" That's adorable." Lyona cooed, looking at the pendant and then back at Swift Quill. " I know a nice cafe not too far from here, it's pretty cheap and has some really tasty sandwiches. Their soup's okay, but I've tasted better. Do you want to go there?" She offered.

 

Swift Quill puts the chain away, "Yes please, and thank you. It was a gift from my only and best friend from growing up. It actually has magical properties. And I don't really mind how the soup tastes, anything sounds a whole lot better than rations. Seriously, my rations are starting to taste bland." Swift Quill smiles

Lyona smiled as well. " Well, once I had to eat only trail mix for about four weeks, so I know how you feel. We should fly there, we can get there quicker." She fluttered her wings, ready to take off. " They even have a landing pad on the roof for pegasi, so we probably won't crash."

Swift Quill laughs, "Ok then show the way." He starts flapping his wings. "I have to tell you, after where I've been, it's nice to finally arrive in Fillydelphia, and to meet a nice pony, such as yourself." He says smiling at her. "Oh and I like your cutie mark, I assume it has something to do with cats?"

"I have to tell you, after where I've been, it's nice to finally arrive in Fillydelphia, and to meet a nice pony, such as yourself." He says smiling at her. Lyona flew eastward, at a moderate speed. She blushed faintly at Swift Quill's compliment.

 

" Yes, it does. I have a 'special' connection with cats. " Lyona made air quotes around the word special. " Honestly, it's nice, but then again, my cat likes to tell me about every single thing, from a stray feather to some grass moving. What about you?"

"Still, a Phoenix must have more interesting stories to tell then a common house cat. " Lyona reasoned. The cafe could already be seen below them. " I've been here for less than a month. I still can't find a job, but I've got my savings from being a royal guard to tide me over until then. "

Swift Quill smiles, "Well yes he does, although before he left me a few months back to find his flock, all he could talk about was finding his flock and finding a mate. It got quite boring after a while." He sighs, "You were a royal guard? That's awesome! And I understand about not finding a job, I'm in the same situation."

" Lovesick animals are pretty hard to deal with sometimes. " Lyona agreed. " Yeah, I was one for a few years. I quit 'cause it was becoming quite boring, just standing there and not doing anything. I'm hoping to find a better life here. Hopefully my next job will have something to do with animals, it is my special talent after all. What kind of job would you like?"

"Well, hopefully something to do with writing. I am thinking of maybe becoming a freelance writer. Perhaps even writing novels. To be honest, I am not completely fussed with finding work, as most of my time has been spent looking for my parents." Swift Quill smiles, "And yes, you are right about the lovesick animal bit, but I put up with him, as he and I grew up together."

Minty eventually found the animal shelter. "Aha! Here it is.." Minty pushed open the door and was actually surprised to see Dog Ears sitting at a table. "Hey, Dog Ears..! Glad to see you here. I didn't want to go through the trouble of introducing myself to somepony new."

" Maybe you could sign up for the local newspaper? I heard that they were hiring, but since I'm a horrible writer I didn't dare apply. "

 

The cafe was now right below them. Lyona angled her wings downward, landing on the landing pad. " You'll find your parents soon enough, I bet. Do you want to eat outside or inside?"

"Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it some thought." Swift Quills lands on the landing pad next to Lyona, "I sure do hope I find them, I have so many questions to ask them. I'd prefer to eat outside, if it's ok with you, small, closed up spaces kind of freak me out."

" I don't really mind, I'm fine either way." Lyona shrugged. She found a nice table in the shade and quickly sat down. " At least it's not too hot outside."

 

A waiter arrived at their table soon after they had sat down. Lyona ordered iced tea and a dandelion sandwich. The menu had simple but tasty choices.

"Thank you." Swift Quill sighs, "Yes, the weather is quite nice, this time of the year, isn't it?" He sits opposite Lyona, orders a Strawberry milkshake and a simple salad. The cry of the Phoenix gets louder and closer, "Ah, it seems that he has found me." Swift Quill says with a smile.

Lyona looked around for the phoenix, curiosity gleaming in her eyes. " I've never actually properly seen a Phoenix before, only glimpses. Princess Celestia's pet Phoenix doesn't really like us guards that much. Always flies away before we can see her."

Nestle barked at the familiar face and moved over to Dog Ears. "Ah hello there Minty. So what brings you here? I don't remembering see you before today so you're not picking up... And you don't seem to have anyone with you so you're not dropping off... So I'm assuming you're either here to adopt, foster, or just look around." Dog Ears' voice was very light hearted and soothing. It was his normal voice, but it was something he used to his advantage to get other ponies to feel comfortable around him.

 

((And now I must lie motionless and lose consciousness for eight hours.))

"Well you should get a good eye full of mine, he is a little shy around new ponies at first, but once he knows they are friendly, he can be quite the show off." Swift Quill laughs. Swift Quill's Phoenix appears in the sky, and there's a cry of joy coming from him.

" He looks so cute!" Lyona brought her hoof forward to per him, but then hesitated and brought it back.

 

The waiter arrived with their food, and Lyona eagerly dug in. " If you don't mind me asking, do you have any leads on where your parents are?" She asked then took a sip of her iced tea.

Swift Quill smiles at her, "It's ok to pet him, he only bites or scratches when he is defending me. No, I don't mind asking, well I came here because a lead I had said that two ponies matching their descriptions were spotted here. Oh and his name is Aodh, which in mythology means Fire." Aodh chirps into his ear and Swift Quill smiles and giggles.

Lyona smiled, and lightly petted the bird. He feels too warm, almost hot. But he is a Phoenix...

 

" At least you give good names. My Tom-boy cat is called Leo, one of the most unoriginal names for a male cat." She petted the bird one more time before putting her hoof down. " How do they look like again? I already forgot..." Lyona's checks reddened a little.

Swift Quill takes out the photo again and shows it to Lyona. "That's all-right, it took me quite a while to think of a name for Aodh." Aodh bites Swift Quill on the ear, "Ouch! All-right, All-right! I'll tell her! Yeesh! There's no need for the biting, young phoenix!" Swift Quill scolds Aodh

Lyona studied the picture a bit more, attempting to commit it to memory. " Thanks. " She gave it back to him.

 

" Tell who what?" She asked, tilting her head a bit in confusion. She couldn't help but laugh a little when Aodh bit Swift Quill's ear. That Phoenix is a hoot to be around. And now, I'm making bird puns. Great.

"You're welcome. And well, it's you he wants me to say this to. He heard how you said he's cute and he appreciates the complimet. He also says..." Swift Quill trails off, "Well, he says that you are quite a beautiful young pony...And well...Well I agree with him." He blushes.

Lyona blushed a deep red as he continued talking. " Thank-you. Both of you. For whatever it's worth, I think that you're rather handsome too." She then looked down at her drink, taking a sip. Was my face always this hot? Lyona wondered.

Swift Quill laughs, notices Lyona blushing and stops laughing, "Oh wow, thank you. I've always felt I was rather plain. There was this other pony who liked me but..." He trails off in deep thought, then at the memory of his best friend from growing up, tears start to form in his eyes.
