So is ponyville a town? City? Village?

Fluttershy herself refers to Ponyville as a village in Dragonshy, when trying to warn the townsfolk about the smoke. I think it's more akin to a town though, probably no more than 700-1,000 ponies.

On Wikipedia and MLP Wikia, it refers to Ponyville as a town in Equestria, so I think it would be safe to refer to it as a town. Plus, a village is too small for Ponyville, and a city is too big. So yeah, I say go with town.

I thought it was more of a town since it has a stable economy. (Merchants, Trades, etc) and other Leisure such as the spa or the bowling place. Not to mention they have a mayor which is the basic ruler of a town or city so I'd call it a town.

Fluttershy said it's a village but i think it's a town now. Ponyville looks even bigger than Appleloosa on the map. Well, maybe Equestria is smaller as you think and they dispay the tiniest settlements on the map. Ponyville could be still a big village. A village with many facilities. Hm, a village with a hospital? No, i think it's a town.

I'd agree that Ponyville is a Town.

And getting into the etymology, "ville" now means town or city, but originally (back in the Middle Ages) meant "farm".

And of course, Ponyville sprung up around a farm.

It would have to be a town, yes, personally I'm taking it as that was as most places as you travel by that end in 'Ville" are towns and well, Townsville in Australia. :P

But anyway, it would have to be a town yes, it doesn't have a massive amount of a population but it is quite numbered and it does have a lot of shops and an economy that villages really wouldn't.

Because of the story that Granny Smith told in "Family Appreciation Day", Ponyville started out as a mere village, only containing Sweet Apple Acres. As years passed, it grew into a town. It's not considered a city like Canterlot or Manehattan, for it does not have that upper class/urban look for a city.
