Never2muchpinkie 211 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 As part of a fanfic I suddenly got stumped when I tried to refer to it's type of living space, I don't think it's a city, because it's so rural, but is it ever stated what type of place it is? Huntress 94 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 I always thought it was a village because it's too small to be a city, and too me a town is bigger then Ponyville, but that's just me so Daisy Patch- http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/daisy-patch-r4850 Do ya wanna build a snowman!? Scootalove 10,689 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 I think that Ponyville is a town, because a village is more of a secluded area where you can only move around the village only. Ponyville is more spread out than secluded. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
n1029 229 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 It's a small town, akin to those scattered across the Appalachians in PA/WV. Population's probably no more than a few thousand.
K.K. Slider 391 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 Fluttershy herself refers to Ponyville as a village in Dragonshy, when trying to warn the townsfolk about the smoke. I think it's more akin to a town though, probably no more than 700-1,000 ponies.
Blue Moon 6,342 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 On Wikipedia and MLP Wikia, it refers to Ponyville as a town in Equestria, so I think it would be safe to refer to it as a town. Plus, a village is too small for Ponyville, and a city is too big. So yeah, I say go with town. The show follows a studious unicorn pony named Twilight Sparkle as her mentor Princess Celestia guides her to learn about friendship in the town of Ponyville. - Taken from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Wikipedia Ponyville is a town in Equestria, the main setting of the series My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, and home to the leading characters. - Taken from Ponyville, MLP Wikia Autumn Blue Moon Clear Skies Summer
Winona the Dog 1,984 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 I thought it was more of a town since it has a stable economy. (Merchants, Trades, etc) and other Leisure such as the spa or the bowling place. Not to mention they have a mayor which is the basic ruler of a town or city so I'd call it a town. ded 121 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 I'd say its a village because of Ponyville, but there's plenty of reasons why it'd be a town, most listed above and probably below >.>
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,873 November 8, 2013 Share November 8, 2013 It probably started out as a small village hence the name, but it grew overtime and is now a larger town. I don't know of many villages with fully functioning bowling alley's.
Gary S. 102 November 10, 2013 Share November 10, 2013 (edited) Fluttershy said it's a village but i think it's a town now. Ponyville looks even bigger than Appleloosa on the map. Well, maybe Equestria is smaller as you think and they dispay the tiniest settlements on the map. Ponyville could be still a big village. A village with many facilities. Hm, a village with a hospital? No, i think it's a town. Edited November 10, 2013 by Gary S.
Untitled Goose Q 5,138 November 10, 2013 Share November 10, 2013 I'd agree that Ponyville is a Town. And getting into the etymology, "ville" now means town or city, but originally (back in the Middle Ages) meant "farm". And of course, Ponyville sprung up around a farm. Sapphire Quill 1,186 November 10, 2013 Share November 10, 2013 It would have to be a town, yes, personally I'm taking it as that was as most places as you travel by that end in 'Ville" are towns and well, Townsville in Australia. But anyway, it would have to be a town yes, it doesn't have a massive amount of a population but it is quite numbered and it does have a lot of shops and an economy that villages really wouldn't. ✧ Made by Azura, Much Appreciated ✧

Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 November 10, 2013 Share November 10, 2013 Because of the story that Granny Smith told in "Family Appreciation Day", Ponyville started out as a mere village, only containing Sweet Apple Acres. As years passed, it grew into a town. It's not considered a city like Canterlot or Manehattan, for it does not have that upper class/urban look for a city. Ponyville implies that it's a village... and everypony seems to know everypony else... maybe it's a large village or a small town? .
