~HistoricallyInaccurate~' @, @@Grand_Finale,

Glory, the Head Doctor, watched the new arrivals enter. She sighed with relief when the nurse, Grand Finale, took immediate charge of registering the new inmates. There was good stuff in that one, something which the asylum sorely needed.

"Good work, Nurse," Glory said to Grand Finale. "I can leave this with you, yes? Any problems, just give me a call."

Glory thought to herself that this year was going to be a difficult one, both with the news that Joy had given her and with the sheer volume of patients to deal with. It looked as tho one on one treatment was going to be nigh on impossible. This meant that doctors would have to deal with multiple numbers of patients; Glory sighed. She had a huge amount of work to get thru today. But if Nurse Grand Finale would take over the signing in of the new patients, then she would be able to go and visit Vinyl early. If the mare had had another nightmare, this would be all for the best

(Sorry about being so inactive. I meant to post last night, but I was busy talking to Feld0 and Ice Storm and everyone)

Vinyl stayed in her room and waited for Glory to come for her. After she had counted all the cracks she could stand, she got up and walked over to her window and stared out of it

(I'm going to make the stupid presumption that I can roleplay as Honey Jars as well as Shimmers. I did put the application up.)

Honey took a deep breath. This was the first time she had attained the courage to walk into he insane asylum. She never thought of going but after injecting heself with venom to "sting bad ponies with" and almost dies, she figured she needed help. She opened the doors and walked up to the counter. "Uh. H-H-Hello?"

@@Timeless Toaster, @,

"Fine at the moment," Glory replied. "Just so much to do!" She turned to Blind. "Alright. I'll put you down to work on the farm, if that's alright with you. You can work alone there, if you wish, taking care of the hens or the cows." She looked at her watch. "Really must dash; gotta visit one of the patients. Tell me if you need anything!"

Glory galloped off, feeling a bit stressed. Still, a talk with Vinyl might calm her down. She was soon knocking on her door. The private rooms were given to those who either had outbursts or who were too nervy to dorm with other ponies. Sometimes, ponies requested specifically to go to dorm after having their own room for a while; such requests were always granted.

@,

"I'm in for murder and mayhem," Jay called back in reply. "But it wasn't me who did them. It was Jinx."

"Too right," came a different voice, harsher and deeper than Jay's. But the voice came from the same pony; it was Jinx, Jay's evil personality. "Jay's a wimp, she weeps when other ponies die, even those who bullied her! But I soon make sure that they get exactly what they deserve."

@,

Joy nodded, understanding. "That's what I was thinking," she replied. "The last time I met with Dume, he poured scorn on what we're trying to do here, in other words, give the inmates tasks to do rather than have them sit in their cells all day, and let them go to group therapy and do art to help them speak of what troubles them. He thinks that all mentally ill ponies ought to be treated like the ones he keeps in the Criminal Asylum. I don't think I'd ever want to work there; I'm just not the type. I'd rather stay here, where I am needed and where my views are accepted."

Blind shyly ate his breakfast with tiny nibbles. Every now and then he'd take an equally tiny sip of his juice. After about five minutes, he pushed the tray away and got up to do his work for the day.

~Down at the farm~

Blind used his magic to carry the bucket of cornfeed for the hens in the hen house.

Vinyl turned around and opened the door for Glory, which wasn't necessary since every doctor had a master key, but she figured Glory was being extra courteous and giving her some privacy, which she extremely appreciated. She smiled and hugged her. "Hey Glory... I, uhh... Yeah, I had another nightmare."

C'mon Goldie...you can do this

He knocked on the office door and waited for an answer.

@@Pripyat Pony,

"I think that is a pretty good way to view it," Steeleye said, though it seemed something was bothering him. "Some ponies don't get to choose... so those that do should go where they fit best I suppose." He flipped through his sketch book for a moment, sighing to himself. "I think the new batch of patients were supposed to arrive today. Let me see..." A list was pulled from his bags. Quickly scanning the names and various stats, he raised one eyebrow. "Hmm. If this name and profile is correct, it seems I've met one of our new guests before. Oh Celestia, I hope the poor bastard didn't go through the same thing-." He stopped mid-sentence. Apparently his brain had caught up with what he was saying out loud and decided it would be bad if it was heard. "Ahem. I've got to go and examine the new patients. Even though someone else does the primary, I still like to keep an eye on them. It helps to learn early when something I haven't seen before steps through the doors. Unless... there was anything else you needed?" His words drifted into silence near the end of the last sentence as he blushed again.

