First Drawing

Hello everypony.  I just drew my first character (Big Macintosh) and would like to know what everyone thinks.  Constructive criticism and any tips on improving my drawing are appreciated.

You've got the proportion right, and he's got that innocent semi-fatherly feel that the original Big Mac has; so plus points for that.

 

One criticism is the eye. You've tried to copy the glare from the original Big Mac by leaving it uncoloured. But make sure that the green still creates a tangible iris; you need to circle it all the way around, rather than just colouring the bottom of the eyeball.

Whatever you colored with, go easy on it. You don't need to press to hard. This made his expression on his face hard to read. Just color lighter with w/e you used, and you should have a better result.

Thanks.  It started out as a sketch, but I decided to color it.  I used oil pastels, which I've never actually used before.  I'll post the sketch when I find it.

Sorry, I misvoted - meant for "meh", clicked bad instead! You really got the personality and shape of Big Mac well, in a pleasingly simple way. But there are little problems - his neck/head (everything above that brown thingy he wears) feels detached from the rest of the body - if it were moved over to the right so his neck closer to being above the front leg, that would fix it. His body also seems long too, but moving the neck/head over would eliminate that problem I know it's not something you can really fix for this drawing in particular, but maybe just something to keep in mind for the future?

Hello I just redrew the the thing because I couldn't find the file in the depths of my PC.  Here is my sketch, same requests as above.

I just realized I missed a leg.  Hold on, let me get that.  It'll be quick.  *cue jeapardy music*   done  anyone have any sketching tips? Thanks again.
