Treasure Hunters of the Cascade Sea (RP Thread)

This is a swashbuckling high-seas adventure where danger thrives and a precious reward awaits anypony brave enough to see the voyage through to the end.

OOC Thread

Captain Razor Sharp is renowned as one of the greatest sailors ever, until he is one day challenged to find the long lost gold city of the Ancient Ones. But to find it, he must sail through the monster infested waters of the Cascade Sea and visit the inhospitable islands to find four pieces of a map that should guild him there. While there is no guarantee of return, Razor Sharp asks for volunteers and must put his trust in them, as well as his faithful ship, the Dark Fortune.

Plot Twist Rules:
Before the roleplay, each player will be given a personal message. Inside the message is a randomly determined plot twist to use on your character at any moment you see fit during the roleplay. These plot twists will be extreme, as well as game changing.

1) Keep your plot twist a secret from the other players until the moment you decide to use it.
2) Any player who avoids using their plot twist before the end will meet a grim fate. (This is the only time I will use God Modding against another player, so make sure nothing... unfortunate has to happen.)
3)You are encouraged to use your imagination and put any creative spin you can onto your plot twist, so even if you don’t like it you can still find a way to make it work to your satisfaction.

Other Rules:

1) GENERAL: Follow MLP Forums’ usual rules, like no God Modding, no Mary Sues and such.
2) NARRATIVE: For simplicity sake, write all your posts with a Third Person Narrative. Don’t tell the story from the viewpoint of your character (that just makes things confusing).
3) GRAMMER: Give each post at least one spell check. Use proper spelling, divide paragraphs, use proper punctuation, etc etc. Just please make it easy for others to read what you write.
4) CENSORSHIP: Keep all content to a PG rating. No gore or blood, no sexually content or swearing. Any violence (as well as killing) should be handled in a tasteful manner.
5) CANON: This adventure is a high-seas epic fantasy. Everything in this roleplay must reflect the time period (and no using time machines to change that).
6) RELIABILITY: Only sign on if you want to. Don’t make just one post and leave forever. If other players want to continue without you, you’ll be abandoned.

Ponies:
1) DM (Captain) Razor Sharp
2) (First Mate) Gloomfury
3) (Cabinpony) Wind Whistle
4) (Navigator) Ocean Wind
5) (Chef) Amber Vox (Temporary Leave)
6) (Boatswain) Night Blade
7)
8) (Handipony) Shyla
9) (Medic) Moon Wave
10) (Master Gunner) Black Heart

This is my first time creating a roleplay, so please forgive me if I'm learning as I go. Help is appreciated.

Captain Razor Sharp tapped his hoof as he waited at the Scumm Bar with little more than his ship’s roster and his letters of marque to keep him company. All around the old sea-side tavern, ponies were dancing and ponies were partying... and they were hardly an appropriate bunch for the gamble Razor Sharp had in store. He leaned back and wondered why he dared himself to go on this ridiculous quest.

Did he honestly believe he could find the lost city of gold, left there by the Ancient Ones to be claimed?

No!

But something about his own doubt encouraged him to make the trip anyways, just to prove himself wrong about everything he believed. And while his original crew was faithful, it was high time to let them go if they wouldn’t brave the risks with him. To fill their boots, Razor Sharp paid the local fillies to put up flyers so he’d have a new crew to hire.

In the first hour or so, as it drew late into the evening, he was disappointed that nopony had yet showed. If his ship, the Dark Fortune, was not loaded by morning this would be a gamble short lived. Razor Sharp was just about to write anypony’s name into the roster just as soon as they would show... if they would show at all.

So, he continued to wait.
_____

Since I'm sure everypony doesn't want to wait for me, you can go ahead and make Razor Sharp add your name to the roster after you introduce yourselves... and then you can go sit in a corner. (if this is against the rules, please tell me immediately)

The doors to the tavern open up to reveal a dark gray pegasus stallion, with a black mane and tail and a single streak going through them both. His right eye is like the color of the ocean, while his left eye is the color of blood. The mismatched eyes scan the area, looking for a certain pony. His eyes soon land apon the one that matched the description in the flyer Captain Razor Sharp. He trots over to the captain and sits down. "You must be Razor Sharp. My name is Night Blade. I wish to join your crew" Night Blade says

Razor Sharp was so lost in his own thoughts, he was startled when he found a pony had actually come.

"Night Blade, huh? Glad to have you here with us," he said in his deep, harsh voice. After a pause, he quickly studied the pony across from him and was surprised his first recruit happened to be such an upstanding looking stallion; at least in appearance. He wasn't like the raggedy Scumm Bar patrons he was expecting.

