On windows I use playclaw

very customizable, can keep filesize rather low while maintaining quality high, can record multiple audio tracks for post-mixing

can stream and record, has awesome overlays ; can record desktop, OpenGL and DirectX 8-11 games

 

 

On linux I just use OpenBroadcasterSoftware

Rather small filesize, good quality, not sure if it can record multiple audio tracks (seems like it, but still haven't figured it out)

can stream and record, has scene composing, no overlays (haven't found them yet at least) ; can record pretty much everything

 

Err... Yeah I've been using Fraps

 

Awesome though, thanks I'll definitely check Playclaw out, it sounds pretty decent. I've been trying many different ones and they either have crappy trials or, like Fraps, destroy your hard drive. I've tried obs but it makes Arma run at like 5 fps for me

Yeah, Fraps is pretty heavy on FPS compared to Playclaw, at least for me.

It always depends on your PC specs, for example, I have a strong CPU, but a slow HDD.

 

If you have a Nvidia Card, you can even use Shadowplay, but I had serious problems with that one, drops frame like hell, but doesn't just delay til the next frame (or on other words, you get fast forward video)

I think Playclaw can even utilize the same technology as Shadowplay (NVENC or so it's called)

It has virutally NO impact on frames

I record gameplay to a different drive than the one I'm playing from. I only lose 2 to 5 FPS when I record gameplay.

Yeah, Fraps has quite a noticeable difference in frames for me, to the point it actually impacts my game, although that's probably down to my average graphics card

 

I'll give PlayClaw a go now quick, I'll see how it goes

But I don't upload lots of stuff so I really don't have that much of a need for recording a ton of gameplay lol

Capture cards are great, but I would rather buy a recording program for 30$ instead of a Capture Card for 200$ AND having to put up with all the cable salad

Hello everyone.

 

My parents set our home router to allow me one culmulative hour of internet access per day.

Because of this, I'll be on here quite a bit less.

 

I'm not posting this for sympathy; I do spend too much time on the internet, quite frankly.

It's just to let you know why my participation has lessened.

They don't really think the internet is evil or anything like that. (The router also is a content filter though, to block porn sites, etc.)

They don't know of my involvement with this site, but they realized that I was spending too much time on my computer.

 

It's also interestingly changed the way I've started to browse the web in order to stretch the time out. For example, I load this forum's index, log out of the router, then queue threads I want to read. Then I load them all at once and log out of the router so it doesn't take up time while I read the pages. If I have any comments to post, I log back in and post them all at once.
