie apocalypse. No government, no army, no police, nobody. Even those who protect and serve were turned into killers. And that in itself spells just how tragic the situation was in those films. Even the soldiers were not safe from infection.

Anyway, enough from me. Share your experiences of the movies, and do tell how you felt. I'm sure you shared the same emotions I felt: shock, horror, pity, and the never-ending realization that with the Rage virus running loose throughout the UK, there was no force except starvation that could stop it, and unfortunately the soldiers (Jim, Selena and Hannah included) would not survive past the infected's starvation.

Yes, I'm quite familiar with 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later. While I like both movies, I'm much more fond of 28 Days Later, although I haven't seen Weeks in quite some time so perhaps it's time to give it another watching to rethink my feelings about it.

Regardless, they are both excellent movies and are some of my favorite zombie films. The first one is just excellent, and is a really frightening movie that feels hopeless for most of the movie but ends on a very good note, which I actually like; it's not very often that a zombie movie ends on a high note.

Then of course we have 28 Weeks Later, which shows that the Rage virus is far from done with its reign of terror. Like I said, been a while since I've seen it, so I can't really talk much about it.

I have noticed that there's a lot of eye puncturing in these movies though... you're definitely right about these movies being gory and horrific!

Excellent topic, it gets the Rainblow Hash Seal of Approval!

If you like 28 Days Later, Danny Boyle did a movie called Sunshine that also has Cillian Murphy in it. Great Sci-Fi movie; shame many have never heard of it outside of the UK.

There no joking it when both films go over the top with the death and killing and blood and gore......in fact the infected even vomited blood before trying to kill again. It seems to be their work cycle: Kill, kill, puke up blood and then kill again. Meanwhile, both films have given me inspiration to build forge maps in Halo 4 based on various scenes in both movies. The first one I'm making is the mansion defence scene, but first I have to find a map suitable to create a likeness of that scene. Any ideas?

Oh lord, I have no idea how you're going to replicate that mansion. I know that that sounds like a great way to play an Infection game, but I don't know how you'd replicate it. Perhaps you should rewatch 28 Days Later and examine the layout of the mansion in order to recreate.

As for the actual pieces you should use to recreate it, I'm not too sure about that.

Circadian, I have seen Sunshine and it is indeed an excellent movie. And I'm from outside the UK! I thought it was more widespread outside of the UK, but perhaps not...

I have seen 28 Days Later but I didn't see 28 Weeks Later. I know both of them are very good zombie movies, it shows you that with a zombie apocalypse. No government, No police, and nothing in sight. It's better to keep your instincts and ready to fight the undead.

Relax! I don't intend to proper recreate the mansion. All I gotta do is find some kind of fortress, fortify it and boom! The stage is set, the carnage begins.............

Ha ha, guess I misinterpreted how serious you were about recreating that mansion!

Well, that sounds good too, just make sure that it's balanced. Nothing worse than an unbalanced map...

Oh for definite! In fact I used the map Ravine, fortified the Forerunner structure with sandbags, machine guns, threw some crates and vehicles around, then topped the deal off with some barricades at the entrances, flimsy or otherwise. I chose not to use landmines seeing as if I did, well things would just be unfair. Stating whatever I missed would be greatly appreciated

Hmm...

Sounds good for now, although I'd actually have to play it to know if it's truly balanced. You should try playing a match or two on it so you can get a feel for how the balance works out and redesign it from there. I'll admit, I haven't played Halo in a while, so I can't personally help you with the testing unfortunately.

Anyway, to return to the point nothing could have ever topped what I saw in those two films. To make matters worse, the Rage virus seems to have made its way into Ponyville in at least two FiMfics that I read yesterday (one of which had Celestia as the pony responsible for unleashing the Rage virus on Ponyville in the first place). Refuse to believe me all you want, but it's the truth! In that very fanfic, Celestia's intended last resort against the Gryphon army went terribly wrong, and Twilight ends up in two situations: a fight for survival and a discovery of love. If you can guess who won her heart, you win five bits!

