Dave (RayFriedh) 246 April 5, 2013 Share April 5, 2013 (edited) Okay, there's one thing about this fandom- no, about people that is really, really bothering me. People are telling me that they wish they could draw, that they wish that they had the talent to draw. Guys, you don't need natural talent in order to draw ponies. It really hurts me to see people say that they want to draw and they say that they just can't. One reason, is because it's not true. You aren't born with the talent to draw. Like anything, you have to put time and dedication into what you want to do in order to become better. This is the main thing anyone needs in order to become better in whatever they want to do- and this includes artwork. ANOTHER thing that does help is support, such as constructive criticism, tips, or any friends that support your delving into art. This thread is made to give all you newbies and experts another type of support. That is, very useful guides and tips here that any of you could use in order to improve in your FiM artwork, and maybe other artwork. I sincerely hope that these links will help anyone in need of them. If you've found any other guide that you think might belong on this here list, do not hesitate to contact me over Skype, PM, or DA. Now, without further ado, here are a few of the treasures I've found across the internet. ------------------------------------------------------------------ -INTRODUCTORY ARTICLES- -Thanks to MLPdrawingschool!- Don't Panic: http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/nxdpy/dont_panic_a_drawing_guide_from_beginner_to/ How to use References: http://viwrastupr.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-1-Understanding-references-347629747 Making Art, a Process Guide: http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/o6iw6/making_art_a_process_guide_todays_method/ Keys to Success in Art: http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/suh5i/the_keys_to_success_in_art/ -SKETCHING- Undersketching and Refinement (MLPdrawingschool) http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/s61m1/undersketching_and_refinement_posebuilding_in/ -ANATOMY- Dshou's Anatomy Study: http://dshou.deviantart.com/art/MLP-Basic-Anatomy-Study-1-Basics-317485624 Pony Anatomy Study by VertreV: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7bS-XNQmBnk/TeX7B0XqZMI/AAAAAAAAFTE/AWktwZT1XAA/s1600/Clipboard01.jpg Common Anatomy Errors (MLPdrawingschool) http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/zhek6/lesson_5_common_anatomy_errors/ Pony Anatomy Lesson (MLPdrawingschool) http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/zulhs/thursday_weekly_lesson_6_pony_anatomy/ -LEGS- Dshou's Leg Studies: http://dshou.deviantart.com/art/MLP-Basic-Anatomy-Study-2-Front-Legs-317774146 (Part two): http://dshou.deviantart.com/art/MLP-Basic-Anatomy-Study-3-Hind-Legs-317880714 -GENERAL GUIDES- Drawponies' Con Panel: Dragoart Tutorial: http://www.dragoart.com/tuts/8102/1/1/how-to-draw-my-little-pony,-friendship-is-magic-style.htm -OTHER SPECIFIC GUIDES- MLPdrawingschool's Tutorial on Proportions: http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/prx47/rabbis_guide_to_the_perplexed_or_how_to_measure/ Viwrastupr's Tutorial on Proportions: http://viwrastupr.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-2-Measuring-and-comparing-349639929 Why485's Clothing Tutorial: http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9195/ponyclothesstudy.png Tutorial on Hair (MLPdrawingschool) http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/rklhh/hair_it_is_less_than_you_think/ Identifying Compositional Awkwardness (MLPdrawingschool): http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/rb7wf/ Basic Shading Tutorial (MLPdrawingschool): http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPdrawingschool/comments/z3bne/thursday_weekly_lesson_4_basic_pony_shading_and/ -CRITICISM- /Giving and Receiving Criticism./ Leave it to MLPdrawingschool to make these! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 777 May 19, 2013 Share May 19, 2013 (edited) I'm glad and thankful that you've taken the time to create this Dave. I was thinking about creating a thread just like this, but now that I found this lovely little topic you've saved me all the work. Not to mention that you've also given me some new sites for me to explore and suggest to other fellow users whom are just beginning, or struggling, in the art of drawing. Indeed, this thread is incredible and it's a shame that not many budding artists have seen this as of yet. My thanks good sir, I'll be sure to recommend fellow artists to this topic Edited May 19, 2013 by Accellerant 1 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ If you do not GO after what you want, you'll never have it. Bucky McGillyCuddy 956 May 19, 2013 Share May 19, 2013 I was thinking earlier this week that a Drawing Reference thread would be kick ass to have. That way i don't have to venture to the far corners of the web all the time for references. Plus people could post whatever handy things they have all in one place. If you'd be so kind as to check out some of my drawings, I would really appreciate feedback. http://mlpforums.com/topic/82464-feedback-is-magic/?hl=feedback+is+magic#entry2127254 http://mlpforums.com/topic/82871-what-happens-when-a-pony-fights-a-griffin/?p=2178588
Sky Warden 2,243 May 19, 2013 Share May 19, 2013 This thread is marked as useful. Recently I decided to learn how to draw ponies, and found some difficulties (mostly because of my laziness) to find tutorials. Suddenly, this thread. Thank you so much. Pinkeh asked me to put this here. Just another What Do You Think About Me stuff.
Randomfacts137 61 July 18, 2013 Share July 18, 2013 I completely agree with you that you need to work at it. I am slowly, but surely, growing to be a better drawer. Your thread, however, will help me speed up this process.
