Depends.

I assume the AO and timeframe is unlimited?

Massive burst with delay turns into a huge advantage in that.

 

Only if the area of operations is limited and you can hide/tank/infinitely support yourself, does DoT become an advantage.

To be far, the massive damage burst cost a whole lot of gold for mana recovery potion, but guaranteed a one-shot kill. The area attack was rather manageable mana-wise and able to take down much more target in a time, but the whole pack of mobs can be rather frightening.

 

Can't really pick someone else to tank for me, everyone I know was either dps class or the useless-but-fun one
