Keen noticed a knock on his door. He turned to see the pony who asked him the question. Keen said, "Yeah... I got here kinda late. But I'm really excited about all the learning! I wonder how advanced these courses are." In his mind, Keen said to himself, 'Gah! You know ponies don't talked about advanced courses! Looks like social standing might be even worse than it usually is...' Embarrassed after his thought, he said, "Um... I- uh, I mean- ah, never mind..." He just looked down, feeling stupid about actually saying that.

OOC~ Classes haven't started yet... They won't start for another three roleplay-days... just so you know.. you don't have to study yet and we don't exactly have our books yet...

 

Epic sat down and waited for Nova to react to her actions. She pulled out her phone and started texting her friend from high school.

"Don't even try that on me. You seriously think I'm onr of those flanking ponies who will get ticked off just becausr your being yourself? Well, surprise I'm not. I'm taking an advanced course too, and it's not my major. So don't be afraid to be yourself. I'm Lightning Nova, by the way."

Keen's mind was suddenly flooded with thoughts. He hadn't seen a pony like this before. He was always left out just because he was so interested in knowledge. He said, "What- what just happened? I've always been rejected for being so eager to learn! I'm so happy, now I can finally be myself! Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I'm Keen Newhoof, nice to meet you. And sorry I'm so excited, it's just I've never been treated this way... It's so nice to feel like this!" So many thoughts were going through his head. He had always been treated as an outcast, but now he realized that there was truly a way for a pony like him to find a place! Maybe he could finally have more friends than he had before! His mind was racing at a thousand miles a minute, so to say. But, thinking again over what he had been told by Lightning Nova, he sensed that she might have a grudge against the type of ponies that outcasted himself. He was just too curious. He asked, "Wait a minute... were you left out because of difference too...?"

A shadow passed over her face. "Yes..something did happen. It's just not something I'm ready to share, until I completely trust you enough." Lightning Nova looked up at him. "Just don't let bullies get to you, I promise-I know what it feels like." Lightning Nova tucked a strand of mane behind her ear, and looked up at him. ''You should come by my dorm sometime, I'm sure Epic Rainbow would be glad to meet you. She's my roomate by the way."

He had been quite near alone his entire life, but now the friendliness from just this one pony seemed to be a sign that everyone here would be accepting. This one act of kindness had freed him from his own trap, the one that kept him from trying to be friendly. It felt better to him than his first A (which was very special to him).  He smiled.

"She's probably still in the cafeteria with her new coltfriend; Nova Flyer. My new coltfriend; Frost is probably still hanging out with them as well if you want to meet them." *looks him straight in the eyes* "Don't be fake around them. I promise they will accept you for who you are."

Keen was already so happy, he didn't know how to deal with this. Now there are four ponies that she says are so accepting? He could barely keep from screaming with excitement. "Thank you so much! I'm so glad that I'll actually fit in here! I probably won't eat anything, but I think I'll go there to meet them." He started walking to the door, when he said, "Oh... sorry if it seems sort of odd for me to say this, but could you show me to the cafeteria?" 

"It's not odd at all! I probably won't stick around, though. I'm going to go back to my dorm and take a nap. I have to get up early and do some flight practice." Lightning Nova gestured for him to follow her, and when she noticed he was, Lightning started walking in the direction of the cafeteria, where her friends were.

When Epic kissed Nova on the cheek, he felt a weird 'buzzing' going on in his head for a moment. Well, that was unexpected, Nova though. Not that I'm complaining or anything... He looked at the photo Epic showed him, and raised an eyebrow. "Well it wouldn't have been my first guess, that's for sure. What happened to her, if ya don't mind me asking?"  

 

(By the way, I'm going to BronyCAN tomorrow, so I probably won't be posting here until Sunday. Just a heads-up!)

Epic sighed and replied, "Well, her name is Death Skull. My mom named her that because she looked like a Death Skull and she thought it would be an awesome name. She was always jealous of me for some reason. Probably because I was always so liked. Anyway, the day I got my cutie mark, she was so jealous she killed somepony and got her cutie mark. Then she was sent away to live in the Canterlot Mental Institution. But, now she got out of her straight-jacket somehow and escaped the facility. She's searching Equestria for me so she could kill me. I'm just warning you to look out for her."

"Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that, that must be an awful thing to have to think about all the time." Nova said sympathetically. "Do you remember a time when she wasn't jealous of you at all? I didn't really get to know my siblings...but they were never hostile towards me or anypony else. Something had to have happened somewhere along the way so cause that change. No one's born 'evil'."

Lightning Nova arrived, Keen right behind her. "Yo, guys. I was about to take a nap when I started talking to this guy. His name's Keen, and Keen these are my friends- Epic Rainbow, Nova Flyer, and my coltfriend Frost. See you guys later, I am going to go back to my dorm."

