Hello everyone! Id like to see if there is any interest in helping out with making a timelapse video in minecraft. The project at present is secret, but if you are at all interested in helping you can sign up here.

REFERENCE MATERIAL AND ARCHITECTURAL GUIDES

This section contains content to help you, the people working in the timelapse, get an idea of what it is we are going to build and get inspired. Before we begin anything, it would be to your benefit to look this over and even do some of your own research. 

Architectural information:

As you may or may not know, Im a bit of an architecture nut. As such, I usually find doing some of this research helpful.

 

We will be building a port town and an accompanying fort in 1812 architectural stylings. The most common styles at the time were Georgian architecture, and the beginnings of Federal architecture began to sprout from this as well. Our main material will be brick, but I will have a pallet of material set out for us to use in the lets build. Seeing as the Georgian architecture of brick and stucco was meant for only wealthy merchants, we will have to build very few of these brick houses, and they should all be centrally located and within close proximity of a market square. Our market can be a small to medium size, but it must include two things: 1) seeing as this is a port town, it must be close to a harbor. Good news is that we dont need to invent something for the market to sell, its going to be only fish, fruit, and cash crops. Bad news is that we will have to build boats, but from the pictures you all have sent me, it appears that we have some experience with that. Excellent! Because I cant build boats. 2) Our Market must also have a fountain, but it must be located away from the shoreline. We wouldnt want to contaminate the plumbing with salt water. With these two constraints in mind, our town may end up taking an L shape, but again, we can talk specifics later, or I may draft a map. There are going to be two real focus points to this town: The fort and the townhall/courthouse. As far as Im concerned, the fort is going to be the key element, as that marks our town as a key military position. Key battle strategy should be kept in mind when making buildings closer to the fort. However, there will still be a sufficient gap between the town and the fort. We wouldnt want civilians being bombed in the event of a war. The fort will draw lots of fire, and a such it must be away from the town.

Id love for this town to be perfectly architecturally designed, meaning its built the same way a real town would be built. :3 I trust that we can all do it together.

Anyway, everything above that line is not very important to you unless you are a nerd. Our main goal is to have fun and build stuff. With that in mind, here are some reference and inspirational pictures. Feel free to do your own research on this though. Just google things like "Fort Mifflin" and "Fort McHenry" as well as Georgian and Federal architecture. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

RULES

• Have fun
• Have fun
• Dont touch what someone else is building unless they invite you to or they are struggling. 
• Try and adhere to the building pallet as best you can. Using similar looking materials is acceptable in some cases. (IE different wood types, Glass vs glass panes, etc)
• Try not to use Vanilla trees. Im already upset that WorldPainter used them on my map. Build your own trees! Its more fun and they look nicer. if you want to make it look like its all tree bark, just remember 17:12, 17:13, and 17:14. Ill show you what they do later.
• Try and get clearance before building an important structure on your own. (IE a rich house, a small civic structure, a fountain, etc.)
• This fort is going to be huge. Dont be afraid to pause whatever part you are working on and go work on something else. This is meant to be fun, not bore you half to death.
• Unfortunately, I cant send anyone the world file just yet. If you are patient enough, I may be able to get it to you in at least a week. If I say no to giving the file, you will simply have to trust me.

• Let me show you how a cannon idea before anyone makes one :3

Here is what I need people to help with:

 

Someone who can record everything either in game or with Camera Studio mod

I need one person to do this at least, a maximum of two. Someone who is familiar with the mod, can become familiar quickly, or at least has a second minecraft account to have a user stand there and record everything.

I've never used the Camera Studio mod, and I have limited experience with Voxel (I can do it in a pinch, though). My real strength lies in my experience with vanilla Minecraft. I have played the game for almost three years and I like to think I'm half-way decent at building and redstone.

 

So yeah. Builder or something.

I'll have to see if I can get world saves from old server owners. I never took screenshots, unfortunately. If I can't, I'll just whip something up in creative later.

I can probably lend my account for recording. I have Fraps, but I'll take a look at the mod.

 

The only possible thing that might hold me back is timezones. I live in GTM -3, and I'm pretty busy throughout the week, so I might have limited time schedules. But we'll see.

 

EDIT: Are you planning on using the Brony Modpack from the FTB launcher? It has voxel-everything and MineLittlePony, so everyone looks like ponies.

I used to be very good at redstone and building, though I have not played minecraft for ages so I don't know what has been changed. What do you mean with the record thing? How long are you supposed to record? I mean I'm thinking like if one could just join and then be still in the air recording.. I'm a bit confused

I wouldnt struggle that hard with it. Id just whip something up, it would be faster.

Fraps could work fine, but I believe that Camera Studio mod will let you take some really good cinematic footage. 

Also, if it at all possible for you to use a shader, I would encourage doing so. 

 

Timezones shouldnt be too much of a problem. We can work out a schedule a bit later ^^

 

Also, no, we will do this entirely in Vanilla minecraft 1.6.2 for the time being.

I think sitting in the air would work as a last resort, but I believe that if you have a good computer, you can use this mod and take high quality cinematic footage. I have no idea how it works though. 

 

If you arent interested in recording you could always help as a builder! If you happen to have pictures of some of your old builds, or if you are able to throw something small together in creative mode that would be beneficial!

This week (IE tomorrow or two days from now). It shouldnt take very long with 8 people working on it. I think we will try to make a revolutionary/civil war style fort and a small town next to it. 

 

Something akin to this, and then a Jefferson/gregorian architecturally-styled town.

um I have also built a 3D maze, it's a gigantic cube, which is built by different rooms. Each room is 10x10x10 and the cube is built by 10x10x10 cube-rooms. Each room is connected with a tunnel, to go up or down there's a ladder. to go to any of the rooms on the same floor there's redstone work with a wall that opens up once you step on the pressure plate. Though since it's a labyrinth, some of the paths are blocked or some of them are one way enters. It is probably one of my largest builds. Sadly, I can't show a picture or something cause it's on a random freebuild server I don't remember the name of. Floating islands or something. idk.

That is a huge maze Thats super cool!

 

The 3D maze though... Was that on Tich's server per chance? I feel like I helped him with something similar before. I just wired up a couple traps for him, but he was working on something even based on a movie called "The Cube". Im not accusing you of copying or anything like that, I just wondered if perhaps you knew of it by some strange coincidence.

Also, I did some testing. Here are the results:

 

Shaders + Camera Studio = horrible video. The shader makes it so that Camera Studio has a hard time recording stuff. Like, the video turn out to be glitchy i.e. the shadows keep jumping everywhere when it's recording, even though it seems fine while playing the game. I can't seem to fix it either. So we might have to settle with either Camera Studio or use a shader. I vote for Camera Studio, since camera angles are more valued than shaders.

Voxel Sniper is a bukkit plugin. No downloads required! ^^

 

Ok, well lets go with just camera studio then! Shouldnt be too difficult.
