Astro closed his eyes relaxing in the cool shade of the tree he was sitting under. He sighed settling against the trunk and opened his eyes briefly to see a brown mare approaching him. He got to his feet and extended his hoof, smiling brightly. "Why hello there." He greeted her.

Lyona looked at her companion in concern, the blush fading. " Are you ok-" She paused, and decided to not finish the sentence. " What happened?" She asked quietly. " If you don't want to tell me, it's okay. I respect your privacy. "

 

Poor guy... Seems like he's been through a lot.

"It's ok, it's just that the other pony who said I was handsome, well she was my only and best friend growing up. I just haven't seen her in a long time, and I really miss her." Swift Quill wipes the tears from his eyes, "Thank you for your concern, it is heart warming to know that there are kind ponies out here."

 

Aodh then walks across the table, over to Lyona, and starts rubbing against her and chirps happily. Swift Quill smiles at him and says, "Yes, I agree with you."

Alona smiled as the stallion greeted her and shook his hoof, "Hello, I'm here trying to write a book was wondering if you happened to know your way around town or where the animal shelter is?" she replied

Lyona nodded in understanding. A thought struck her. " I don't want you to feel as if I'm replacing her or anything... If you do feel like that, I'll... Uh... Tone myself down?" She suggested, a weak smile on her face.

 

She giggled a little bit when Aodh rubbed against her, but the laughter soon faded. She looked at Swift Quill anxiously.

"No, no!" Swift Quill says in alarm, "It's nothing like that, honestly, I really appreciate your friendliness and honesty." He thinks for a while, "Well my friend and I did have feelings for each other, but...well we decided to stay as friends, as we both felt that anything more might complicate things." He smiles at her, then the gem stone on his pendant starts glowing.

Lyona sat back in her chair in relief. " Thank goodness. I was worried there for a sec. "

 

Maybe it was for the best... Lyona thought, then instantly felt bad. She shook her head to get rid of these thoughts.

 

" Your pendant is glowing. Should I be worried?" She asked in a joking tone.

Swift Quill looks down, "Oh, so it is. Would you like to know when it glows?" Swift Quill asks Lyona with a small smile on his face. "I mean,  I don't think I actually told you what exactly my pendant does." His stomach growls loudly and he decides to start eating his salad., so he slowly starts to nibble on it.

After the incident with the Pegasus Charcoal continues on her way to work at the construction site and begins her shift there. Working many hours a day in a place like that isn't exactly healthy on the body but Charcoal is used to it by now.

" Sure! I just thought that it was what usually a pendant is, jewelry. " Lyona said eyeing it. She then took another bite from her food. Immediately afterwards, she took a sip from her iced tea which wasn't so iced anymore. Pity. It's still a little cold though.

"Oh well, you see, the Phoenix pendant is a sort of charm. No matter how far I am away from him, Aodh, will always be able to find me. Especially if I am injured or scared...and the gemstone, well it acts like a mood ring, only 100% accurate." Swift Quill begins to reach over to hold Lyona's hoof, but thinks twice about it.

" So that's how Aodh found you..." Lyona looked at the pendant in a new light. I remember I had a mood ring when I was a kid, it never did work. " A nostalgic smile was on her face, remembering times past. " Does it simply glow when your emotions are high, or change color?"

Swift Quill smiles, "Yes, it is. Although he wouldn't need really need the pendant to find me, the bond that the two of us share, it is very strong. I raised him when he was a little chick, I found him injured while exploring the EverFree Forest. So I took him home to the orphanage to look after...and it changes colour." He looks at the pendant. "Right now, it is showing..." He trails off

Lyona's curiosity grew. " Is it showing boredom?" She joked, sitting back in her chair. " I wouldn't be surprised. Or the need to escape from some pony?" A smile grew on her face. Everfree forest... Feels like I've been there once. Nah, what the heck would I want with a forest?

"No, nothing like that." Swift Quill decides that he may as well tell the truth, "It actually shows that I am kind of..." He blushes, "I find myself, well... I find your company welcome and very pleasant, and well, your beauty it is quite radiant." He blushes and looks down at his hooves.

Lyona's face reddened. She found a sudden interest in counting the scratches on the table.

 

" Thank-you. You're not too bad yourself. " She said, looking up with a smile.

 

The waiter came just in time with the check. Lyona quickly counted out ten bits from her purse.

Swift Quill says, "no need. I'll pay." He takes out the ten bits from his saddlebags. Aodh flies up and perches himself on Swift Quill's shoulder. He then notices how Lyona went quiet. "I'm sorry..Did...Did I say something wrong?" He slumps in his chair, and the colour of his pendant changes to a dark colour.

Lyona opened her mouth to say something, when Swift slumped down in his chair. Her expression fell just a little.

 

" No, don't worry, you didn't. I just go randomly quiet when I start thinking too much." Lyona perked up again. " This is one of these times. How about we pay half-half? It's only fair. "

Swift Quill lightens up a bit, "Ok then, if I may ask, what were you thinking about?" He asks Lyona, "I am sorry if I surprised you or anything. It's just, well even though I was raised in the orphanage, I was taught to always be honest, and to speak my mind." The colour on his pendant changes back to the colour it was glowing before.

Lyona laughed lightly. " Don't worry, I'm used to people asking me questions and stuff. I was in the royal guard after all. I was just thinking about how happy I am for finding a new friend so quickly. I thought that it would take much more time, that's all."

 

She placed five bits onto the check.

Swift Quill laughs, "Ok then, I won't worry. I'm quite happy to make a new friend so quickly as well. I've never been really good at making friends." He places his 5 bits on the cheque and smiles. Aodh chirps happily into Swift Quill's ear. Swift Quill gives him a pet and says, "I'm proud of you boy, but where are they?"

"Ok then, I won't worry. I'm quite happy to make a new friend so quickly as well. I've never been really good at making friends."

 

" Me and you both." Lyona stood up, stretching. Wow, I was still for so long... Too absorbed in the conversation.

 

 

 

"I'm proud of you boy, but where are they?"

 

" What did he say?" She asked, straightening up again. " Y'know, I just noticed. The quill from your cutie mark is a phoenix feather. Strange coincidence, huh?

She waved off the compliment. " Not really, I had just been thinking about the properties of phoenix feather and remembered your cutie mark. Guess your and Aodh's connection is special enough to be in you cutie mark."

Dog Ears turned towards a hallway with Nestle trailing his tail. "If you follow me this way I can show you some animals. Do you like dogs? Cats? Rodents? Birds? I don't have many exotic animals like Fluttershy up in Ponyville, but the few that I have are pretty cool. So, what do you have in mind?"
