Now let me get one thing straight here. I'm very much for the free market. Whoever can make the best product gets to stay in business, and if you can't compete, you loose the business and you can start again. Yadda yadda I don't want to make this a political discussion! My fear comes from the fact that, according to Lauren Faust and "Heartswarmings Eve" the earth pony population are the caretakers of the land and raw resources. It's what they do just like how the pegasi control the weather. Now here come Flim and Flam with this new invention that can make quality cider at a factory rate. Those guys were jerks who wanted to extort the Apple family, but that invention of theirs isn't a bad thing economically! What I'm worried about, is that if Unicorns can make a machine that allows them to do with their magic what the earth ponies do. What happens to the earth ponies?! It is literal Social Darwinism! An entire sub-species could become obsolete!

Ah good point! It just accord to me that Flim and Flam's machine worked but it still needed the actual apples. BINGO! The unicorn's can make the machinery while the earth ponies refine the raw materials. The Pegasi meanwhile, provide solar and wind power through selective cloud control . . . Oh snap! And don't forget Earth Ponies' raw strength. While Pegasi got lighter frame to allows high-altitude flying and Unicorn being all-round frail, I'm pretty sure Earth Ponies got much more bulk inside their gene.

Well, I wouldn't call unicorns or pegasi frail exactly. Rainbow Dash is almost indestructible and Rarity was able to carry a boulder twice her size with only a bit of difficulty.

I would agree, but you can't apply Darwinism to an intelligent species. ( Look at all the hereditary diseases that still exist, if we as a human species wouldn't be intelligent or not advanced enough those would have died out, to an extent. )

I guess that makes sense. Normally I'm opposed to government intervention in business, but both because it's matter of the population's security and, as mentioned, they're benevolent goddesses I make a notable exception. (What would their system be called? Confederate Theocracy?)

Actually, I don't really see how this makes a sub-species obsolete...

 

The Earth ponies will just have to learn to do things like run business, or get any other job besides farming. If you look at modern society today, farming is only a very tiny portion of the economy, the same thing will just have to happen in MLP.

 

IRL, there was massive growing pains when people had to adapt to this, but with a benign, wise monarch like Celestia, things should go much smoother. Lol, in truth, a benign, wise monarchy is the best form of government. The only issue is IRL, within a single generation it almost always becomes a malicious, unwise monarchy, which is the absolute worst...

 

But MLP gets around this problem because Celestia is immortal, or something close to it...

 

Anyways, Flim Flam almost made a good deal, with using their machine and splitting the earnings. The only issue is, how the earnings were split was unfair. If they'd negotiated some more, they could've probably got a great deal, both made lots of money, and Ponyvillians gotten all the apple cider they wanted. Everyone would've been happy.

 

In fact, deal #2: Buy the apples from us and use the machine to make cider, that would've worked for everyone, too.

 

In both cases, because the machine reduced the amount of labor required for X amount of product, they could've charged less per drink and still earned more money because of far more drinks. Win-win.

 

 

But the issue was that they decided on government intervention - whoever wins this competition earns all rights to produce for Ponyville - that's what the issue was.

 

Flim Flam didn't invent the apple. Just the apple cider [machine].

It was also far less intellectually backed. You're right about Celestia. I once or twice cited how, according to the Book of Revelations, God will rule the world on Earth and how Equestria might resemble something like that because Celestia essentially IS God. Personally I am a big fan of freaking out and jumping to conclusions. I do it all the time.

 

Please do not listen to the voices of reason here. Sure they may make sense, but wheres the fun in that?

 

What we need to do is start a "Save the Earth Ponies" program.

 

1) Get a massive petition to asking Hasbro not to write the earth ponies out of the show. they may go, "WTF?!" and write a letter back saying there is no intent to write any ponies out of the show.

 

2) Then you counter with a show by show count of the dwinding numbers of ponies per epoisode. Show photo-shopped pictures of Pinky Pie and Applejack with Unicorn horns. Start a You Tube campaign...totally bogus of course...

 

3) Hasbro makes a press release that they are not reducing the number of earth ponies on the show.

 

4) You know you got them now. Keep up the pressure, don't stop.

 

5) An episode addressing the issue is made and rushed to air. You, or rather paranoia wins!
