Other than the very end were a giant flame war caused the person in charge to change the vote for all 4 finalists, it when exactly the same as the World Cup, just with very minor changes to the roster.

 

So really, it was the same as now, but then people got wayyyyyyyy to into it for a cartoon pony popularity contest, and got offended by a couple of immature jokes.