I watched maybe the first half hour of 28 Days Later a while back, but I fell asleep. >_>

From what I remember seeing, it is a pretty good and unique zombie movie. I need to see the entire movie soon. I haven't seen 28 Weeks Later.

By the way, the map I designed was commissioned by my group leader. He wanted a map made for snipers and instantly I had the idea after watching 28 Days Later. Because the Halo 4 custom game options are so screwed up, I intend to arm the infected with just energy swords, and to have them sprint towards the barricades before jumping over them and storming the structure, while from above and below the soldiers try to snipe them with great difficulty. No guns except sniper rifles for the soldiers and no guns for the zombies........sounds pretty balanced from the looks of things don't it? And to up the stakes a bit more, there is absolutely no respawning for either side. The match will go on until all the players on either side are killed. Begin now Armageddon......the end is nigh >:)

Oh wow, that sounds really freaking awesome! You should totally post a video of you guys playing on it if you can, I really gotta see how this turns out. Sounds like some good ol' fashioned infection chaos that sure to present a fun challenge for everyone.

About that, I've had an idea. Because I don't have a vidcam, I'm going to try to import the video of the gameplay from my hard drive to my USB and then upload it from there to Youtube. Hope it works, and I hope I'm the first person on Earth to have tried it

Eh, you're probably not the first to try that, but I can tell you with certainty that no one I know has tried that, nor have I myself.

Good luck with that though; here's keeping my hooves crossed that it works!

There weren't enough guys online to do a full game, but I tried it with a friend, and despite a few minor bugs (namely the game loadouts and respawning system) the game works well enough. He gave me advice to give the snipers unlimited ammo and to get more guys to be the infected, as there were less soldiers than what the infected numbered in the movie. Of course, I took it into account and right now I'm trying to think of ways to configure the map a little more. For example, the infected's spawn point is badly exposed, so I'm gonna have to close it off. blush.png

Other than that though, it seems to work really well. If only there were a special fx that could match the atmosphere in the movie........anyway, here's hoping! biggrin.png

Well the fact that you didn't have enough people to do a full game is too bad, but it's awesome that you managed to at least try out the map! Why did he suggest unlimited ammo for the snipers? I guess it's a balance issue or something, but did he give a reason?

And yeah, leaving the infected completely exposed when they spawn is a bad idea, but at least you know about it and can now fix it.

That would be really awesome if there were special FX like background infected moans or something, that would really set the mood.

Overall, I'd say this sounds awesome! With some more tweaking, this map could be even more epic.

The 28 Days/Weeks Later films are a great reminder to us that zombie apocalypses won't be kick-ass with machine guns, it'd be horrifying. Both films have a unique reason to like them; the first film gave us fantastic jump scares and eerie atmosphere, the second film gave us great emotional developments and ethical discussion value.

I still think the second film is way too dark. That scene where Don \crushes his wife's eyeballs with his thumbs\ is worse than any Saw scene. And when you think about what Tammy will have to live with - \losing her mother, then regaining her only to lose her again, then having to shoot her own dad\They didn't just step up the last film, they gave it a jet pack.

Ha ha, the eye gouging thing really does get to me in both movies. I'm not one to usually shy away from violence in media, but the eye gouging scenes are always the worst, both the one from the first film and the second film.

And I completely agree on your assessment of the movies! The 28 Days/Weeks Later films have always been appealing to me because they set themselves apart from other zombie movies.

Both films stand apart from your typical zombie films as they depict a nation fallen to disease, with no army to combat the infected, and no police to protect the survivors.......why? Because they too were infected. It just goes to show that no man-made weapon in existence can stop a full blown horde, especially when that horde is comprised of ravenous, mindless animals hell-bent on tearing flesh from bone and causing general havoc with their every stampeding step, animalistic screech and murderous killing methods.
