Do the writers hate Spike?

I mean for crying out loud There isn't one Spike episode that does not make him look like a greedy jerk.

He is always the buttmonkey of the group. Always getting abused one way or another.

Is it because hes the only male in the mane cast?

Spike is a tool... and I mean that in the best possible way XD

 

Sure he might get mocked and pushed about but at the end of the day, he still gets to hang out with the 6 mares stallions would kill for XD.

 

i'd put up with being errand boy for that, especially if one of said mares I'd happen to be crushing on like mad. XD

How could you dis my Spikey Wikey! He has his flaws, but so do the mane 6. Rarity is over dramatic, Fluttershy is... We'll Fluttershy (she's still adorable though), Twilight's a perfectionist, Rainbow Dash is selfish, Pinkie Pie's insane, and Apple Jack is over competitive with Dash. So what if Spike is a little greedy? He IS a baby dragon.

Spike is always being complimented throughout the series by Twilight, and got an entire episode of compliments.

I don't think the writers hate him, he just isn't a main character - so doesn't get much attention from the writers.

It's usually when he acts as a supporting character do we see him shine the most. I don't remember what that episode is called. It's in season 1 with those diamond dogs. For a pipsqueak little dragon, he was giving those diamond dogs a hard time before they kidnapped Rarity. His judgments are also more sensible when the camera isn't on him and he also tends to be funnier.

 

Maybe Spike just isn't meant for the camera. Kind of a shame but that's what I'm getting off the top of my head. I think I remember hearing somewhere that Spike is the favorite character of Corey Powell who is one of the show's writers.

Some writers might not like Spike. Plus from what we've seen in the show, dragons tend to be greedy. I wouldn't expect Spike to be any different. Also I don't know if this is intended but since Spike is a baby dragon, really young kids tend to be fairly greedy. (Most of them anyways).

I don't think the writers treat spike differently, particularly negatively, because he's male and I especially don't think he's portrayed as a jerk. Sure he's got the whole dragon greed thing coming his way but as of right now it's not really that much problem, apart from that one episode...

Well he is greedy, that is a core part of the personality of dragons. He's not always portrayed in a negative light, either. He is clingy, sure, but he's usually shown to be quite loyal. I do not think the writers dislike Spike.

If this were the old days i would just blamed faust and moved on,

 

but yeah, she's long gone, and yet he's still well,   

I like spike because I choose to.

 

He could use more but everyt time they do more with him... it ends up sucking.

I used to never like Spike but he's had a few moments that made me really laugh hard.

My favorite's in "It's about Time" where Twilight says "I look ridiculous" and Spike replies "Yeah ya do!"

That blunt honesty and bratty boyishness in my opinion make for the best Spike moments.
