thoughts on the new youtube copyright rule

Really? Well, I know a lot of youtubers that just lost their job...

That sucks. It's a good thing I only go on there to watch MLP or else I'd be pissed.

But, I can only imagine TV shows aren't too far behind, even though they kind of already banned...

This copyright rule just throws the ''fair use'' rule right out of the window, it puts the Youtubers in a tough position when trying to post their videos and it's idiotic how Youtube can put the copyright rule on any video that they want.

until pretty soon we live in a Nazi controlled police state!!!!!!!!!!!

that's a bit of a stretch don't you think? removing the ability to upload game content to YouTube is pretty shit but Its silly to think that the UN would head towards Hitler's advance on socialism because of copyright.

A lot of Youtubers are just going to pack up and move to Dailymotion.

Then copyright owners will take Dailymotion to court and the exact same thing will play out there.  :/

Which is why it is so crucial that as I have said earlier the laws which lead to messes like this get changed which will of course not be easy but I am way too stubborn to just throw up my hands and accept things the way they are and think we would be far better off if there were more people that were that determined. That is not to say though that there aren't things Youtube aren't doing things that piss me off and that we should be angry at them for. Their "appeals" process for copyright claims is a total joke, they might as well not even have one at all and there are a lot of false copyright claims being made but they just seem to accept most of the claims without question. And there are several other things they are doing which are unrelated to the copyright issue which have really been a huge screw you to their viewers.

You guys are going about this the wrong way. Game content is allowed, it just can't have cutscenes or music. Currently some idiot in the US says if you do not enforce copyright on your copyrighted material then you lose the rights to your own content, so companies in the US are forced to act upon claims like this. YouTube isn't doing this to be a dick, they are doing this so they don't get shut down. If you decided to rely on YouTube for income well that is your fault for relying on a source that is not reliable. The video the OP posted is a bad video to post because it gets you guys all worked up, and he is not explaining what is actually happening. Instead of bitching at Google and YouTube, bitch at law enforcers and the people who create these copyright laws. Bitching at YouTube is not going to fix anything.

I watch a guy called Gopher on YouTube and he explained what was happening pretty well. I suggest you watch his video instead of AngryJoe's.

Hmm for once a video portraying Youtube from someone who isn't yellin' his ass off and actually gives some decent info. Given from what i've read so far and heard so far, The video you linked Emperor, actually makes sense. I watched the video from AngryJoe but after seein' this, i'm lookin' at things a tad differently cause at least "Gopher" has some details in it.

Hmm... okay. Actually, most video games companies sell their games because of these reviews on youtube, and most of the funny stuff are from video games, most of the videos on youtube are about video games.

I foreshadow Youtube's death.

I know... but still hes blaming the wrong people. Currently the copyright world is turning into a giant shit hole and it is screwing everyone including YouTube.

This mess is so big I cannot explain it in short. It is huge.

The biggest problem I have with this is that game publishers like Ubisoft, Square-Enix and EA have claimed that it's not them sending out the content claims but rather YouTube itself, so it's definitely not the publishers trying to protect their copyrights. They recognize that things like Let's Plays, gameplays and independent reviews help give their game greater exposure (and, therefore, greater revenue) and are less willing to take that content down from YouTube. Further, Google's response to this controversy is pretty empty.

We recently enabled Content ID scanning on channels identified as affiliates of [multichannel networks]. This has resulted in new copyright claims for some users, based on policies set by the relevant content owners. As ever, channel owners can easily dispute Content ID claims if they believe those claims are invalid.

The problem with this too is, as I said, content owners never agreed to anything like this and now Google is shutting down fair use content without the content owner's consent. Most of these MCNs are fully licensed to use game content in affiliated channels, which further makes this make no sense.

Basically, this isn't so much copyright law's fault as the users in these MCNs are licensed to use the game content, but rather Google screwing over their users. Again.

It is YouTube's automated system that is making these claims. Industries like Ubisoft and EA have no control over YouTube's servers, so YouTube is responsible for making copyright claims on their servers and sending it to industries like Ubisoft and EA. Expect things to get better, this was just something YouTube quickly pulled out of their ass to save their ass.

but rather Google screwing over their users. Again.

Don't play the blame game until you have the facts buddy. Google doesn't want to screw it's users over because there is no money in that. If they really wanted to screw the world and it's users Google would shut down all it's servers and push half the world into some form of chaos because Google is used by billions of people daily.

I Propose we make a new YouTube and we should call it BronyTube where this kind of copyright doesn't even exist then we shall make millions Muhahaha no but seriously the way i see it is that the only way to combat YouTube's copyright claims is to rival them with something else entirely.

After watchin' about 10 different videos from my favorite Youtubers on this whole Copyright BS, as said in this video:

Google is not the only one who started this whole mess in the first place. Multiple parties were and are involved with this problem.

Sadly from what i've heard, these ain't the only changes we'll have to endure. January is apparently bringin' more changes.
