Has anyone ever thought about using the duodecimal (base12) instead of the decimal system (base10)?

 

We would count:

1 - 1

2 - 2

3 - 3

4 - 4

5 - 5

6 - 6

7 - 7

8 - 8

9 - 9

T - 10

E - 11

10 - 12

 

common fractions like ½ ¼ ⅓ would be way easier!

½ of 10 = 5    ½ of 12 = 6

¼ of 10 = 2.5   ¼ of 12 = 3

⅓ of 10 = 3.333   ⅓ of 12 = 4

 

And we could divide the clock up in twelfths.
So, when the clock points at the 1, then it is 5 minutes after the full hour.

but in duodecimal, when the clock points at 1 it is ¹/₁₂ after the full hour :comeatus:

 

and look at your fingers!

You have 4 fingers, divided up in 3 sections each!

4*3=12! We could still count with our fingers!

 

Of course it would be strange to suddenly learn this, but imagine all the advantages!!!
