Do you have Astraphopia?

I do not have astraphobia. In fact, quite the contrary: I love thunder and lightning, except for when it hurts people. It is an amazing and powerful aspect of nature that is wondrous to behold. I find the sound of distant thunder to be calming, and the sound of thunder nearby to be awe-inspiring.

 

I remember watching a thunderstorm one night. It was incredible. I stood on my porch under an awning, and watched the rain pour down. Sometimes, the lightning would flash so brightly all of my surroundings were suddenly illuminated, perhaps even more so than in the daytime.

Not really, perhaps inside I feel some degree of fear... but that hasn't stopped me from running into a thunderstorm in which the rain was hitting hard on my skin and the wind was strong enough to flip over chairs... and a portable potty on it's side, and that thunder was very loud. I did it  because I was very bored and needed to "get up".

 

I went nuts out there.

As a child, thunder and lightning scared me.  The worst part was trying to get to sleep.  I needed the window shades to be pulled all the way down and even then light got through the cracks.  So I faced away from the window and closed my eyes tight so I couldn't see the lightning.  It was bad enough that I asked my parents if I could sleep with them. 

 

Then one day, I suddenly outgrew it.  I still don't like thunder and lightning, but I was able to cope with it ever since.

I tend to enjoy thunder and lightning, or rather the rain that usually comes with it. Here in Massachusetts the weather is quite unpredictable anyways, and I find that a good storm boosts my creativity.

To add, the sound of rain and thunder has to be one of the most calming things when in bed going to sleep for me. It's almost like a spell or something.
