I like a cloudy day because it usually means rain, and love rain and when it rains. I was wondering if you could give me any tips on how to draw like that?

Me too! I love rainy days. They make everything looks stunning and unfamiliar... Weather brings a beautifully eerie atmosphere.

 

And I'm not sure if I can help you with that. All I can say is practice, practice, practice. I'm not all that good, really. It's just ponies are kinda simple to draw

Ok I will do that. I'm not that good at drawing either. Unfortunately, ponies are rather difficult for me to draw. Maybe it's because I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

It does. But I believe that that skill can also be taught and accomplished through some practice. At least that's what I think. And this is your first pony?!? Mine was soooooo bad haha

It can certainly be taught with practice. Nothing's impossible. It's just easier for some others.

 

I've been drawing for years, and I'm still nothing special, but this came kinda easy for me. It's much easier than drawing anatomically correct horses

No kidding. Anything cartoonish is always easier to draw than something anatomically correct.  I don't see how some people draw some stuff.

As far as the pic goes, there are some minor anatomical hiccups (length of the legs, neck a bit too thin, outline of the forehead) but nothing jarring.

 

I do rather like the design of mane and tail, maybe leave out the hoofdetails though, they are generally only seen on stallions.

 

To finish the design, I'd say add some gimmick: a piece of jewelry, a pet bird, something that sets her apart from other OCs (here's a pretty good example)

 

 

The colourscheme seems a bit forgettable to me: there are already far too many blue-on-blue pegasi Ocs out there. I'd say play around with some ponycreator and see if you find something to your liking. Also, isn't "Skylar" already taken by Hasbro?

And the hoof details are supposed to signify that she isn't a girly girl. She's very much a tomboy. They also made her look cooler.

 

And I was definitely thinking of adding some sort of necklace, or something. I just couldn't think of a design before I scanned the picture. Her design isn't complete. I'm still fleshing out a few things, so be on the lookout for updates!

 

And I'm honestly not too sure about the colors. I want her to basically look like the sky. White, and blue. Though, maybe I could give her a sunrise/sunset color scheme... *ponders*

 

And I believe there is a pony named "Skyla", but not "Skylar". Even if that name was already taken, I honestly don't care. There can be more than one Skylar

Once she's colored, I'll update this thread, or make a completely new one.

 

And I was considering having streaks in her hair. I just didn't know how to go about doing that. Possibly intertwining a cloudy white into her hair? I'll see...

If I may say, she might look good with a sky blue coat and a gray color (like a storm cloud) mane, but that is just a suggestion. It's your OC and can be colored however you see fit.

That's really cool! You can kind of see the personality just by the looks of it! It's definitely different from most OC'S. :3 The hairstyle really shows part of that imagination.

I'm usually far too hesitant to comment on these things but now I just had to, because I really love how your OC looks!    I mean her looks overall, since somehow it really pops out of the crowd, especially with that mane style and the details on the hooves. But of course there's no denying the fact that you also drew her so awesomely! I usually prefer original style to the show's style when it comes to drawing, but this one looks really nice! Even though it's very show accurate by the drawing style, there is something original to it, I just can't tell what exactly - but maybe that's just because there's nothing remarkable in a negative way.    (At first I thought the hind legs were a bit too long, but after looking it for a bit, I noticed it might be just because of the angle of the picture.)

Thanks a lot! I was in fact trying to stay true to the original show design, but I was certainly also trying to make it completely original. She's also supposed to be a pony version of me, and I'm very different from most of the people I know, so it only makes sense

 

And a digitized colored version is on the way. My friend Paris is doing it for me, since I know nothing about digital art  -_-

Attention to everyone who actually cares, I've changed her name from 'Skylar', to 'Sky Song'. I just thought it sounded more pony-ish. Also, it's a very pretty name!
