This thread is for discussing the new Playstation 4 console that should be arriving in stores this holiday season. It will go for $399.99 USD.

 

I'd like to take a minute to talk about Sony's PS4 content from their E3 presentation, Imo they wrecked Microsoft. Unlike Xbox One, PS4 does not require an internet connection and their are no used game restriction. I think PS4 may win this generation. And like Xbox One, PS4 will come with a 500GB hard drive.

I'm excited for the Playstation 4 I'm glad that Sony are allowing used games and what's even sweater is that you won't need any online authentication to play them. I really like the price of the unit as well 400$/300 euros seems very reasonable to me it looks like the PS4 will be my next gen console of choice .

Only $400?! Wow! I was actually expecting around $900-1000, so if I trade in my PS3 I might actually be able to buy a PS4 for christmas x) I'm totally hyped up for this, The new games they keep showing are just bloody awesome.

Looks like I know which side my money's going to. The PS4 looks much more cutting edge than the One does. Plus there's the exclusives and all the nooks and crannies thrown in as well. And $400 is around £250 for the Brits. Maybe I won't have to break the bank to get the PS4 after all.

 

E: It seems I made a mistake with the GB PS4 price. It's £349 instead.

Same plan for me kinda. I have to say, Xbox One is in a tight spot. Sony is selling a superior, less anti-consumer console for $100 less.

Ever since I sold my Xbox 360 in 2012 I never really cared about Microsoft's consoles to be honest. Even before their new console was announced I wasn't very excited and all the negative points about it being true just guarantee that I am not going to buy it. Works for me considering I never really cared about them in the first place. lol

Wow that was a hilarious video^^. I am WAY too excited for PS4 to come out by the way. I have to say though the design of the system looks rather uninteresting and weird. I still will pick it up though I'm just stating my opinion.

I don't want to sell my ps3 but I still want to get a ps4... This is going to be hard. BTW they are trying to sell the xbox one for 500? thats just outragous! then you have to pay for online, which has to be connected all the time, used game fees and such. That wil end up being way too much. I have an xbox and a ps3 and I have to say the ps3 is much better.

Well, time for me to buy a PS4 for Christmas. I can expect that the two consoles are locking horns, and that Sony tried to put salt in the wounds of Microsoft when it comes to the used games policy.

The exclusives, really do show how both consoles compete with one another. Plus, I have a feeling for buying it.

So, Battlefield 4 will be used wisely when I buy it.

- No block on used games

- New interface

- Gaikai Network will be used as a source of emulation(helps keep cost of the console down and still allows some way to play older games) and background tasks

- Early access to The Elder Scrolls Online

- Exclusive content for Dialbo III

- The Dark Sorcerer

- Killzone: Shadow Fall

-The Order: 1866

- Infamous: Second Son

- More Watch Dogs

- First gameplay of AC4...which Ubisoft still needs to work on

- Indies 

- KH3 announced(This is going to Xbone also)

- FF15 announced(This is going to Xbone also)

- First ever Destiny gameplay

- Knack

- Partnership with Bethesda

- Partnership with Bungie

- Costs $400

-(This is according to their troll video and what they had on the official site) Online play will require PS+ BUT only for multiplayer.(No big deal, benefits outweigh the cons of three less sodas a month)

 

I feel like I am missing a few things, anyone care to chip in?

 

Overall though despite what is surfacing today, Sony easily got my money. 100 less dollars for a superior system is well worth it and lets be honest, for the performance you will be getting out of it, not even a PC for $400 will offer it. Grant a $750+ PC will run better but I would hope so, almost if not more than half the cost of the console.

Don't forget the $500 dollar price! Oh, and the whole "You have to be connected to the interent the whole time". Not to mention having to buy games you already have. Now I'll give them points for Xbox exclusive games.

 

But, Playstation is only $399 dollars. Not to mention you can share your games with people!:

Guess you can call me a playstation fanboy, i will have this system i will buy CoD ghosts, Infamous second son, Mad Max and Destiny looks bad ass hace to get PS+ for multiplayer isn't a big deal since i already had it and had a 360 for a bit

The PS4 is looking really good at the moment. I really like the look of the new Dualshock controller. And I like the design of the console as well. I may not get a PS4 this year, but I will get one!

Sony finally released their full statement on DRM

 

"There's gonna be free-to-play, there's gonna be every potential business model on there, and again, that's up to their relationship with the consumer, what do they think is going to put them in the best fit. We're not going to dictate that, we're gonna give them a platform to publish on. The DRM decision is going to have to be answered by the third parties, it's not something we're going to control, or dictate, or mandate, or implement."

Current articles makes it somewhat confusing by making it seem like the Xbox One but it is  not. This form of DRM is THE EXACT SAME as it is on PS3, except on PS3 it is an online pass. The entire disc will not be restricted, only a part just like current online passes. The only difference is now ALL 1st party will not use DRM. So no more Uncharted online pass. 

It should also be noted this statement was for Activation and EA for the most part. EA will for sure impliment so no change there...Activision...eeeeeeeeeh maybe, but if they wanted to, they would have all ready implemented online pass. 

What you can do under this DRM

-Still play the game

-It will still stay on your profile

-The disc is still useful 

 

So yeah, basically online pass.

Xbox One is a pile of crap. It has so many limitations you will just throw it in the trash in 2 hours.

 

Here's the rundown:

 

Both consoles have expanded on media, but Sony has expanded more by including music while also making sure games are the main focus (Sony +1).

 

With the new Xbox, you do not own your games. You "license" them (technically). This makes it near impossible to share games with friends or let anybody borrow anything. Sony doesn't care about that in the least (Sony +1).

 

The new Xbox will limit your ability to play games due to the fact that it must be connected to the internet once every 24 hours, and once every hour if you're playing with your profile at a friend's house. The PS4 will have no such limitation (Sony +1).

 

The new Xbox will even further limit your ability to play games due to the fact that you MUST install every game you buy to the hard drive before playing it, the PS4 will not have any similar limitation (Sony +1).

 

The new Xbox MUST have the Kinect hooked up to it at all times or it will not operate, the PS4 has no external limitation (Sony +1).

I personally am more inclined to getting a PS4 over the Xbox One. However, I'm getting neither. I actually perfer going over to PC gaming rather than console gaming. PC has its benefits, for example, they don't have a definite console, so you aren't required to actually get a new console every year or so. Computer gaming has good communities as well, like on Steam and the MineCraft community. Steam also is quite customer friendly, and has sales frequently. I personally would recommend you to go to PC gaming, however I propose getting a computer either specified in gaming or at least with a high amount of RAM. My favourite thing about PC gaming is that I can work on projects and play video games without actually leaving my workspace.

I know it would watch me. Didn't say I like it. I's just also an infuence on the Price and one more reason to not buy that darn box-thingy.