Keen smiled. "Okay, see you Lightning!" He turned to the group of ponies, and remembered what Lightning said about them, remembering her saying that they would accept him. He was nervous, but he just kept his cool and said, "Hi, as you heard... I'm Keen... I got here a bit late. So, uh... anyone want to talk about how they want to use the stuff they learn here?" He tried his hardest to ignore his self-criticizing thoughts. Keen took a seat at the table.

Frost looked at the new pony who sat down next to him and then waved at Lighting as she left. "So Keen huh? Good to meet you I'm Frost. Majoring in Aronautic Technologies, weird since I'm a unicorn." he said shaking Keen's hoof. "Any friend of Lighting is a friend of mine

Keen smiled. "Okay, see you Lightning!" He turned to the group of ponies, and remembered what Lightning said about them, remembering her saying that they would accept him. She waved at him from the doorway, and yelled "You can do it!" Then flew rather lazily out of the room. She grabbed the dormkey, and unlocked the door. Lightning landed on the ground, and walked slowly over to her bed. She got on the bed, and fell asleep instantly, not bothering to pull the covers over herself

"Nice to meet you, Frost! I'm learning about physics and chemistry, and maybe some mechanics... I can't remember, there's just so many things I was going to learn! Anyways, I always liked to look at the stars, and I thought, what if we could get up there somehow? Since of course our planet is round, what if something was falling sideways and outside of the atmosphere? That thing would stay up there for a long time! Sorry if it's complicated, but I really think that it would be cool if we could get things to stay up in space. Whatt do you think about that idea?" Keen said.

Frost nodded at the idea. "From a engineering stand point I'm sure that if we could have enough thrust to propel the ponies and the pod which would have to be pressurized it might be possible, but it would be time consuming and expensive." he said shaking his head hoping he hadn't bored the pony.

Keen replied, "Well, yes. I've thought of those problems before, in fact they're probably the most significant ones I've come across. I've thought of propulsion methods, and I thought maybe it would be propelled by combustion, like a firework rocket. Although, another problem would be how much thrust there is relative to the weight... There is definitely a way around this but I haven't come across such a solution." Keen was excited at how such an intellectual conversation seemed so normal. He never had such an experience before.

Frost was happy to find somepony who could understand as well as withstand his engineer babling. "That's true," he said thinking the problem over. "what if ther was a more compact version of the ignitiant, I'm sure that could get it off the ground long enough for the main, then secondary thrusters to take effect." he replied

Keen replied, "Yeah, that would probably be a good solution, probably the best one even. Although, if we sent ponies up, they would need supplies like food, water, and obviously air. Find the easiest way to compress or recycle those would also be a toughie. Maybe if the food was dehydrated. Although, there's still the need to filter the carbon dioxide from the air to make it re-breathable. Maybe kind of like the rebreathers used by scuba divers."  Keen quickly realized that putting his mind together with Frost was a very good way to have a good time and come up with ideas at the same time.

Frost began to realize that they could go far if they came up with the right ideas so he became even more excited. "The dehydrated food is an excellent idea!" he began smiling. "With the rebreatheable air problem, we can take your idea and make it larger: we could make the living capsule just one big rebreather, with vents, tanks, filters." he said almost falling out of his seat.

Keen's mind was quite likely to be the first to be blown by a thermonuclear blast! (His mind was blown hard) He and Frost thinking together were like a supercomputer! They sure were pumping out ideas! Keen then remembered something. Firework rockets run off gunpowder, but when they're lit they can't be shut down. That would be a problem. Keen decided to voice this, because he and Frost would definitely be able to brainstorm an idea. Keen said, "Looks like we've got some good ideas! I found one problem though. You know how I thought the propulsion would be like a firework? I just remembered that since fireworks run on solid fuel that it couldn't be shut down. We might need to find some other powerful propulsion that can be controlled better. Maybe there's some sort of liquid fuel that could be used... but then how would it burn? Things that burn need oxygen to keep burning."

Frost was liking the ideas, he knew finding more problems early on was better than fining the later. "What if there was a remote activated ignition, with that we could add a kill switch if something was out of place." he said thinking about the fuel. "For the rockets that just need to get off the ground we could add a compact liquid ignitiant, once that is ignited the countdown will start until the primary then secondary thrusters ingauge. Thus pulling away from the lift off thrusters when the fuel has run dry in it." he said ideas pouring out of his head as if it were a waterfall.

Keen was overjoyed by this cooperative thought process. He said, "Yeah, that sounds like a great way to control thrust. Although,  there's still things like getting back to Equestria from space. We'd need a very heat resistant pod to counteract the heat from orbiting so fast then going into the atmosphere. There would also probably have to be very strong parachutes to slow down for a landing. Also, we'd definitely need to be able to get any ponies that came back from space to the right place. It would be bad if they landed in another country, then there'd be political issues over it."