after half an hour or so Eddie slowly began to open his eyes as he felt his head was laying on spilled cold water as he tried to get up he slipped on his own blood as well as his mane was in blood "oh good lord...AGH! where am i what is this place...how did i..." from blood loss Eddie felt like he was about to throw up "....mmmmghhaaah!" Eddie started to breath heavily as he also felt dizzy as he heard silent whispers that actually sounded like from his pal's voice, Joe's "..h-how am i not dead yet? all of this could of been avoi...SHUT UP!! YES! wait....I NEED A DOCTOR!!....i need one"

Eddie didnt risk simply waiting for someone to check on him, he crawled torwards his bed trying to grab his sheet.

As he pulled it off the bed, from what strengh Eddie had left he ripped the sheet apart with his teeth, he started to wrap his head up like a bandana to stop the bleeding more or less "the-there heheheh! that should buy me some time till them...clocksucking doctor get over here" Eddie sat against the wall on the floor looking at his own blood on the floor.

After his work on the farm was complete, Blind Noise sat on one of the rocks that surrounded the work area. He stared to the sky above, his snow white, cararact induced eyes stared blankly up at the clouds that he couldn't see as they passed over head.

"You know...we could escape here...we just have to kill certain ponies and when they're out of the way...BAM! We make a break for it. Go to PonyVille, knock up some mares, and hide out in the Everfree. What'dya say?" the Voice asked.

Blind Noise slammed a hoof on the rock and clenched his head with his other hoof.

"No! We're not doing that! They can help me here...help me get rid of you..." He said quietly.

Honey sighed. "OK then!" She gracefully twirled past tue counter. "Seeing as how NOPONY can be assed to talk to me; I guess I shall just trot right in!" She yelled allowed as if hoping for attention, which was odd considering herself. Though this was only because a voice told her that her being ignored made her worthless and simply left to die.

"Could you please go and look after the front desk for a little while, please?" Joy asked. "I'd go myself, but I'm up to my eyes in paperwork right now and I simply can't go. "I signed up with the 1st Canterlot Fusilers... E-everypony had the war fever going on at that point. The Russians had crossed the Danube into Constantinoble...and they had destoryed some turkish merchant fleet, which rivaled our naval supremacy. We allied ourselves with the French...we arrived in...Celestia I forget the name. It was...hot, too damn hot. That was when we got our first look at the turks: Filthy...poor...sitting on the streets infront of small houses, asking for money from us, asking if we wanted to buy any food of of them. I remember..." he smiled and chuckled before returning to a emotion of seriousness and sorrow. "I remember we all...looked at one another...asking ourselves 'Are these the people we've come to save? Some poor beggars?'"

@@Pripyat Pony, ,

((While I appreciate historical significance, I tend to take my own spin on things. Sorry bout that.))

"Of course ma'am," He said with a smile. "I have some things I can do while I'm up there, to hold the fort down." A scene flashed through his head, back from the jagged edges of his past. He'd said something similar to his sergeant, all those years ago when he was a simple medic of Her Majesty's 2nd Artillery Regiment, Support and Logistics division. They'd been the lucky ones, able to sit in the rear and lob magic projectiles over the heads of their meatshield infantry bretheren to pound the enemy into submission. 2nd Artillery had been charged with the Big Guns, or rather, gun. It was code-named 'King Khalkotauroi' after a mythical beast, with a caliber of five hundred, and a crew of nearly twenty unicorns simply to load the gun. This was because the ammunition was magically charged copper slugs, which burst in massive clouds of fire, electricity, and concussive force upon impact.

It was a Doomsday Weapon, pure and simple. Warfare in Equestria was something that happened hoof to hoof, horn to horn, and wing to wing. Magic spells were fairly commonplace, but long range weaponry was virtually unheard of. Yet somehow Canterlot's best and brightest had planned and tinkered, resulting in a metal behemoth that rained death from the ground to sky and back to the ground again. While, certainly, this made it the most feared weapon that the Celestial Military could deploy; it also made it the most hated. Every Russian Pony within miles would be raring to blow it up or disable it, painting a gigantic target on the back of the crew responsible for operating it.

