I have high hopes that people will be transferring their minds into machines in my lifetime, but part of me is slightly nervous. Virtual reality is sorta already here, I mean look at the Xbox Kinect. the future stuff, is just taking it many steps further and immersing you completely into a virtual world....I have no doubt this technology will be here....but it'll be expensive,and not every household will have one right away, maybe 20-30 years later, everyone will have a virtual reality thing in their house.

Hello Mr. Uber Negative Elitist. What is wrong with dreaming about something that someone would actually love if the technology was created? Well, it will be something more than a holodeck. As far as I've read on Memory Alpha you cannot have different body in holodeck. The responses would not be realistic at first but we are making progres with AI, like Siri. But there is a problem: You may have a very realistic Twilight being your friend, but she will not be really conscious. It may be possible to make conscious beings someday, but they would have free will and they could leave virtual Equestria if they want. So I see the Virtual Equestria as a MMORPG with other players, and everyone is a pony or other Equestrian species.

 

Interesting times are coming. Just think of thousands of fictional universes created to fulfill the dreams of fandoms.

You forgot to think about one important thing: Even if virtual reality will be possible in only ten years, there won't be any bronies out there any more. It is highly unlikely the My Little Pony fandom will survive to 2039 or even 2023. Sorry for thinking so realistic... Otherwise, if possible, I would do it and live in Equestria, maybe not my entire life, but for a short time each week.

 

Well this one is in South Africa.  I would imagine Brony is probably a much better place to live.  Equestria doesn't seem nearly as inviting as they make it seem in the show

Sorry, but South Africa is one of the few countries in Africa politically stable and providing at least some of living standard to the majority of citizens. Those pictures would fit more for Somalia, Eritrea or Sudan.

 

Space Colonization will be the solution to overpopulation problem. And our growth rate is slowing. We will peak at 11 billion.

The other planets in the Solar System are uninhabitable, reaching and colonising habitable exoplanets would require a lot of faster-than-light starships within the next two centuries to solve the populace problem. Still, the future is hard to predict, more and more exoplanets are discovered and starship-building in the size of the current airline industry would be enough to carry enough humans to new planets. There are many calculations, UN assumes world population will reach 9 billion at 2050 to stop growing at this point or peak at 10 to 12 billion.

Goddamn...technology is upgrading itself so fast now o.o This kind of invention is something I would imagine around the same year the stereotypical hovering-cars, floating houses and robots were made (You know xP Futurama type of future).

Glad to know that people might be able to live their virtual dreams, but I hope everyone doesn't get their hopes up too high. I don't want to be 'that guy' who lets everyone down but imagine how much this stuff would cost? They wouldn't just let anybody use something like this for free. One way I see Generation 5 and 6 is the same universe but a different Mane Six. I hope that they don't change the animation too much. I really love Twilight's mane. In Virtual Equestria we will use models way more detailed than Gmod ones. I can't wait to become Twilight, it's one of my biggest dreams.

Generation 6 will be as childish and boring as G1, 2, 3 and 3.5 were, and even if not the current brony fandom will die together with G4 until being reincarnated.

 

Fandoms of megafranchises like Star Trek are exceptions and mainly survive through constant flow of new official material, like films, episodes, novels, comics and toys.
