Okay, so here's my theory on the infection. There's two ways you can get it.

 

1: you get bitten, but don't perish. The virus overrides your system a d controls the host, but the host is technically still alive, so the aging process and all that are still in effect. When the cure happened, they returned to normal because they were still alive

 

2: you perish. The virus takes the body and uses it to its own will, but since the body is dead, all natural problems cease to work. When the cure happened, these bodies remained dead, as they were dead prior to the infection overriding them.
