The essence of a reboot is to rewrite a story or even start a new one. The idea that something has to be just like it's predecessor or even be connected to it only limits a franchise.

 

Plus the new DmC, aside from being extremely easy which is a downer for some people, is ten times the game any other game in the franchise was. Far more creative and well-designed levels, the story is far better and Dante is a better character than he ever was in the original games. Games like DmC should be saving the company but the fact that they outsourced it means they had to spend a ton of money on that as well.

 

Also, some people are mentioning Mighty No. 9 in this topic but I don't think it's associated with Capcom in any way. Keiji Inafune is creating it himself which is why there was a kickstarter for it so it could be funded since he's not with Capcom anymore.

 

The issue with DMC is it's tone. The entire point of Dante was that he defied many of the "badass" stereotypes and managed to be cool with personally and charisma alone without acting like a try-hard douchebag that dropped cluster f-bombs, scewed everything, acted like a sadist, and acted like a dick to everyone.

That is exactly the opposite of how I would describe DmC Dante. He's a dick to his enemies, yeah, but to his allies he actually showed quite a bit of compassion. Also, there was really only like two or three times in the game when he f-bombed anything and the worst of it was the fight with Succubus and that moment was actually pretty funny.

As for Capcom, they've made a lot of right decisions lately with games like Dragon's Dogma and DmC so if done right they can pull themselves out of the hole easily.

He just rubs me the wrong way, I rather have the old version and the old tone. Dark and gritty is fine and all, but it just doesn't fit DMC, which is more on the fantasy and supernatural horror side of things.

I stopped buying Capcom stuff a couple of years ago. I don't regret, they deserve what its happening to them. They handled everything wrong; they used to be one of the best and most respectful companies, but those times have passed.

Maybe if Capcom didn't make so many idiotic decisions, they wouldn't be in this mess to begin with. But that's what happens when you have a large ego and think that your way is best. I could care less if Capcom goes under. It will be no one's fault but their own.
