First off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I don't know why, but I just for some reason don't like when I see people drawing ponies as movie/TV show characters.  Especially when it's one of my favorite characters...  I dunno, I just don't know why.  I guess because deep down, I know the show IS meant for young girls and just really don't like the fact seeing say...  Thor or Loki being pony-ized.

I dunno, it might just be me and my strange jealousy with certain characters. xD What are your guys opinion?

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.

I don’t see a major problem with it. The show does have quite a distinctive style, after all, so seeing characters from a completely different type of story morphed into that style is, if nothing else, interesting. Not to mention any incongruencies between the source material and MLP often act as a catalyst for humorous situations to arise, so I especially favor it in the context of comics.

It just doesn't make sense to me. Sometimes, it really pisses me off!

For example, it pissed me off when Gordon Freeman, Captain Kirk and Spock were ponified

Lol I definitely agree with you here!

I don't  really mind it...sometimes it's done pretty good.

I don't like it when it's ponified(though mostly for male characters, I usually don't mind if it's a female)

On the other hand, I don't mind it when it's the MLP cast pretending to be the characters(for example Twilight as Harry Potter, RD as Indiana Jones, AJ as Capt. America, etc)

When it's an animated character I can usually find some kind of humor in it. Doesn't seem like too much of a stretch I guess. When it's a real person or something from a live-action movie, mileage varies. The MLP staff are obviously fair game for being ponified. Whatever roles they've had in other shows or movies, even live-action ones, are fine by me too. Start grabbing random things like Back to the Future, Star Wars, or whatever unrelated things you can think of and making pony versions, that's when I cease to care. Still doesn't bother me, even if it's not something I can appreciate.

I reckon have no strong feelings one way or the other.

Mainly just when people take awesome characters and turn them into ponies

That implies that you think ponies aren't awesome.

I for one LOVE seeing things ponified!!

But I've loved seeing alternate reality versions of characters LONG before ponies came along. Sonic versions, gender swap versions, robot versions, animal versions (I'm doing a series of that on my DevantArt, drawing comic characters as animals). Pony versions are no different. It's just another "what if this character was THIS"?

*shrug* Well hey, I don't really give a hoot. People has gots da freedoms to do what they want, why should I care? Some of the ponyfied celebrities or characters look cool, and I do like seeing what people can do with two well known things~

So all in all, I'm okay with it.

Not true.  I like them and think they are cool.  I do not, however, think it's cool seeing my favorite character Loki (or even Thor, Captain America, etc.) as a pony.  IMO it just strips him of his awesomeness.

And WHY does it strip them of their awesomeness?

I've got a not-so-typically "awesome" animal planned for Loki for my Comic Animals series.

But he will be no less awesome.

In your opinion.  But to me, if you make a male character who is awesome into a pony from a show truly meant for little girls...  I don't like it.  For example, I love to see characters as things like dragons as wolves because, well, they're more awesome animals and not from a show meant for girls.  As much as I love MLP, I know it is geared towards little girls.

Well see buddy, you're falling into that trap. The EXACT thing that Lauren Faust has tried so hard to get rid of.

That "girly" = "bad", or "boring", or "not awesome". I've seen plenty of cute things reinterpreted into "bad@$$" or "manly", and you don't see me cringing and going, "Ugh, it's so masculine..."

A pony is just an animal like any other animal. The way you draw it will determine what emotions you get from it.

Just look at Sombra:

King_Sombra_ID_S3E1.png

That is hardly what I'd call a "cute" or "pretty" design.

He's designed to look intimidating. And so that's what you get from him.

Still, it was originally meant for little girls, but whatever, I'm just explaining to you why I think that.  Also, I'm a girl myself.  And yes, ponies are animals, but I just mean MLP ponies.

Being a girl doesn't matter that much.

The "girly" = "stupid" and "bad" affects girls too.

That's why you get so many younger girls that act like pink is of the freaking devil despite it being just a color.

But you're right. You have the right to not enjoy ponification.

I love all of it. X3

Drawing characters as ponies? Heck, I draw my friends and family as ponies!

...if they say they want me to draw 'em as a pony, that is.

I, personally, love ponified things, and I don't really understand why people are so against it. If you're a true to the heart brony, then chances are, you think ponies are awesome. Why would turning a character into an pony strip them of awesomeness? I mean, there are so many cool elements to a ponified character. Simple things like their cutie mark or coat colour may display their personality in different ways. And don't get me started on already cool characters being turned into pegasi; they can fly, for hay's sake! Flying is awesome. C'mon, don't tell me you wouldn't want to see Thor with the ability to fly! Without his hammer, that is.

I myself have ponified some of my favorite characters from a certain video game which I enjoy. While I can see why someone would be bothered by it, I rather enjoy it, so why not, right? Ponies are inherently awesome, so ponifiying something that's already awesome tends to make it more awesome. :D