"If you have any references, you can go ahead and leave them while I add your name to the roster," Razor Sharp said as he dipped his quill in the ink.

Shyla didn't like this bar; she was used to the comfortable and dark confines of the one she worked at, and the sour smell of wine over the freshly brewed ale she lovingly drew from the chilled taps each morning made even her nose curl a little. Her drab colours did not fit entirely well with some of the more bright characters in the joint, who danced and drank merrily. However, frivolities were not what the golem sought; and then she spied the beige and blonde stallion in the corner, orange eyes fiery in the lights of the tavern.

Instantly her heart soared with approval; the captain had an air of no-nonsense but a fair expression, and he sat straight and true, and though she could also sense the slight flickering doubt in him that only seemed to strengthen his conviction and character. Instantly Shyla felt her ancient purpose stirring; here was a master she would be proud to serve.

He appeared to be speaking with another pony, and had the look of slight surprise, as though he hadn't been expecting this. Shyla couldn't help herself; reading into the body language of others was something inherent to her, and though sometimes she felt she was cheating others it was almost inadvertent.

Now, however, was not time to gawk. Walking towards him purposefully, attempting to look determined yet kind, Shyla did her best to feed his desires for a crew. He needed people that would walk back down, and if there was something Shyla certainly was not it was someone who did a job halfway.

"Captain Sharp," she said in her raspy deep way, extending a hoof and preparing a firm shake. "I am Shyla, and I hope to be the handyman of your ship. Might I add," she continued, unable to resist, "that I'm sure you will attract an excellent crew."

Night Blade looked at his new captain with an expressionless face. "I'm pretty handy when it comes to repairing a ship" his voice was low almost emotionless. He waved at the bar keep, signaling that he wants a drink.

Night Blade takes notice to a newcomer that just walked up to his captain, but he shrugged it of as another pony coming to join the crew

Bouncing gleefully down the old seashore streets, Amber Vox made her way towards the local Scumm Bar expecting to meet a certain, presumably important somepony. Humming a melody while holding a piece of paper in her mouth, she soon sighted, above a revolving door, an unpainted, somewhat rotten wooden slab with the name of the tavern she was searching for carved in it. She halted right in front of it.

Hopefully the adventure she was about to commit to would live up to her expectations. By the looks of the tavern, however, she wondered if it would be worth her time. Being a pirate. A sailor. An adventurer. What would it be like? Fun. That was all she sought for. She assumed that the unceasing laughs and shouts of the drunken, old ponies inside were exactly demonstrating the joys of the life in the ocean. With a spark brightening up her eyes, she took a deep breath and tackled the door open, immediately lifting the paper into the air with one of her hooves.

"Good day, fellow sea dogs!" Amber exclaimed, unsure whether she knew what she was doing. "I'm searching for a pony called..." She stopped to take a peek at the paper again. "Captain Razor Sharp... Is he present?... I got his flier invitation thingy right here!" She continued waving the paper around.

Razor Sharp was writing Night Blade's name onto his ship's roster when he heard Shyla's voice and looked up from the parchment. He saw the young mare and thought his ship would do well with a handipony... or handiman if she preferred.

After he finished Night Blade's name he went straight ahead and wrote Shyla's name directly below his. "I appreciate the compliment, but I don't believe in fate," he said to the mare. "A pony decides his own fate. If I get a fine crew, that will be that and there shall be nothing more to say."

Razor Sharp went ahead and finished her name but found himself distracted by the yelling and bouncing of a certain cheerful pony somewhere in the Scumm Bar.

Night Blade finally gets his drink. He tosses a few bits to the bar keep. With the drink in his hooves, he starts celebrating his new life in peace, or as much as one can get out in public. One of his wings go into his bag and gets out a small cylinder like object. One end is a small yellow, while the rest is white. He then takes out a match and lights the cylinder type object.

Soon a smell of burning herbs is emitted from the little object. Night Blade breaths in the Toxic fumes, and lets out smoke. He picked this habit up from one of his old workers. Its a way for him to control his nerves.

Wind Whistle trotted down a street near the wharf, taking in the strong odor of fish. He liked the city alright, but it was too calm, too quiet. Nothing ever happened. Well, except for that one time an army of griffons had trampled it underfoot. That story was repeated and exaggerated far too often in his history books. The town was quite proud of its "heritage."

But it wasn't enough for him. He was a teenage stallion, he needed adventure! Excitement! A little romance wouldn't hurt either. He was a runaway, looking for the fastest, most exciting way to see the world. A poster for a bar fluttered loosely on a wall. He grinned and his wings fluttered with a thrill. He wondered if he could push his luck far enough to get to drink alcohol.

