The question is simple enough: what is/are your favorite game(s) in the survival/horror genre? To start, some of my favorites have been Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem and Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

I know this'll probably sound incredibly dated, but my favorite is the first Silent Hill. It ranks up in my top 10 favorite games of all time, and regardless of whether or not today's generation of gamers find the game all that scary, it's still one of the best in my book.

My favorite survival/horror game?  I have to say Amnesia: the dark descent.  The first time I got the game, I didn't bother with playing the original story first; I just went with the custom stories because they're more exciting than the original story.  You never expect things to go your way in a custom story.

I would say The Last of Us. It techincally counts as a survival-horror game since it's genre is basically horror, and the game mainly surrounds the mechanics of crafting weapons, medical kits, and other things that are needed to survive.

There is no doubt it will get to be a GOTY candidate, let alone become the Game of the Year itself.

Naughty Dog has really pushed past the limit this year!

My favorite survival/horror game used to be Resident Evil 4, but most game developing studios are moving away from horror games completely. It seems like soon, genuinely scary games will only come from indie developers.

On the subject of indie horror games, though, I do like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Kraven Manor. I enjoy them because they work to build up psychological horror, instead of constantly assaulting the player with nothing but darkness and jumpscares. Kraven Manor may be short for a horror game, but the amount of imagination and work that clearly went into it make the short experience a fun and scary one.

I've got an idea! No..... No, wait; it's just a concussion....

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Resident Evil(Gamecube)

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Resident Evil 4

I like them for different reasons, ED and RE for being legitimately scary a lot of the time, SH for being incredibly atmospheric and having tense sections without combat(not to mention having a brilliant, wholly invisible system that watches how you play for multiple endings), and RE4 for having the most perfect balance of atmosphere, creepiness, cheesiness, and intense action of any game ever. :D

I would have to say ANY of the games in the Silent Hill franchise; yes, at times they aren't scary, but being chased by monsters makes me a little unnerved.

So this includes:

Silent Hill

Silent Hill 2

Silent Hill 3

Silent Hill 4: The Room

Silent Hill Homecoming

Silent Hill Shattered Memories

Silent Hill Downpour

(I think I got the main games in order; any Silent Hill fanatics can happily correct me. happy.png )
