Gladius sighed. Perfect. No sooner does he find a position serving under a captain he really likes and respects than it turns out he may not be long for this world. "That's... worrying. I'd hate for something to happen to the captain so soon after we get started. Do we have any orders until he wakes up?"

Caly shook her head.

 

"None." Caly eyed Gladuis warily. "I'm Caly, by the way. Or Calypso Dia, If you prefer my long name."

 

His name starts with a 'G'... I think... Right? And it ends in a 's'. I'm pretty sure about that. I wonder if he knew my mother. He seems too young to know her. Maybe he knows them.

Swift tries his best to muster strength. His mind was active but he could hardly move his body over the pain. It was dreadfully embarrassing for him to be degraded to this.

 

Swift managed to let out a slight whisper.

Jaeger was about to leave when he thought he

heard his name. He turned to see Captain Swift move just a tiny bit in his bed. He rushed over and fell back on his rump next at the bed's side. "Yes Captain, I'm right here do you need something." he asked frantically.

Swift continued to whisper meekly.

 

"Tell the bloody surgeon... I think it's the wounds I took at Gallopreys *cough* Bay... The Surgeon on the Canterlot there may have been further... damage *cough*... And damn it boy, get me some Whiskey..."

 

Swift was struggling to remain conscious. He only hoped the boy had heard him.

Jaeger nodded slowly. "Yes sir right away." he said as he got up and got out his flask of whiskey and layed it on the Captain's chest. "To start you off sir." he muttered as he ran back out on to the deck to find the surgeon. All the crew members who had awoken were still there. "Hey! Where in the hell is the bloody surgeon?!" he yelled so if the surgon were far he could be heard.

Gladius nodded. He had to admit that he wasn't really used to anything but the most basic social interaction, and as a result, he was rather stiff and awkward, clearly a bit uncomfortable. "I'm Gladius. I command the ship's marines. It's... good to meet you, miss."

Caly noticed Gladius' awkwardness, and thought it was kinda cute. But then again, most things were kinda cute to her.

 

"Tell me Gladius, do you know of a ship by the name of 'Blackrock Hollow'? I have.... business to attend to on that ship." Like murdering those bastards who killed my mother.

Gladius thought for a minute. When he spoke, it was perhaps a bit less awkward, but only just. "I think I may have heard of it, yes. It certainly sounds familiar, but I suppose I could be mistaken. At any rate, I can't say I really remember anything about it off the top of my head, just that the name sounds familiar. But I'll tell you if I remember anything, I guess."

Afraid that she would interfere, Leaves had hung back and watched the others rush about. The mare treating the captain seemed to be rather cranky (it was probably best not to cross her), and she looked around for something productive to do, not wanting to stand about stupidly. She saw two ponies idly talking and she turned to them, staring them down.

"You two, there!" she said, trying not to sound too harsh but still commanding. "Have you nothing to do? Our captain is in danger, I'm rather certain that you can get something done to help. What are your names?"

Gladius turned to Leaves and saluted. "Sergeant Gladius, ma'am. As a matter of fact, ma'am, I had just been asking Midshipman Calypso if we had any standing orders while the captain was in his current state."

"I'm Calypso Dia, ma'am." She said, addressing the mare, and not bothering to identify herself as Caly.

 

"And there's nothing for us to do to help the captain, ma'am."

 

Wait to throw me under the ship, Gladius. At least he's heard of the Blackrock Hollow. If he remembers anything... They're all dead.

"Oh," said Leaves, and she seemed a bit dumbstruck. She racked her brains for some orders to give them. Failing to see any, she responded quietly, so as to not disturb the others, her Welsh accent a little thicker. "Well, you two should probably get some sleep if you have nothing to do; tomorrow will be a busy day and we'll probably need as much help with the captain as possible. Is there anything you require?"

"No, ma'am. I'll be off to my room then..." Caly said, then left Gladius and Leaves.

 

Maybe I'll talk to Gladius when the ship isn't in a state of panic... See what he knows about Blackrock Hollow. He was pretty cute, maybe I won't just talk to him about the Blackrock.

 

Caly was asleep as soon as she hit the sheets, and had troubling dreams of the stallions on the Blackrock Hollow murdering her mother and the captain.

Gladius looked at her a bit strangely. "No, ma'am, I'm just fine. If it's all the same to you, I think I'm going to go get some more fencing practice in. I'm not really tired enough to go to sleep right now anyway, and there's always room for me to improve my technique."

When the Captain came around for the second time, Lume was, once again, immediately shoved off the way by the others. She thought she'd heard Captain Swift calling out for Jaeger, which then again, rather upset her. She decided to stay out of their private discussion for the time being, crossing her arms and puffing up her cheeks in a sign of annoyance.