He almost ran all the way to the tavern. When he arrived he flung the doors open dramatically, making his appearance known. The barkeep glanced up boredly, then resumed pouring liquor for a customer. He made no effort to stop Wind Whistle.

Wind Whistle grinned and pumped his hoof happily. "I'm in." He trotted up to the bar. His ears pricked sharply when he heard a pony say something about 'ship' and 'position'. That meant a pirate ship for sure.

Adventures, here I come! He thought and walked over. Without his noticing, his walk turned into a swagger. Unfortunately for him, this was not ideal for balance, and he was knocked to the ground when a stallion stood up from his chair. The stranger did not seem to notice and stepped on Wind Whistle's splayed wing.

Wind Whistle shrugged the incident off (rather painfully) and stood up again. "I heard you talking about a ship," his voice cracked at the word ship. "And I thought you could use a Cabin Colt. What do you think?" He grinned childishly.

Night Blade looked over at the young stallion. "Are you sure you want ti be doing this kid?" he said after taking a puff of his cigarette and a swig of his drink. "Its going to be very dangerous, heck, we might not even survive such a journey." he finished the rest of his drink in one go.

Might not even survive. The words rang through Wind Whistle's head. His smile would have grown if that were physically possible. He cleared his throat in hopes of preventing further voice cracks. "Danger is what I've been looking for, but this fair city is rather lacking." His voice slipped back into its regular pitch. "Please? I'll do anything."

Night Blade stared at the little thrill seeker. A low chuckle was heard coming from the pegasus, and a small smirk appeared on his muzzel, "I like you kid, but the decision is up to the captain here." He looks down to his empty drink, "And if he takes you in, i'll buy you a drink."

A few seconds later, Amber frowned at the realization that nopony in the tavern seemed to be listening to what she was saying - most of them were still drinking and laughing uncontrollably. To which she couldn't complain about, after all. Still standing by the entrance, the pink mare carefully scanned the room: a group of ponies gathered around one of the tables stood out from the rest. Without thinking too much about it, she hopped her way towards the group in question.

"Hiya!" She exclaimed once again. "Do any of you, fine gentlecolts, by any chance, know of this pony called Captain Razor Sharp? I found this flier here that says he wants to form a crew and search for the... Lost gold city or something like that. Hmm?"

Gloomfury watched Razor Sharp from a dark corner of the bar. The reason why he was watching him was to make sure he was the real deal. Gloom has heard of him and his adventures. Gloom was a not that well known. But every pirate knew that no one could best him with a knife and that he was good a earning the respect of his fellow crew mates.

Gloom watches as new ponies that haven't even grown there sea legs yet sign up. 'Amateurs.' He thought. 'But it would make things a little easier.' He stayed at his table and drunk his whiskey and waited for when the time is right to sign up. He wants to see who will sign up next while still keeping his eye on Razor sharp.

@@Stancet,

As all the eager ponies crowded around Razor Sharp, A young adult mare sat in the corner. Her hazy blue eyes scanning a large scroll. Surrounding her were maps and other scrolls, also a bottle of spilled ink. It looked as though she had been there for hours...which she had been.
She decided to arrive early to meet up with the pirate captain, not knowing that he had already been there when she arrived...she sadly had gotten rather distracted with her maps and charts.

It was only when she finished scribbling something down on a piece of paper when she looked up to see several ponies crowding around one in particular...who Ocean assumed was Captain Razor Sharp.
Blushing slightly at the fact that she had noticed him there the whole time she had been there, she stuffed her many charts and maps into her bag before walking over to the colt, several scrolls falling out of her bag when she got there.
She quickly used her magic to put them back into her overflowing saddlebags before clearing her throat and politely waiting for the captain to be done speaking and addressing the ponies that had already crowded around.

The situation had really turned around, as Razor Sharp was discovering. For over an hour there wasn't a single pony even asking him about his venture, and now he was surprised there were so many ponies who were all eager to be apart of his crew. Though it was quite fortuitous, Razor Sharp didn't feel anything. He went ahead and answered everypony's questions as he wrote their names onto the roster. When he was done he tilted his head and admitted that this could be the makings of a fine crew, if he could whip them into shape.

Night Blade, Shyla, Wind Whistle, Amber Vox and Ocean Wind. Maybe he could make something out of these mares and gentlecolts. While the ponies were still crowding around him he thought he heard somepony asking him when they'd be setting sail.

Razor Sharp didn't even bother wondering who asked the question as he answered everypony all at once. "My ship, the Dark Fortune I'm sure you know, is docked at the farthest end of the pier and you'll report tomorrow, October 25th. We'll be setting sail at first light. By then you'll also have your positions assigned, so don't be late."

