I need a name for a city! I'm trying to come up with something for the future city which Ariel and Galatea lived in. Surprisingly, I'd never actually given that much thought to it. And it should sound, um, futuristic?

Are there any sort of defining characteristics, or aesthetic touches to the city? I might be able to come up with something based off that. As for if it should sound futuristic, it's really up to you, as it's your creation. It can be anything from a simple name (Diadem City, for example), or something elaborate.

(Diadem, in case you did not know, is a type of crown. So if it's a capital, that might work

Oh, haha. I'm assuming the world is still fairly new in your mind? It's to be expected if it's not entirely developed in its early stages. That's what brainstorming's for!

Personally, I'm the kind of person that obsesses over character and world building. I've created multiple societies, factions, and environments for various different works, both MLP fanon and my own personal worlds. And nearly every character I give a name to, whether they are a prominent character or just a background filler character, has a back-story, even if it never does come to light.

But that's just the way I operate I'm curious to see what you come up with in terms of atmosphere for your dystopian future!

I'm now planning on bringing Nano into the roleplay, so here is a reference image of him and his personality profile:

About Nano: As you already know, Nano is Galatea's creation. He considers her his mother, and misses her like she misses him.

 

He was programmed with an AI capable of learning and adapting. Upon his initial activation, he was more "robotic" and less pony-like. But with this intuitive AI, he soon began to adopt certain traits from the ponies he spends time around. First, it was Galatea's caring and protectiveness, and Ariel's paranoia (which he picked up on regardless of her trying to conceal it); after spending a year in Ponyville, he's befriended the Mane Six and has now taken on traits from them. Twilight's curiosity and thirst for knowledge; Rarity's attention to detail; Rainbow Dash's sarcasm; and Pinkie Pie's optimism, all of which are combined and integrated into Nano's own personality. However, he has spent the most time around Fluttershy, who first found him after he arrived in Ponyville. As a result, the traits he adopted from her are most prominent. He is kind and gentle for the most part, and perhaps just a little timid when placed in situations he's unfamiliar or uncomfortable with.

 

After a year, he has been accepted by the residents of Ponyville as a resident himself. As mentioned before, the Mane Six are his friends, although he was at first wary of Twilight and Rarity due to their race (his almost-deadly encounter with Ariel had left him mistrusting of unicorns for some time; a natural reaction for any pony that has been through a similar situation).

 

Fun facts:

 

-- He was built with a "battle mode" in which he gains a variety of weapons to defend himself with; however, Ariel had managed to deactivate it prior to their encounter, and it remains deactivated to this day since no pony has the knowledge to fix such a thing. Were the battle mode active, however, it should be known that his personality changes when he activates it. He was programmed to become aggressive when battle mode is activated; this is a fail-safe of sorts, to prevent his true personality from interfering with using the battle mode properly.

 

-- He was designed to be a "realistic" AI. Not only is he capable of learning and reasoning, but he is capable of feeling emotions; for those who don't believe robots can experience emotions, he emulates them very well. To aid him in being more emotive, he was designed with parts that allow him to be able to produce tears.

What is your posting method? Mobile, desktop?

It may have something to do with that. One other sights I've found my phone messes up the word 'expression' by making it 'exp-<b>-</b>-ession'.

 

Or it might even be your browser. I can not really say for sure, as I've not had the problem. You can always go to the 'help' section and ask there from individuals who may be more knowledgeable than I.

Hmm, been a while since I've posted here... Just here to say I haven't forgotten about this thread, same for the roleplay thread itself. I simply like to wait for everyone else that has participated to post first before I post again, which may or may not be a bad habit of mine.  

And also, for those that know what I'm talking about, I've been thinking about when Ariel should run into Galatea and Nano. Because I do plan this to happen at some point, though not sure exactly when, and, well... Let me just say that it shall be one interesting encounter.

So, I got bored in my college computer class (no work to do at the moment, yay), and I decided to do a little bit of fun research. As a result, I've determined what mental conditions Ariel might be diagnosed with were she to be examined by a psychologist. Here's what they are, and a brief description, as well as how they relate to Ariel.

 

Schizophrenia: Ariel is out of touch with reality. She is mostly delusional, set in her warped beliefs. Sometimes, she may see reason, but for the most part she is irrational, if only in her thoughts. And speaking of, at times her thoughts are disorganized; it can be hard for her to piece them together into coherent phrases. She also occasionally suffers hallucinations, largely in the form of a voice that she hears in her head. She has come to believe that this is the "cursed" part of her speaking to her; or, when she is in the middle of an "episode," it would be interpreted as the "sane" part speaking to her. If she is not already suffering an episode when she hears the voice, it will likely lead into an episode or an anxiety attack.

 

Psychopathy: When Ariel goes through one of the aforementioned "episodes," she tends to display psychopathic tendencies. Her mind completely snaps when this happens. She loses any sense of right and wrong, acts on impulse, and shows no regret or remorse for what she does while in this state. An ideal example is written right in her backstory. When that first mental break occurred, she wanted to disassemble Nano (in effect, "killing" the robot pony) for no other reason than the fact that he unfortunately happened to be the one closest by. She wanted to make ponies suffer the way she had in the earlier years of her life, and she would have enjoyed every moment of it had she been allowed to go through with it.

 

That's all I've been able to find for now, but I may add more if I come across something interesting.

 

Oh, and one more thing. Obviously, Ariel has not exhibited an "episode" in this roleplay as of yet. But when she encounters Galatea and Nano, which will happen sooner or later... She will experience a mental break. And that's all I'll say for now.

Well, hmm. I have an opportunity presented to me, and yet I'm not sure if I should take it now or not.

 

With the way things are going at the present time in the roleplay... I could easily have Ariel bump into Galatea and Nano right now (literally) without her even realizing who she's run into until she takes a second look. Yet, should I? Should I make such an event happen so immediately, or wait a while longer to see what further developments may come beforehand?

 

I really don't know. I could perhaps use a second opinion?

Thunder Dash heard that she was from the future and was pretty amazed. "I've heard of time traveling ponies before, but this is actually the first time I meet one." Thunder Dash said. "So, you still up for the offer? Or would you rather stay here and chat for a little while longer?" Thunder Dash as,ed.

Galatea chuckled at the mention of time-traveling ponies. "I suppose you could call me that, but honestly, I'm not really that proficient in time travel. It took me the longest time to find my way here, and I'm really not sure how I'll get back." That was the main error she now saw in hindsight; she had thought of no way to return to the future. The only option she could think of was to get to a lab somewhere and work on another device that would return her and Nano to the future, since the original device she used to get here in the first place was lost in the rift. "Either way, I'll have to respectfully decline your offer. I'd like to stay with Nano a while longer. We have quite a lot to catch up on," she said as she looked back and the robot pony and smiled.