 

It called the mare's attention when a flask of whiskey was brought up, but she decided not to ask anything about it - again, clearly showing her unpleasantness. Right after that, Jaeger raised up and started searching for the ship's surgeon. The same 'teenager rebel' expression still present, she simply whistled to call his attention and raised a hoof.

 

"Oh, am I needed now? How swell! For a moment, I thought you ponies didn't even need a bloody medic aboard..."

Jaeger looked over at Lume who raised her hoof and called him over. "Lume there you are, thank Celestia! Captain Swift told me that his illness could be caused from his recent wounds from the .......some battle, you'll have to ask him, and he said more damage was caused from the surgery that was preformed. Now he wants you." he said almost out of breath

"Wounds from a recent battle?... Surgery?..." Lume quietly asked herself, thoughtful. She dragged her stool back near the bed where the Captain was resting and began examining his body. There were, indeed, quite a few scars around the general area of his arms and legs.

 

"I see those are aftereffects from the Battle of Whatever then..." She sighed. "Then again, all I can do is ease his pain whenever those breakdowns happens... Especially since another surgery was already performed, I can't do much about the wounds anymore." She leaned her head slightly closer to Swift. "Tell me... What can I do for you?"

Swift was in a state of semi-consciousness. He could hear but he could hardly move or open his eyes. He tried his best to get his message to the doctor.

 

"Damn it doctor *cough* do your job." Swift sputtered.

 

"There never was a surgery. The ship's surgeon was *sputter* killed in the fighting *cough*." Swift said. He was increasingly aware of how weak his voice was.

Lume's eyes shot wide open. "No surgery? Damn... No wonder it's hurting like hell." She said while staring with some repugnance at the battle marks all over Swift's body. "Well... At least now I finally know what to do!... And I don't think Your Lordship will like it." Without asking for permission, she grabbed the whiskey bottle that Jaeger had brought earlier to the Captain and took a deep gulp of it.

 

"I'll have to open up the wounds... Clean off the blotted blood, properly disinfect it, sterilize it... Hope your limbs hadn't undergone necrosis yet." She took another whiskey sip. "I'll need all the help I can get from the crew. But foremost, I need your agreement on this, Cap'n."

Swift had had surgery once, ten years ago. It was most unpleasant, and he wasn't even remotely excited to go through the ordeal again. 

 

Swift gasped. "Get it over with *cough* doctor*cough*." He said in the strongest voice he could conjure. As weak as it turned out to be.

Jaeger looked over at the Captain and then back to Lume with a worried expression. "Should I leave you be then? I would be more than happy to go and fetch the supplies for the surgery if you would like?" he said slowly backing towards the door in an awkward fashion.

"What's that, cupcake? Can't handle a little blood?" Said Lume, tauntingly, followed by a joyful laugh. "I'm just messing with you, mate... In fact, now that I think about it, I would actually prefer to be alone with our patient... You know, because of the pressure and all of that." She rose up from the stool and began searching the first-aid kit once again - but not before taking another sip of the bottle of whiskey, leaving it almost empty already. It was a rather small bag the first-aid kit, and it didn't seem to contain everything she needed for the upcoming surgery.

Bring me both of them - the suitcase and the bag - as well as an empty bucket and a bowl of boiling water." Lume turned back to Swift Sail, and immediately after, back to Jaeger again. "Oh, and make sure to tell the others about this... As I said, I don't want any interruptions after I begin."

Jaeger nodded. "Yes ma'am." he said as he backed out of the door and turned to go find Lume's quarters. Once he had found it he opened the door and inspected the room, first he located the bed, then the armchair. He went over to the bed knelt down and retrieved the suitcase. He then moved to the armchair and grabbed the bag. He strapped them both on before finally going to the kitchen to get the boiling pale of water. "Afraid of a little blood my flank." he scoffed to himself as he waited for the water to boil. Once he saw bubbling he grabbed the handle in his mouth and walked back to the top deck. He set down the bucket so he could relay Lume's message. "Oiy! The Cap's not to be disturbed  GOT IT!" he yelled so the whole crew could here him. He picked the bucket back up and trotted into the Captain's quarters. He set the supplies down next to Lume and smilied. "Here you are. Anything else you require ma'am?" he said tipping his hat.

"I have soem alcohol you can use for disinfectant," said Connor. "I'll leave you be once the surgery starts, but until then, I'm staying by my captain's side. What battle was this again, captain? Did I hear you say... Gallifrey? I have a friend from there, beautiful place he says."
