There are black and white hats worn by the people. (The person left of the wall is irrelevant) If the 2 people closer to the right side of the wall were wearing the same color (black), the 3rd person in the right would have said white since he can't be wearing black, or there wouldn't be any white hats! It's tricky to explain.
