I sadly don't and can't afford Mass Effect right now but I must say I LOVE the Dragon Age series. The amount of detail and voice acting is just beyond impressive to me. I will go back a few years and say second would be the Baulders Gate series because I also heard they were made by Bioware. I could be wrong and if I am then forget what I just said about Baulders Gate. ^_^

I really want to vote Mass Effect, but it was KOTOR that really got me into the whole RPG game franchise for me, so I have to vote KOTOR. Mass Effect I think is still one of their greatest franchises overall though.

Mass Effect 1. It may not be my favorite game ever, but it's definitely my favorite Bioware game. The first game, while less polished than Mass Effect 2 and 3, had something that its successors didn't. What is that, you might ask? The story. Mass Effect's Reapers were mysterious and menacing. You didn't know what they were, just that they were. You didn't know why they do what they do, just that they do. You exist because they allow it, and you will end because they demand it. That was it. That was what they were: cosmic horrors far beyond mortal understanding. ME2 and ME 3 destroyed that mystery. The Reapers were no longer threatening. No, they were just another alien race to be crushed under our boots.

And speaking of alien races, Mass Effect has some of the most interesting aliens of any recent game. The breadth of alien cultures was excellent. Each species had its own defining features, both good and bad. Asari, for example, are the diplomats. They can compromise with anything, but they're willing to fight if need be. At the same time, they're arrogant, complacent, and risk averse, and are arguably responsible for the technological and social stagnation of the rest of the galaxy. The rest of the universe is well thought out, too. It was a joy going through the codex just to learn about the Mass Effect universe. The history of the alien races, the pseudoscience behind mass effect technology, and the politics of the galaxy were simply fascinating. Bioware really put a lot of thought into their lore.

The feeling of discovery was unparalleled by any other Mass Effect. Who can forget "Uncharted Worlds" while taking Shepard across the stars? From the first time the intro played, you knew you were in for a ride. And what a ride it was! You, the hero of the human race, was to explore the galaxy and prove your species to the rest of the galaxy. You didn't just prove yourself, but you saved the galaxy--and you did it with style.

Mass Effect is one of the greatest games of the last decade, hands down.
