Prices

Why are fan made plushies so expensive? Yes, I know they put a lot of work into them but that doesn't warrant a price in the triple digits. I once saw a plushie on etsy of Luna that cost 500 dollars. Yes it did get sold. Probably to an obsessive fan or a spoiled kid.

That is how it goes I would say...

Those fan made plushies are often very detailed and hand-made in week-long work, and unique, belonging to that.

Apart from that, and maybe even because of it, it is art. Nothing like plushies produced on a line, but stitching, sewing and actual creativity behind it.

That is what people pay for, the original, inimitable version of a plushie...

No need to hate on the people making them or buying them, just for they feel like spending sometimes even hundreds on such merchandise. It´s their choice after all.

That's economics, that is. Sell to what the market can bear. As long as people are paying the price, there's no incentive to sell for cheaper.

The prices 'normally' are warranted. I don't make plushies so actual numbers are going to be conjecture, but I understand how business is suppose to be done so take what I say at face value.

Price=Cost of Materials(Margin) + Labor

I bought a plushie for $170 and I'm guessing it took this person roughly 12-15 hours to make (complete guess). And let's say the cost of materials was $50 (guessing). Minimum wage where I live is roughly 8/hr and I don't think we expect these people to work for less than that because if we did then we might as well buy one from china. So 13*$8=104. You add that to the materials with a 20%margin (that's low imo) and you get to $104+60=164. Add shipping and you're roughly close to what I paid.

The thing you have to remember is that each one is hand made and not mass produced. These people usually have other full or part time jobs in which they have to find time around to complete each order. Making plushies is not something you can make a living off of its more in line with doing odd jobs for extra spending cash.

Supply and demand.

Coming form the furry fandom, people spend anywhere from $300-$5,000 on a full fursuit of their fursona.

So I can understand why a handmade plush is expensive. I got a 11'' tall Handmade Fluttershy....and I got her fairly cheap at $40 on eBay. her cutie marks (on both flanks) and her eyes were also all done on a serger. A serger is great for stuff like eyes and cutie marks. S If you're any kind of professional, you'll have one. My mom even has one, and she never uses it. ome people makes these as a 2nd job along side art and fursuit making.

if it's in the triple digits, they should be huge, and cuddleable.....something you can sleep with in bed kinda size, or cuddle up on the couch with. which would be anywhere from 18'' to 30'' tall
