I was there at the time specified

Here and waiting by the minutes ticking by

Alone amongst the hundreds of faces

Alone with my mind, as it played tricks on my eyes

There, and there again, your face amongst the crowd

I was there at the time specified

 

Heard the news after I went home again

The time I waited, and you were no longer here

And in my mind, the clockwork rang

As I threw myself into the good night

I didn’t want to wake up again

 

I awoke that morning, my eyes filled with tears

Held myself in control, and tried not to cry

Your smile was not there to greet me

Your promise laid to waste as I lay alone

 

I go to our special place every day, it seems

Here alone with my thoughts of you, no longer here

A flower and a happy thought, my only gifts for you anymore

I’ll lay them by your memory, and greet them again tomorrow
