Fluttershy shouldn't be discorded

I'm the only one who found Discord actions inconsistent?

Of course he is an embodiment of chaos so he doesn't have to do anything that makes sense. But in "The Return of Harmony" some of his actions actually have meaning and purpose.
From his behavior can be concluded that he was aware that hiding elements of harmony isn't enough and that he must also overcome the magic of friendship of Mane6. At first he cheated them so that they went to the maze and then he went to great length to change each of them. The confirmation of the theory that he deliberately planned all of this was his triumph and exhilaration after he found that Twilight finally gave up and lost her spirit.

The magic of friendship is stronger than him - we also find confirmation of this in "Keep Calm and Flutter On" where I would have said that he wasn't reformed but rather defeated by magic of friendship again. Therefore, it seemed reasonable that, before he could change each of them he had to a little weaken their spirit of friendship (their element of harmony) first.

And then he met Fluttershy and discorded her by force (just before he did this I was sure that Fluttershy will be the one who will save the rest). This spoils the whole picture of the reasonableness and purpose of his actions (I mean an unnecessary hole in the plot). Why didn't he just force discorded them all? Or he could constantly hide elements for harmony in various places so that they never could find them.

Because Discord is an idiot. I am sorry but he is. Chrysalis defeated Celestia so its understandable how cocky hse became. King Sombra put the Crystal Heart in a place Twilgiht barely found and once she found it he went after her.

Sure Discord was strong but the EoH defeated him once and he should have noticed they aren't discorded anymore.

Why did he even try to to hide the elements and discord the mane 6 at all?

He is Discord. Disharmony. Imbalance.

His actions don't have to make sense. He said it by himself. What fun is there in making sense? He is the only character we don't have to consider from the point of being reasonable. He simply is not supposed to be reasonable, if he is the spirit of the chaos that is so often considered to be chaos. Disorder. Not being replicable.

Yeah it doesn't make sense, but hey that's Discord for you, he does everything BUT make sense.

So don't even bother asking questions or try to understand him because you won't succeed. Hasbro just does whatever they want with him and expects nobody to ask questions. That's the fun of having a character like Discord, he can get away with random nonsense crap because THAT'S JUST WHAT HE DOES!! It's who he is :)

And that's exactly what makes him so powerful. However, it does make sense, in a certain fashion, that the magic of friendship is more powerful. Just like Discord, Pinkie Pie also hardly ever makes sense and frequently breaks the fourth wall to top things off, something Discord hasn't yet done. Twilight and the others being able to accept Pinkie Pie's nonsensical nature is what I believe one of the main reasons the mane 6 were ultimately able to overcome Discord's chaotic frenzy.

tl;dr Pinkie Pie rules.

PINKIE IS AWESOME!! She's just so random and we all love her for it. At least some people do. But yeah Discord still needs to break the fourth wall, something he NEEDS to do as the spirit of chaos

I would like to clarify that I realize that one shouldn't look for meaning in his actions. But after all, we know that he isn't omnipotent, and if he wants to face with something that is more powerful than him, he has to take reasonable actions. He is still dependent on certain rules that rule the world. That's how it was presented in this episode that the magic of friendship is so strong that he is forced to do some thoughtful action.
I mean the sense is in that the magic of friendship is so strong that he must first weaken each of the Mane6 before he can use his power. This is not in Fluttershy case - like her friendship already was weak enough.

@@spacestorm,

Well, he could force-discord them all, that is, if they needed to be force-discorded. Fluttershy was the only one who didn't give in to lies and deception, having to be hypnotized instead. Well, the other Elements were also hypnotized, but I think you get the point.

Discord doesn't really think before he does any actions. He is someone who would go to any means on winning but, when it comes to fighting someone more powerful than him he takes some actions. As for Fluttershy, when she was discorded I don't think there was a reason for it.

Honestly, he just wanted to toy around with the mane 6. Even though he hid the elements of harmony, he told Twilight and co. where they would find them in a round about way instead an outright lie. Then he corrupts each of them individually with a speech just because he can (well, except for Fluttershy). I think he just found that method more fun than the forced discording used on Fluttershy; it's like when the bad guys toy around with their weak opponents. Fluttershy was just being a spoilsport  :P

Although I agree that he should be disharmonous, I think that it was unfair for him to Arrebaderch Fluttershy. It'd be neat if the fact that Fluttershy was immune to hatred could save Equestria. Plus, Twilight has been known to give up before (Though rarely), and so it might have been better if their roles were switched in that episode.

I saw Discord's actions in Return of Harmony Part 1 as a demonstration of his immense power, as well as his neutral and chaotic alignment.  He is apparently powerful enough that he could have utterly destroyed the Mane 6 if he'd wanted to.  He could have simply stolen the Elements and never allowed Twilight to find them.  He didn't need to give them any riddles.  Once loose, he could have just ruled Ponyville and/or Equestria, and nobody would have been able to stop him.

But Discord proved that he isn't in it for the power, not like Chrysalis or Sombra.  And he isn't spiteful like Nightmare Moon.  He's a trickster - he gets incredible pleasure out of playing tricks, causing chaos, and making ponies play games (the labyrinth was literally a game to him).  And it would appear that the more resistance his "subjects" exert, the more pleasure he gets out of making them dance.  That may explain why his exertion of power was less direct and more awkward in "Keep Calm" than in "Return of Harmony" - Fluttershy was playing along, and thus he didn't have much resistance to feed off of.

In my opinion, this makes Discord a powerful bully, but not an outright evil character.  I don't think he's ever been truly evil - just chaotic, with a neutral alignment.  Given the chance, I'm pretty sure he would have done the same things to Chrysalis and her minions.  When he took direct control of Fluttershy in "Return of Harmony", he certainly demonstrated that he had the power to do so, but then, why didn't he just do that to all of them?  Probably because that wouldn't have been at all fun - there'd be no challenge to it.  He wanted a challenge, and in order for the game to be fun, there had to be a chance that he'd lose.

That was exactly what I wanted to see that this time Fluttershy will be a hero instead of Twilight.

@@Pixel Stick,

A very good explanation, but still in my opinion this makes him too much overpowered, what isn't so cool. Or let him be overpowered but in return give him some more limits/flaws other than just too much self confidence.

It would be better if Fluttershy also was deceived by Discord like other 5 -  I wouldn't have so many doubts.

I'm guess he had the ability to just straight up force it on them from the start, but he preferred breaking them and tricking to accept the change willingly because he enjoyed it more than just doing the equivalent of casting a quick charm spell to control them. He got some kind of pleasure out the fact he tore them down so much they they wanted it.

I wouldn't say they wanted it, necessarily, but they ended up being broken down by their own weaknesses.  It's apparent that Discord enjoys that much more than the direct control - I was thinking more about that today and realized that he showed some genuine frustration and displeasure when he hypnotized Fluttershy.  His demeanor there wasn't just forcefulness with her - I think he really didn't enjoy it at all, but decided he HAD to do it to keep the advantage.

Actually, he did. In "Keep Calm and Flutter On", after he snaps his tail fingers to mind control the beavers, (it makes sense in context) he looks right into the camera and says "Oopsie!"

Yeah, his reaction more "Oh for pete's sake... Fine, here, we'll do this the boring way since you won't cooperate." then enjoyment of doing it the easy way.
