Let's not play the blame game on this one. It's been stated at least a few times in this thread already that both sides have good points and both sides need to chill.

 

But I don't even think that anyone on the pro-EqG side is saying, "Like this or else." At least, I haven't seen anything like that yet. Not in this thread and not in any of the others I have visited.

 

The pro-EqG people ARE saying, "Give it a chance, you might like it and it might be good!" That doesn't sound like a threat.

 

I personally think that the haters are doing a disservice to themselves by judging it before they watch it. I understand the skepticism and uncertainty about the quality of this movie, but I fail to see how telling yourself and others, "This movie is going to be donkey balls soaked in skunk shit" or whatever, before seeing it, is helpful. I mean, say that all you want, but I am just a believer in having a positive outlook, and having a positive outlook has helped me in many ways in life, and not just about movies or other forms of entertainment.

I went through my own spazz-out yesterday, but I'm over it. And frankly, I don't see why we care at this point in time. I was discussing it with my brother and he said that he's absolutely amazed that the entire fandom has split itself so thoroughly.

This video is very disrespectful to the creators of the show,  Honestly it's not the end of the world, your talking down to the fandom, and your calling something terrible when it's not even released yet.  Humans don't have colored skin, so what.  The look of the show is actually one of the things that I love about it.  How can you call Doug better then something you don't know will be terrible. (DOug was awesome)  Bratz is entirely different as they are just popular and that's the only draw.  This will probably (see speculation: which is all we can do) be nothing like that.  It's the personalities of the ponies in a more human form.  Not necessarily humans, but anthro ponies.   So honestly you have talked down to DHX and everyone in the fandom that loved the trailer.  You can have your opinions, but when you have to put down people to get it across no one will listen.

You have seriously made a lot of topics on this, I can understand you have your opinion on this but endlessly harping about the same thing over and over and over again can get a bit annoying and just because someone dosen't want to talk about something dosen't mean that they hate and are oppressing you. I am one of the harshest critics of twilicorn on here but even I take a break from it every now and then and try to stay positive, but as for Equestria Girls I seriously don't care. Yes I agree that the high school premise is cliched beyond all belief, the designs look a bit off and the whole crown thing sounds a bit Mary Sueish but I will probably still see the movie because I want to at least see it before I knock it completely and I am not worried that it will bomb because even if does than it will just be another example of a bad spinoff to an otherwise great franchise which is a temporary setback at worst.

You got into this show in the FIRST place because you decided not to let initial thoughts get to you and give it a try. THAT is the oppression Markz0ne is talking about, how every time someone makes a valid complaint it's met with "so what", "it's not the end of the world", "you should give it a chance like FiM" (here's the thing about that last one: giving FiM a chance DOES NOT COST MONEY, besides which myself and most bronies only gave it a shot AFTER it became popular on 4chan and started spreading everywhere else, I don't normally watch children's cartoons in the hopes of finding one I genuinely enjoy, because if there is a great cartoon out there like FiM I WILL HEAR ABOUT IT FROM OTHER BRONIES, and in the same way if reviews of and reactions to EQG are positive, THEN I will give it a chance and spend money on it), and other passive-aggressive side-swiping against those of us not deluded enough to pretend everything's peachy. Liking EQG doesn't mean turning a blind eye to all the things awful about it. There are plenty of movies I adore that I know, rationally, are bad movies. I still like them, but I admit they're bad.

That is not a fact. That is an opinion. I do think that, based on the trailer, it has a chance of being good. You do not have to give it a chance. The pro-EqG people are not FORCING you to give it a chance. It is merely a suggestion.

I am not being blindly optimistic. I like the trailer. There is no obligation for you to see this movie. Not all bronies can even agree on what is a good episode and what isn't. I for one loved Keep Calm and Flutter On and Magical Mystery Cure, but some people hate both with a passion. I don't think that anyone is obligated to like anything from the show.

Except Mark wasn't just making valid complaints. He was throwing in insults and a lot of other arguments that simply don't make any sense.

 

This thread exists because Mark wanted to keep telling his friend that the movie was gonna suck. His friend didn't want to talk about it, and instead of respecting that choice that his friend wanted to make, it threw his friend over the edge and got him angry. This thread was never about a hater being oppressed. It was about shoving an opinion down someone else's throat.

 

You probably came into this thread before Mark took off the screen cap of their argument. So of course the reactions that you are seeing in this thread don't seem to make much sense based off what you currently see in his first post.

So it isn't OK for me or anyone else to believe that the movie might be good, but you are encouraging us to shut our mouths whenever someone insults us? Wow.

 

Final point. Nobody knows what this movie is going to be like!!! Except for what we know about the trailer. And believe it or not, there isn't one correct opinion about how we are supposed to tract yo the trailer.

 

I legitimately enjoyed the trailer. I legitimately believe that it might be a good movie. This is not blind optimism. This is me seeing something that I didn't hate and that I want to go see.

 

But if you legitimately believe that the movie is going to suck, I can't change your mind. I will let you know how the movie turns out after I see it. And if I am wrong about it, then I am wrong.

You know originally this post had a LOT MORE TO SAY ON IT other than these pictures but I felt in the end it wasn't worth it: if Righteous is going to hate on it and then jump on other people for defending it so be it.

 

But I think these 3 pics do a pretty good job of further summarizing why being pricks to others that are trying to keep conversations going as to WHY they are looking forward to EG is a moot point.

I also do not understand one of the arguments that haters keep throwing out there. "It's a high school cliche that is going to be all about fashion!!! It ruins what MLP stands for as a show for girls because Lauren Faust didn't want to rely on stereotypes of girls!"

 

Seriously? Not only does the picture above explain that fashion is part of the regular show that Lauren Faust designed (these pictures are from season 1 when Lauren was an active part of the show), there is NO MENTION of fashion in the EqG trailer.

Again I am going to say this again. Mary Sues does not equal bad writing. I mean from here everyone hates on Mary Sues when actuality they can be good characters if done right. A good example, Charles Dickens Tale of Two Cites "Lucy", is the very definition of a Mary Sue, but yet she is an amazing character and many peoples favorite character. Mary Sues does not equal bad writing.

It looks like we have two different definitions of what a Mary Sue actually is, a Mary Sue is a character that is so unbalanced either in power, personality or both that they serves as little more than the stereotypical wish fulfillment that which the term Mary Sue originated from or become a bland or boring character. The only reasons Celestia cannot be called a Mary Sue for example is because of her role in the story as teacher/ruler and that we haven't seen much of her outside of those roles.

 

The reason why I said the crown thing sounded Mary Sueish is because it approaches dangerously close to stereotypical wish fulfillment territory. Some Twilight Sparkle fans have gotten a bit defensive when I have brought this up and I have said this many times and I will say it again, just because you like a character dosen't mean you have to agree with every direction they take that character. Twiliscael and Yosef Von Uzenvard are two of the biggest Twilight Sparkle fans on here and they have openly criticized twilicorn. When it was first announced she was my second favorite pony and actually became tied with Applejack and Luna for my favorite because even though I hated the idea it did remind me of what I liked about her as a character.

 

Despite this though in the movie Twilight could act like the worst Mary Sue every written and I still wouldn't care because this is just a spinoff that won't affect the main series anyway, but the series change that the crown thing is alluding to (twilicorn) does have an effect on the series. Despite my dislike of that I don't have any other choice than to wait until season 4 and see where that goes.