@@Stancet@@Driz,@,@,@@Flicker,@,

After watching Razor for a bit and the ones who signed up. Gloom thought it would be a good time to make his move. As he got closer he thought of somethings to say that would get on his good side and the crews as well. When he got up to the table he lightly brushed past a mare with a lot of maps and a gorgeous pair of eyes. He lingers on them for a bit then turned to Razor. "Evening  Captain, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind if joined you crew." He looks around at the others then back to Razor. "And not to be rude you could use someone with experience." He tuns to the others "Cause to be honest Ya'll don't really look like the pirating type." He smirks. "Yet." Back to Razor. "And If you'll have me I could help you whip this lot into shape. And to sweeten the pot, I have some medical experience from my days in the griffin military so if anyone get hurt, and I'm sure they will, I can patch them up for you. (cause we need a doc)  But I would like my position to be first mate, cause I think that where I am but suited."

Night Blade finished yet another drink, and chuckles. "Not the prating type?" a small smirk appears on his muzzle, "That may be true, but how would you know just by looking at somepony to tell if they have what it takes to be a pirate?" he opens up his left eye, the dim light in the bar reflects off of it, giving it some sort of glow. "Don't ever underestimate anything, or you might end up dead in the Cascade Sea."

Gloom smirks at the gutsy stallion. "By their caricature and by the way they hold them selves." He walks up to the stallion an look as him with his gold lifeless eyes. "And I never underestimate anyone. But If you're worried about my fate, then you must be willing to try and offer it to me. But know this, I will send you to Davy Jones myself if you try to bring me to my fate. Am I clear?"

Night Blade chuckles again, "I won't be sent to Davy Jones by somepony like you. Even if you try." he slams the rest of his drink in one go "Just remember this," his eye glows dark red, "fear the shadow, and all that dwell within." and with that, his body forms a dark shadow and disappears from sight

Gloom didn't bad an eyelash. "I've stared death in the face more then once and I've seen the darkness that dwell in a beings heart and never felt fear. Only anger and regret. So if you looking to strike fear by running away and not in look me in the eye when I'm talking to you. Then you don't have the balls to be a pirate. And I can smell you in the corner." He says as he looks his way.

For once in the entire time he has been there Night Blade laughs. "I like you. You don't seem like such a bad pony." he gets up and trots back to where he originally was. "I wasn't trying to strike fear in you, that's my way of having fun." the dark grey pegasus gets out another cigarette, "Besides, if we are going to be a crew, might as well get along with everyone."

In through the doors of the pub walked a small golden mare. Not much could be seen of her face or physique, as she wore a dark cloak with the hood up. She had her wings tucked snugly into the cloak. They were hidden well. Nopony would notice them.

She assumed the lot she was looking for was among the rowdiest. There was one rather large one - he must be twice her size, at least - who was trying to look intimidating. There was a grey one with a cigarette. She laughed softly as she passed them, looking for the captain. Then she saw who she knew must be him - he was one of the few who actually looked weathered, experienced at sea. She looked impressed. "Cascade Swirl, reporting for duty," Cascade said, pushing back her hood. Her flowing mane cascaded down her back, and her cyan eyes twinkled with the excitement of going out to sea once more.

"Good afternoon, Captain. I'm here to...sign up." Ocean said, first chance she got just as a pretty yellow mare trotted into the bar.

Ocean watched Razor Sharp scribble her name onto the list before smiling and sitting down at the table. She noticed the two colts who both seemed to be showing off, one more then the other and she rolled her eyes as she began searching her bag for her journal.
She pulled it out a moment later and began scribbling some things down. If one were to look, she'd be writing in a very odd language that wasn't anything close to any language recognizable.

She would occasionally glance up at the group before quickly looking back down and writing again.

Shyla nodded, unsure of whether or not to correct his name error. "It's actually Shyla, sir, not Skyla," she said a little woodenly, feeling her emotions torn between servitude and freedom of her speech. She didn't want to correct him, but at the same time she needed to assert herself. Being too subservient was a little showing.

@@Gloomfury @

Two stallions appeared to be trying to show off in the corner, and Shyla felt the brush of irritated amusement she always got when ponies trying to act macho. They ended up sounding like really cheesy action films, and this was no exception. So far it was easy to tell that they had two idiots on their crew, so she ignored them and turned to some newer and seemingly more humble arrivals.

@ @

"Cascade Swirl? Seems you were destined to be here," said Shyla in an attempt to be jovial, and she forced a smile. These two seemed to be just as skeptical of the pair talking and she glanced at the shy looking mare in the corner, who continued to scribble away at something Shyla didn't want to really look at; she felt invasion of privacy was a great offense.

"It's...nice to meet you," she continued to the mare standing before her.
