Opinions on Wings?

So I tried drawing flared (extended) wings yesterday for the first time: I think it went pretty well but outside opinions are always better so...

 

Yay or nay? Too detailed? Not detailed enough?

I really like the feathered effect, but the shape of the foreground shape of the wing closest too us, seems a bit odd or something and might need re shaping? Other than that it looks really awesome

I've been debating this same thing myself, as the way I would normally draw wings is completely different from show-style. What you've drawn looks good, but the level of detail in the wings is contrasting a bit with the abstractness of the show-style elsewhere.

 

Specifically my eye is drawn to the legs. With the level of detail in the wings, I'm thinking that maybe showing the actual hooves or something similar might be an idea.

It depends on what you're going for. If show accuracy is what you want, then it's too complicated and detailed. More realistic than cartoony. But they do look pretty good if you're going for a more "realistic" looking set of wings (as realistic as wings on a horse can be anyway). The rest of the pony looks more cartoony though, so I would try to either make the wings more cartoony or the pony more realistic, just so it's consistent

The difference between the wings and the body is probably because I did them separately. Here's her original picture:

 

Think I'm going to make her a little more detailed, don't want to go TOO far from the show though.

Looks good!  I think that the closest wing should be lifted a bit.  From the angle your pony is at, I think the closest wing would cover the far wing more, but that is just my opinion.

The wings look good closed, though I'm not too big a fan of the random black feathers, too "special snowflake-y" for my tastes. I think your pony would look better without them. Also, this isn't quite on topic, but is her cutie mark her own head? That would be weird yo

The shape of the wing's a little odd, but then again you seem to have taken a pretty stylistic approach with the mare's body shape in general, so overall I think the wings look great, both flared and closed.  While I like most of the coloring, I do have to agree with some that the black feathers are kinda out of place; if she had a few black streaks in her mane/tail, it might make a little more sense, but as is it's kinda random.  Still, overall this is a great drawing, and I'd love to see more work from you Cinderscribe!

Heh, she's crippled and the black feathers were my best attempt at what a burn might look like in that style.

I don't think that needs a visual representation. Let the fact that she cant fly speak for itself. Wings don't turn black when they're burned, they're just gone

Well, first of all, I love this drawing. Heck, I love the second drawing too. You're a very good artist!

 

I think the wings look great, and I love the coloring. The only thing I might change is the topmost feathers of the wing look a little too rounded. Still though, great job on the whole.

Wow that's a nice drawing. You are a very talented artist! I couldn't do half that good. If you look at my drawings compared to yours, in about 10 seconds flat, you will automatically say "Cinderscribe's is 20% cooler"