Celestia, he couldn't remember what battle it had been. One of many. They'd been detached from their normal infantry shield regiments in order to flatten a small town that the main army had simply moved around rather than attack. It was small, but well fortified enough that taking it would be more trouble than it was worth. So they'd simply bulldoze it over with artillery and keep moving to the next big city. 'King Kluk', as the loading crew had nicknamed the weapon, was in the middle of being prepped on a high ridgeline facing the city. It'd been a real pain in the flank hauling it up there, but it was worth the strategic advantage and safety it would supply. The other cannons were already prepared and ready to fire. Their job was to paste anyone who tried to leave while King Kluk smashed the fortifications to dust. The mood was a bit sombre. More than like civilians were hiding in cellars down in the city, hoping to be protected. It wouldn't help them any. King Kluk left craters three meters deep and five wide when it impacted solid ground.

In retrospect, it had been a bad idea to assume that Russian Civilians would wait around to get shot at. This was their home countryside. They knew it better than anyone. So just before the first shells began to rain down on the town, they sprung their surprise. The ridge, will providing excellent range of sight and cover, was rather treacherous for artillery to navigate. Only one area was suitable to haul the guns up, which they were now facing away from towards the town. This was wear the majority of the enemy had focused, the rest circling around the ridge to keep them from escaping. Rather ironic that. In effect, they'd caught the artillery with their backs turned and their pants down.

Though not exactly military quality in training, most of the locals were tough as nails. They routinely lived in these hellish winter conditions and knew how to survive on next to nothing. This also meant they could fight with anything they had, no matter what it happened to be. Steeleye was sure he had seen one mare braining a solider with a pillow case filled with tacks. Being assigned to the Logistics Division, he was stationed at the rear of the Artillery formation, right in the thick of it. It'd been hell for the first minute and a half, with a wide menagerie of maniac civies rushing at them in a screaming tide. Steeleye was lucky in that he wasn't actually -at- his station when this happened. One of the loaders on King Kluk had over-extended herself and needed attention to regain conciousness. Turning around, they could all see that they were well and truly bucked. Artillery Regiments got the same basic training as Infantry in addition to their gunnery lessons, but they had virtually no experience in real close quarters combat.

Chaos was breaking out within two minutes as the tide of civilians began pushing further up the ridge, sending a pre-wash of wounded and fleeing soldiers in front of them. News came that the Colonel was down, as were a good number of the Lieutenants. They'd been trapped in the Command Tent and been trampled to death. The Major was nowhere to be found, though they'd later find him barely alive under a pile of bodies. He'd been crushed by weight of numbers, even though he was an exceedingly brawny stallion. With the command chain effectively in ruins, no one had the slightest idea what to do other than run. Gunnery sergeants managed to keep their individual squads and pieces in order, but they weren't able to coordinate. Steeleye, perhaps out of shock, was rather calm and collected unlike those around him.

It was a disaster, anyone could see that. But he saw potential for victory, though costly. A quick message and following argument with the firing crew of King Kluk eventually won his case. King Kluk primarily fired in one direction, forward. But the exact position in which the shot landed was directed by the firing crew via magic. With enough power, it was concievable that they could turn the shot around in mid-air and land it behind them. It was crazy and would likely get them all killed. Of course, they were bucked anyways, so why not? Less than the normal priming charge was loaded, so that the shot would not go as far or as fast for purpose of easier handling. Still, when it fired, it deafened everypony within sight. The shot lazily sagged through the air, drifting downwards, until it seemed to be yanked back the other direction. Screaming close overhead, it turned and planted itself near the middle of the charging tide of civilians. To say it was catastrophic was an understatement. In a morbidly funny fashion, gun crews were cleaning the resulting rain of blood and body pieces off of their guns for weeks. Apparently the shot had over-charged from sitting so long in the barrel, making it much more... volitale than anticipated. In addition to the blast, nearly half the ridgeline collapsed into avalanches, causing a few soldier casualties in addition to the intended targets. They'd received reinforcements a couple of days later, seeing as the guns were stuck on the ridge until heavy lifting equipment arrived. Most of the civilians who'd survived had vanished into the night rather than stay and fight further.

Steeleye remembered this all in a couple of seconds, shaking his head to clear his mind. That had been one of many costly deployments. He'd been booted up to Lieutenant for his risky but daring actions, then to Major after the previous Major had been promoted to Colonel, all in the span of a week. He couldn't remember where exactly he and Golden Age had served together, but he did remember that it was in one of the most hellish battles that war had produced. Thinking on this, he made his way to the receptionist desk, now burdened with memories of the past as well as paperwork.
