I have returned, and this time, with pictures! I just sketched this one in my notebook because I didn't have the time (or effort) to try and do it digitally. Anyway, enjoy! Yep! This is not going to be an everyday sort of thing... I like giving people time to join in and draw and post and whatever else. But to some members, the wait feels ages long (I've received some excited PMs about the next pony). I'm thinking I'll try to do two ponies each week, but if lots of people join up then the frequency of pony changes might need to be lowered to accommodate the large group.

 

You'll all be allowed to post Applejacks even when the reference image has changed. I don't mind if people are experiencing some "lag"

Thank you so much! Yup I just saw the thread and free-handed the drawing (looking at the reference picture of course ) and I think it looks pretty good! It's no replica by any means, but you can at least identify the character. I'm glad you like it!

 

Oh and I would buy some ice cream if I had money

That's the entire point of this thread D:

You're gunna start out as someone who has no idea how to draw properly, and through the, hopefully, multitude of images put out for us to use as reference, end being someone who has quite a bit of knowledge. Really looking to improve? Ask for some tips~ I'm positive people here have some useful advice to give (myself included). We're all here to help one another get better.

 

Plus, 

"Well, at least you've tried" doesn't make the 100 character count :3 and is a bit harsh (in my eyes).

Brohoofing is more like "Good attempt, and at least you decided you will post it even if it isn't of "show quality"."

It isn't that, far from it @Edgeworth1001. The reason why I'm brohoofing you is because you're doing something that a lot of users can't even muster up the courage to do. I spent many days staring at my blank piece of paper, saying to myself that "today's the day I'm going to draw pony!" But every time I stared at that piece of paper with pencil in hand, I made up every excuse in the world to avoid drawing that pony. It literally took me years to muster up the courage to even start drawing and when I did it looked much like what you had.

 

I brohoof'd you because I'm proud of what you've done, it takes courage to draw for the first time. It takes even more strength to take your image and post it online. Please, do not think of it as me being sarcastic and saying "Well, you tried lolol." I want to support you in any way I can, to encourage you to continue drawing and the only way that I can is by brohoofing you friend.

 

Don't be so harsh on yourself, I was for many years and it only stopped me from doing what I enjoy

Well, before the next picture is up, I thought I might try Applejack out one more time. "Cause you know what they say. Three's a charm.

 

I think I improved, but mostly with the body. But that dang snout and mane keep messing me up.

Alright I'm just sitting here with a blank sheet of paper a pencil and my newly bought set of colored pencils ready for the next image. Guess I'll make it a thing to do it both on paper and digitally.

 

Anyway while were waiting. can someone tell me exactly how to shade things? I noticed it adds a lot to the depth but I have ZERO experience shading things like that.

Just remember. We all have to start somewhere right. Unfortunately skill is something that is not given but has to be learned so why not start now you know?!

It's a great improvement compared to your first attempt Blue! You've define AJ much better than your previous attempt and your contour lines are much more stable. Linework is still shaky here and there, but it'll work itself out as you continue to draw. If you want to, spend some time on a new document just making lines. Big ones, small ones, straight ones, curved ones, lines of every kind and shape. The goal is to better familiarize yourself with your digital medium and is a great way to warm up before starting the image itself.

It's a good thing I'm almost finished with one of my sig requests, I'll be able to jump right into the new image~

No, the whether was like I was teleported on the bloody sun after force feeding myself chili peppers and burned toast covered in hot sauce.

 

In non-exaggeration, it was hot.

Thanks! I use a mouse, which is EXTREMELY difficult to make good lines with (I really need a drawing tablet.) Until then, I think I will heed your advice and try drawing some lines in this next hour before the next picture is up.
